The Maritime and Coastguard Agency says coastguards and lifeboats are sent out needlessly. In 2010 the agency recorded 1,500 flare incidents, of which 500 were believed to be false alarms caused by lanterns, while the CAA says they also pose danger to landing aircraft.

There was about 10 - 15 of us doing this the other day in rememberance of my moms uncle,but we didnt set them of in one go,anyway my mom got hers lighting but let go too soon and nearly burned my uncles head.Then it was really far up in the sky and the whole lantern went on fire and then dropped into a forest :/ it was kinda funny at the time cos anything new to my mom always goes wrong lol

@milhouse529 These are beautiful, but it's true, they fall EVERYWHERE, lol. I remember Chiang Mai the day after new year's and the remnant of the wire frames and unburnt cloth was all over the place. Not a big deal, though. For the most part people have it all cleaned up in a day or two.
