  • ZEE X SPECTRUM!? WTF

  • Had this on the spectrum 48k hehe

  • One of the things that sticks in my mind about this game was that you could hire the same performer multiple times to go into the same band. I had a band of four Freddie Mercuries that I had great success with.

  • Funny hearing the Speccie referred to as the "zee eks" Spectrum as opposed to "zed eks".

  • Did you watch my review before making this video? :D

  • Heh...love the british humor...

  • Love your review mate. This was my favourite amiga game, mostly because I could be a dirty bastard when naming my band and make me friends laugh : )

  • Had never heard of this game, thanks for introducing me to yet another piece of gaming history. And thanks for the shoutout!

  • as a kid on the ZX spectrum... half the fun as a 12 year old was that it let you create your own track names... then seeing a track you called:

"Rock the funky goat cheese hulu hoop"

get to #2 was pretty hilarious.

The game was one of the first "customizable" games in that sense. Alot of control.

  • Ive seen walkthroughs for RSAMYH on the net - always pick the names Clive suggests, always buy regular gifts, hold out for the best contract, get the best video director etc you can afford, publicity as often as poss and save the game beforehand so you can go back and try again if someone dies

  • Matt, did someone win the contest?

  • Rock star ate my house! LOL

  • 3:57 Bwhahahaha!

  • The title of the game is an intentional pun of an infamous front page headline in the mid 80's from the british daily tabloid newspaper The Sun, which read "Freddy Starr Ate My hamster"

The paper itself is also parodied in the game, as 'The Stun' in the publicity stunts. The sleazy tone of the 'The Stun' is identical to its real life counterpart.

Those ZX Spectrum graphics were actually dazzling by the systems typical standards! lol.

I've completed this game. No spoilers, but it's DIFFICULT!!

  • Wow, I'd love to see the end game sequence for a win. I've never been able to beat it.

  • Does it even have ending? i used to save like 1000 times as you die fast as hell lmfao...

  • @blacklily8 I guess you already seen it but here it is anyways /watch?v=GXNzaEAhzpc

Clive just cant catch a break.

  • now that's far out!! :)

    I call the clue MJ

  • This is one of my all-time favourite games. I had this for the C64 back in the day and found it incredibly detailed. I loved many games on the system but only one other title had the same affect on me for my beloved C64 and that was They Stole A Million.

It was a great feeling to discover you had moved up a place when that weekly chart came round! =oD

Great t-shirt. I still have Sandinista on vinyl.

  • They Stole a Million? That's one I haven't heard of before. I agree about the thrill of the charts--it does give you some idea of how real bands must react to those charts.

I don't own any vinyl, but have lots of Clash albums on CD. :)

  • I picked up a C64 again recently and if I get They Stole A Million at any point I will upload a gameplay/review video.

It's a strategy game in which you hire a gang of thieves, each with different talents, and plan the "perfect" robbery. Everything must be timed to perfection if the robbery is to succeed.

I remember a few times where I planned everything perfectly apart from the getaway driver who left just before everyone had finished their individual tasks! =oD

  • Another great review, I used to love this game back in my C64 days. I like your T-shirt too Matt :-)

  • Thanks, retro!

  • hey wow thanks man lol i didnt know my support ment that much man lol keep up the great work man that shout out supprised me i was like "wtf is that me?" lol. anyways keep up the great work.

  • Hehe. Well, I appreciate my commentators!

  • Cool T-shirt, loved the Clash. As for the puzzle, need more coffee to figure it out. "Do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry" By George its a boy!

  • This game looks like a much more advanced version of "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" for the C64 (K-TEL 1985). A lot of the game mechanics look similar.

  • Something endearing about it's low budget look, though the Amiga does look a lot better. Had never heard of this one. Thanks for sharing.

  • Another one of my fav games. I had this one on the Atari ST.

You should be careful of the Speccy boob picture. My Speccy Adult games Review got taken down for less than that mate ;o)

    Great video cheers ;o)

  • Really? You gotta be kidding. I did consider putting a black box around her nipples, but then thought--how lame would that be? Hehe. You'd have to pretty hard up to find that offensive.

  • Yeah right its stupid isnt it? Look at what I had to do to my Spectrum Adult Games video so that they would let me use it.

8bit porn is really hard core!?! ha ha ;o)

  • Ultravox! =)

    did i win?

  • No. :(

  • doh! Love the vids, look forward to them every week.

  • Did this had a PC version? I would like to check it. First game since I started watching your episodes than I have never heard about - this unknown titles are often the best or ... the beast !

Keep up the good work, waiting for more clues in the contest :)

  • I think there is a DOS version, but haven't personally played it. Stay tuned!

  • Great video Matt, really enjoying these.

    All hail retro games!

  • Thanks, Wildcatbeer.

  • I look forward to watching your vids every Saturday morning now dude. Chilling and drinking my coffee. Also- The Clash! Nice shirt.

  • Thanks, dwcai81. I love The Clash, coffee, and retrogames. :)

  • Played this game alot on my Atari ST 1040 when I was young.

These days I play it on my Amiga 1200 :-)

    Really like it.

  • I checked out some screenshots for the ST version. Is it pretty much identical? I was wondering if it had the same music. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • The music is the same as Amiga but I think its sounds better. Well I think the ST for the most part sounds better than the Amiga, except turrican :-)

I remember the game ask you if you got a ST or an STE. If you had STE the music would be enhanced. To what degree I dont know.

About the clues : Come to think of the magic system in dungeon master.

  • Interesting, I have both a STFM and a STE, so I will investigate those differences. I imagine that it uses the DMA for samples, with a bit of stereo for god measure.

You say that the ST sounds better than the Amiga? Most people would disagree, but I like your style!

Thanks for the vid, Matt! More British games please! ; )

  • And the music is really cool

  • Definitely! Thanks for watching.

  • nemas problems : ) You have good videos

  • It actually lookc fun

  • Amazing to think just how much fun a simplisitc looking game can be.

  • It really is. I've noticed several luminaries getting heavily into the simple games on Facebook, for instance. A game doesn't have to be super complicated to be fun and addictive.

  • Classic game, had this on the Amiga.

  • A game that Yanks Can't Wank.

  • I had this game on the ZX Spectrum back in the day! It was fun but did get a little boring later on. Nice video! :-) Ian.

  • Thanks, Ian!

  • Awsum review as usual.

There was Phil Collins and Rick Astley look-alike. I would've chose them. :D

  • I tried Bill Collins many times, but he costs so much I go broke before the first week. :)

  • You need to be very lucky to avoid getting bankrupt while hiring Collins, its like the hardest difficulty setting.

Why can't they make this kind of management games nowadays, it would be so awesome in many levels. Like: "massive multiplayer online band management game".

  • I somehow got the feeling you were a Zappa fan... Maybe it's the hair... Most longhairs like myself are Zappa fans!

    Great vid, dude!

  • Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • I am a big fan of so bad its good games ... lol

    Keep the videos coming

    Aberran

  • Hehe. Thanks for commenting!

  • Another great review!

Played this one quite a bit back in the day, was too young to really get anywhere though.

But it was a lot of fun :D

  • It's pretty tough to win. I can't even do it now. I'm not sure anybody has worked out the secret, if there is one. Thanks for commenting!

  • Haha I love your theme song. I want a ten minute version of it to rock out to.

  • Look for Trauma's "Sanxoid Remix." :)

  • I remember Larry reviewed this for GYCW (Games that Yanks Cant Wank). Nice to see you're giving this some love too. Good review....

  • Thanks, Greg. I saw Larry's review awhile back and enjoyed it.

  • wow, don't think I ever saw this.

  • It's worth checking out at least once, I think. :)

  • Its like a soccer management game without the soccer :)

  • I don't see any clues exect RA and XU... I have no idea what that means, maybe raxu is the guessing word.

  • Hehe, you will probably need more clues to figure it out. Keep an eye on future episodes! :)
