One of the things that sticks in my mind about this game was that you could hire the same performer multiple times to go into the same band. I had a band of four Freddie Mercuries that I had great success with.
Ive seen walkthroughs for RSAMYH on the net - always pick the names Clive suggests, always buy regular gifts, hold out for the best contract, get the best video director etc you can afford, publicity as often as poss and save the game beforehand so you can go back and try again if someone dies
The title of the game is an intentional pun of an infamous front page headline in the mid 80's from the british daily tabloid newspaper The Sun, which read "Freddy Starr Ate My hamster"
The paper itself is also parodied in the game, as 'The Stun' in the publicity stunts. The sleazy tone of the 'The Stun' is identical to its real life counterpart.
Those ZX Spectrum graphics were actually dazzling by the systems typical standards! lol.
I've completed this game. No spoilers, but it's DIFFICULT!!
This is one of my all-time favourite games. I had this for the C64 back in the day and found it incredibly detailed. I loved many games on the system but only one other title had the same affect on me for my beloved C64 and that was They Stole A Million.
It was a great feeling to discover you had moved up a place when that weekly chart came round! =oD
They Stole a Million? That's one I haven't heard of before. I agree about the thrill of the charts--it does give you some idea of how real bands must react to those charts.
I don't own any vinyl, but have lots of Clash albums on CD. :)
I picked up a C64 again recently and if I get They Stole A Million at any point I will upload a gameplay/review video.
It's a strategy game in which you hire a gang of thieves, each with different talents, and plan the "perfect" robbery. Everything must be timed to perfection if the robbery is to succeed.
I remember a few times where I planned everything perfectly apart from the getaway driver who left just before everyone had finished their individual tasks! =oD
hey wow thanks man lol i didnt know my support ment that much man lol keep up the great work man that shout out supprised me i was like "wtf is that me?" lol. anyways keep up the great work.
Cool T-shirt, loved the Clash. As for the puzzle, need more coffee to figure it out. "Do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry" By George its a boy!
Really? You gotta be kidding. I did consider putting a black box around her nipples, but then thought--how lame would that be? Hehe. You'd have to pretty hard up to find that offensive.
Did this had a PC version? I would like to check it. First game since I started watching your episodes than I have never heard about - this unknown titles are often the best or ... the beast !
Keep up the good work, waiting for more clues in the contest :)
I checked out some screenshots for the ST version. Is it pretty much identical? I was wondering if it had the same music. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Interesting, I have both a STFM and a STE, so I will investigate those differences. I imagine that it uses the DMA for samples, with a bit of stereo for god measure.
You say that the ST sounds better than the Amiga? Most people would disagree, but I like your style!
Thanks for the vid, Matt! More British games please! ; )
It really is. I've noticed several luminaries getting heavily into the simple games on Facebook, for instance. A game doesn't have to be super complicated to be fun and addictive.
You need to be very lucky to avoid getting bankrupt while hiring Collins, its like the hardest difficulty setting.
Why can't they make this kind of management games nowadays, it would be so awesome in many levels. Like: "massive multiplayer online band management game".
ZEE X SPECTRUM!? WTF

Funny hearing the Speccie referred to as the "zee eks" Spectrum as opposed to "zed eks".

Love your review mate. This was my favourite amiga game, mostly because I could be a dirty bastard when naming my band and make me friends laugh : )

Had never heard of this game, thanks for introducing me to yet another piece of gaming history. And thanks for the shoutout!
sacheen1712 1 year ago
as a kid on the ZX spectrum... half the fun as a 12 year old was that it let you create your own track names... then seeing a track you called:
"Rock the funky goat cheese hulu hoop"
get to #2 was pretty hilarious.
The game was one of the first "customizable" games in that sense. Alot of control.

This game looks like a much more advanced version of "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" for the C64 (K-TEL 1985). A lot of the game mechanics look similar.

Something endearing about it's low budget look, though the Amiga does look a lot better. Had never heard of this one. Thanks for sharing.

Another one of my fav games. I had this one on the Atari ST.
You should be careful of the Speccy boob picture. My Speccy Adult games Review got taken down for less than that mate ;o)

These days I play it on my Amiga 1200 :-)
Really like it.

I checked out some screenshots for the ST version. Is it pretty much identical? I was wondering if it had the same music. Thanks for watching and commenting!
blacklily8 2 years ago
The music is the same as Amiga but I think its sounds better. Well I think the ST for the most part sounds better than the Amiga, except turrican :-)
I remember the game ask you if you got a ST or an STE. If you had STE the music would be enhanced. To what degree I dont know.
About the clues : Come to think of the magic system in dungeon master.
