  • So do shelf clouds just create storms or something?? we dont get them in new zealand....

  • Did he died?

  • Great time lapse...amazing shelf cloud. Long!!

  • failstorm!!!

  • pretty cool cloud shape but look at the color of those dark-gray clouds behind the front ones when they're still far away they look even black showing that this is going to be a severe storm but when they come closer they whiten themselves and become white-gray.Nice lightnings as well

  • just magnificent got to love those kinda storms

  • I love storms! a pretty storm.

  • pass on o:53 and it looks like a huge tsunami o_O

  • it moved pretty fast though

  • poon dexter over there took up alot of room... oh well tht was awsome!

  • i live in winnipeg, canada and in summer 2007 i seen a cloud just like that like totally the same shape and color

  • did it start a tornado?

  • This is a very big storm!!i have never see something like that in my life!!just say woow

    this is a fabulous Thunderstorm??

  • I might saw on at night

  • this is not a tornado funnel

  • Wow...That's a pretty darn good storm, very impressive :)

  • insane

  • OMG that cloud is huge!

  • whats a shelf cloud, i heard of cumulonimbus, and the anvil shape supercells thar spawn tornadoes, but i,m at a loss on this one. someone school me direct reply

  • Okie dokie; a shelf cloud is a cloud that hangs out with the big guy like best buds and is always lighter then the columbius cloud and always above; both in them in some cases are darker and lower the the big guy so thats kinda rare. im 9. ^^

  • during a storm common in the outflow phase a large mass of cold air begins to rush out of the storm ( the storms upperlevel collapsing) and sends all that high up cold air rushing down and as it spreads the warm air infront of the adnvancing cold mass is picked up like shaving ice with a blade think the blade is cold air the ice is warm air haha weired but i think it gets the picture across

  • oh and one more thing its the warm air beeing picked up that makes it have this dramativc appearance thats the wartm air mass( the clouds) rising up ahead of the cold air

  • In The Middle Of The Us And South There Are So Many T-Storms (Sever Of Course)

    Facts:

1: Lighting Can Strike You From 10 Miles Away So When THat SHelf GOt Near his house i wouldve ran lik the wind

    2:Pretty Low Clouds Way Dangerous

  • you no all tht black stuff is going to be the badest strom rain wind even a tornado u migth ever seen behind tht scary but nice shelf cloud

  • hammerogod is correct in the fact that this is absolutely terrific footage (kudos Mottster); however, hammerogod is very wrong in calling this a "moderately well defined wall cloud." This is simply a beatiful example of an outflow boundary. The rain cooled downdraft moves out ahead of the storm and acts as a mini cold front. These outflow boundaries are very distinct on radar and as you can see, in the field.

  • After viewing the footage several more times I am uncertain as to the nature of the lowering to the left of the screen.

I don't see any evidence of rotation so it probably is just some pre-frontal skud rather than a weakly defined wall cloud.

  • WEATHERES A WAY OF LIFE

  • My Cunting God!!

That Would Of Been The Most Insane Storm!!!

  • I like storms. It was a very beautiful shelf cloud video.

    GRAET

  • A moderately well defined Wall Cloud and good inflow.

That came reasonably close to being a Tornadic storm.

    Terrific footage.

  • not to sound negative or anything but when you have clouds that dark you put your camera on a tripod and get your ass inside

  • thats looks like the day after tomorrow in the movie but not even i guess

  • Thats kinda scary.

  • I love storms.. looks like you have a good one there rolling in!!

  • sweet ... sky all black behind the wall :p

shame that there's no sound though.

(I'll try to make some thunderstorm videos this summer with sound)

  • It's creepy how it just comes closer... and closer.

I'm going storm chasing in ontario this july so wish me luck.

  • that was very sweet! :-)

  • very similar looking to a squall line I got just before Hurricane Charley in 2004.

  • This looks very impressive, moreso when you fast forward through the apprach of the storm.

  • lol thats cool

  • Wow...That's a pretty darn good storm.

  • looks like a pretty decent storm that came in

  • There was quite a bit of lightning and wind. This storm was starting to bow out as it was crossing my location. Higher wind gusts were reported just east of my location (Greenfield, IN).
