Yeah but the student should bong the moment lam laps him, or break the connection. Only low level people will offer you their other hand while you lap them, and then give you the chance to 'fly' him. Its a nice move and would work more in the street than in chi sau. I'm just saying this is not really a high level chi sau move, more a street or free fighting drill to develop lap power. Also the guy just gives everything up to lam immediately, without offering his structure, without rooting.
@bknives Isn't that the point of wing chun though, to keep things basic and simple? Do you think it's possible he didn't explore it because he wanted to to keep some stuff off the videos and, maybe encourage practitioners to actually train with him extensively? Just a thought.
@jasma98 'Some' stuff? He put as much stuff as he possibly could into the video and that wasn't even a drop of his knowledge. Anyone with a real understanding of kung fu would need decades to impart that knowledge. I don't think his intention was to get people to train with him either. I think he's just showing a basic move.
This is from the Po Pai DVD, but it is actually the pulling hands exercise. Pulling hands is a chance action in the Gary Lam system which means its used when the "chance" presents itself.
@senektheripper I Train under Grandmaster Cheung, and i've asked about Sifu Gary Lam, he said his very good at Wing Chun, is he right or was just saying it to be nice ?.
@senektheripper You dont know that but, anyway sounds awesome man how long have you been training with him ?.
I train with Grandmaster Cheung as i said but his a really nice person his always there also and has so many awesome ideas and Theories which i use to train and to fight against other fighters.
But i wanted to know did Gary Lam do tornaments and stuff, and if he actually has any stance, cause it seems like he doesnt ?
@senektheripper Oh lol awesome, i really like his style of Wing chun, it looks good and naturall. William Cheung, not sure who the other guy is. It's hard to talk to alot of guys who study Wing Chun alot of them just keep putting my teacher down. But you seem pretty cool. Oh and btw can you tell me about Gary Lam's Tornuments.
@8bobthebuilder fuck,i would have 2 ask him when i se him nxt week.i know a thing or 2 bout the tournaments he was in but not the name of em or the yr he was in them
lol, honestly, this isn't a secret. If you are into fighting at all, this SHOULD come to you as second nature. Very basic stuff, this is. Still, I mean no disrespect towards this master.
When he talks about the arm breaking method, if you trip the guy while keeping that lock on him, then the momentum of his fall will actually snap his elbow. That's what my sifu taught me, and I'm sure Sifu Lam knows as well, great vid!
I live in downtown Los Angeles and am interested in learning some Wing Chun. I live close to Hawkins Cheung, Eric Oram, and Gary Lams training facilities. Im going to check them all out but just wanted to know some opinions on each of them. So let me know what you guys think. Thanks.
definitely Gary Lam. It is proper WSL VT, and WSL trained him for freefights. Quite effective stuff. Hawkins Cheung, no matter what he said about being in lots of beimo and being a student of Ip Man, isn't very great.
sifu lams videos are cool you learn something new! the matteress are fantastic though!! "you use bui then you catch the arm and he fry away into the matteress" "bad boy go to jail"
Sifu Lam's videos seem 5 or 10 times better than the other Wing Chun videos on you tube...imagine using this technique to throw the enemy in to a wall, a car, parking meter, window etc...
Err....I think sifu Lam needs to get a 'sleep by number' mattress for students of different sizes so they can be tossed into the mattress comfortably! =)
i totally love gary lam's slam-against-mattresses :)

Now, if that was a real opponent and the mattress was actually a brick wall, it would be game over in seconds!

@bknives I think he is teaching street techniques not general class chi sao?
jasma98 10 months ago
@jasma98 either way, the counter is not explored, not in the clip here or on the dvd, which I own. It's just a very basic move.

I like Gary Lam, but who make this confusion?
This what he is showing us, are lap sao,
not po pai.
po pai is pushing someone away with both hands, not
pulling somenones arm - or what ever...
