  • Is there any audio of four voices singing this?

  • @applesauc3 Sure is, search "Four Voices AIC Show 2003"

  • Simon, I know there was a big discussion on this on the Zing video, but the baritone's Ab on "all" sounds "flat" to me. I don't mean to say you're pitch is falling, but I'm wondering if that's intentional or not.

  • what a damn high note, wish I could do that.

  • gotta hurt!

  • Beast mode engaged. Holy shit.

  • Love it when they bring it together at the end. That is beautiful:)

  • That C is sweet

  • Everything recommended for me is 2 years old!

    Awesome!

  • "Now it's time to start the show TONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT."

  • @SJRogers tonight, we'll sing for you toooooooooooooooooniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, ALL NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT

  • God Damn......

  • wow, that was an impressive

    presentation of almost perfect harmony...

    thx for sharing

    ..of course "i like"

  • I know you have to be rather loud to hit a high C in that voice, but it seems it was mixed a little bit too loud. It overpowered the other parts. Heck, it overpowered itself when singing before that.

That said: Wow. That's an amazing lack ot tension on such a high note. And it's not because you were blending it with falsetto. In fact, I suspect you that you do not normally have a C, but trained to get it. And that is EFFING AWESOME.

  • damn nick what note is that? top B? i dont know but damn lol

  • @matini90 no its a C

  • NICK! I just stumbled across this. How are you dude? That was awesome! - Hamish

  • @NZBode Hey man! hows it going? Just finishing up with uni thank god, how bout you? Still playing bass somewhere and deeply involved in music? If you're still in auckland, have to have a sing sometime =)

    - Nick

  • WOAH!

  • Hi,

    Nice job on this one!

Can you help me finding this arrangement? I'd like to know the exact title or webshop I can get it. I hope you can help me.

    Regards from the Netherlands,

    JG

  • sounded natural to me, im sure he cant do it for more than a few belts, but it was awesome nonetheless

  • awesome

  • great job guys. awsome

  • I am in awe of this. Nick's voice starts to sound something other than human after holding the note for so long. Simply incredible.

  • The father of all collabs!

  • I like how that guy thinks the post was stretched. Both Nick and Simon are phenomenal singers. A high C in head voice? Damn! Great job.

  • thats actually full voice =P

    its approaching the startosphere

  • OMG!!! Nick, be careful not to ruin your voice doing that! Simon, as always, you rock!!!

  • That was awesome guys....I love your posts!

  • Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about...

  • It's REALLY framey compared to the rest.

  • it IS stretched..

  • Sure... You would know...

  • Funniest response at least ever. Epic win Finey.

  • wow im in love with Nick he gave me goosbumps all the way down my spine no lie that was amazing

  • holy jeebus. amazing lol.... i swear i was holding my breath while he hit that note... bravo fellas :)

  • lol

i cant even hold a high C in head voice for 21 seconds

    this is unworldly

  • @sephiroth3782

Technically, no adult male can (castratos not included) lots of people just don't classify a difference between head and chest. the usual barrier is just drawn between head/chest and falsetto

  • too bad they stretched it

  • Sweet mother of Jesus, lung capacity. I'm out of breath just listening to it.

    Bravo, fellas. Bravo.

  • haha nick looks kinda "empty" after that high C. great work guys

  • Do yall know yall are this badasss?? yall are so talented that my speakers are telling me to play that again

  • Nick, your voice is like wow. The range and control of Kenny Loggins and the power of Steve Perry. You are very gifted and should sing forever. I love it when you and Finneylee sing together.

  • nicks voice makes me want to cry in this tag... in a good way!! :)

  • That overtone is waaay up there.

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

  • Great

  • I remember when I could hit such high notes when I was younger. Man you guys sound awesome.

  • Schmokin' hot! Great job! What vid edit software do you use and do you have any other equip that helps you place the mic or do you just hold it wherever naturally. I noticed you had it closer to your mouth for the parts that didn't have to drive as hard.

  • that overtone is intense!!!!

  • is that an over tone i hear way up there????

  • haha yep. a super duper high C overtone.

  • i hear something more like a g.....

  • well, there's many more than just one overtone haha..i was just picking out the highest one i heard.

  • exactly!

  • OMG, wunderfull, brilliant voice

  • ridiculous high c

  • fucking amazing!

  • that tag isn't even legal in most states...lol

    WOW

  • A really cool overtone at the end...sounds soprano-ish. What a pair of voices.

  • this is the best tag on youtube.......

  • Wow... nice high C. i'm impressed.

  • Those high tags.... goodness man!!! brilliant hanger again!!!

  • to nighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhht

  • :D great !!!!

  • deam!!

  • Oh Lawdy!!! DAYUM!!!!!!

  • Dies... Oh my gawd dude... i WISH that my tags were anywhere NEAR this good......

Fantastic job, and I can't wait to see more!

  • He almost passed out anyways.

  • Do you might have the sheet for the SONG?

  • Are you using an Audio Technica 2500 Dual Head microphone?

  • Every time I watch this I feel like I'm hurting him... it makes me feel bad.

  • hahah, that's a funny way of putting it. makes sense though lol

  • watching him sing that high c makes me tired haha. i get puffed just watching it.

  • LMFAO AT Corollaboi

I THOUGHT I BE DA ONLY PERSON TO GET LIKE THAT

    LOL

  • lol im impressed =D

  • Damn I'm moist. O=-)

  • 'Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...iiiiiiight' -deep breath-

    Lol

    Absolutely brilliant =D

  • this..........is..........awesome.

  • The High C is too hot

  • WHAT THE FUCK high C for 21 seconds? This is FUCKING INSANE xx

  • dude these guys are masters at wot they do i bet you they fiddled wid tha note...any money....

  • Well, if we ever meet, i'll be happy to post a C for you. And if we dont meet, there's a video of me posting a C under my favourites. I recommend turning down the volume before listening, its off a cellphone so sound is a lot louder. =)

  • yer dude....done well to hold it tha long though...check out my vid i`m doin 3 octaves..well just over, full voice!!

  • wow

  • Sorry if I spelled Lester's last name incorrectly.

  • ...What?!

That tenor part is ridiculous. And Nick holds it like a champ. Props, man.

  • Great overtones in this one

  • no matter how awesome that sounded, i do refuse to believe that you are capable of hitting and sustaining both this high C, and also the low C-sharp in the way you look tonight. i suspect a bit of computer help, if not with hitting the note, then sustaining it, because that would be an absolutely godlike range for anybody. nevertheless, awesome. i was gonna do exactly this kind of thing myself, then i saw your videos and got discouraged, because ppl will think im biting off you, but i wasn't!

  • Hmm. I normally can't sing below an F sharp, but one morning after an extremely heavy night of drink I woke up with a horrible sore throat and found my voice had dropped and I could sing a low D. And it was back to normal the next day, so I think it's possible!

  • Have you ever listened to Lester Recter from 3 Voices? He can hit that note also, so, therefore, I would have to respectfully disagree that Nick has help from the computer. GREAT JOB Superman Nick Brown!! I only wish I could do that... :(

  • Hey MasterHobytla. Firstly i thank you for saying that this sounded awesome =) as for whether i can hit the notes; for the low Db on the video response, i was insanely drunk, sick and tired, that bass part was recorded at 3am, i cannot hit anywhere near that low everyday. As for the high C, different story. Yes i can hit, and sustain that note pretty much when ever. there is a live version of it on my user under my favourites. i highly recommend turning down the volume before listening.

  • secondly, please, dont be discouraged about posting videos of you singing. Nearly all multi trackers scroll over every one elses videos giving us advice on how to sing better, what to improve on etc, as well as just to listen to the music. its fantastic for personal development, I've found it invaluable. especially finding a singer like Simon (fineyleee) a musical theory nut, and a brilliant singer who's advice is always fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • It's actually not unheard of at all among trained singers to have a big range. Since he's singing so high AND in full voice, it's extremely doable to be able to hold that puppy for that length. Believe it or not, when a soprano gets super duper high, the vibrations of the frequency itself are so intense that it acts as a breathing mechanism for them, making it possible to sing a note virtually forever for them, because they pretty much don't have to breathe.

Higher singing -> less air needed.

  • If you want the spots for the tag, semd me an email. It's my chart.

  • *&!@#@$^!!!!

  • that was badass.

    you guys are amazing.

  • god.

    damn.

  • This one was even trickier! When the lead sang "We'll sing for you tonight, on its own, it was really difficult to tell if that was the bari part or the lead, because the lead had been switching from E natural to F, so to go down a whole step would have just been predictable. But I listened closely and realized it was the lead who goes cross voicing with the tenor.

    But it was fun!

  • LMAO!!!....that is ridiculous.I'm pretty sure that one of my own nuts just popped from hearing that.

Thanks for all of the awesome recordings

  • holy mother of gawd o.O

    thats awesome

  • oh my freakin goodness... That almost made me cry. haha

  • How do you hit that!!? IN FULL VOICE!!

  • I have a suggestion... About another song, haha.

Have you ever considered Let's Live It Up? Your voice would be AWESOME for that tenor part, and any other part, really.

If I had a mic, I'd ask if you wanted some help, but unfortunately, I don't haha. But if you ever did, I could do anything but bass comfortably.

  • That baritone part is ridiculous :)

  • omg.

    high C

that note always aludes me T_T. I can probably get an b flat MAYBE if i've been singing all day XD. but a C, shiit dude.

  • Which part is singing the high E?

Since the tenor is already busy with that amazing C, I'm assuming it's the baritone.

    You guys rock!!!

  • Its actually the lead singing the E, Finey nailed that part =)

  • Shit... You guys are awesome haha

  • Bottom left.

    It's nuts!

  • Good God. :-p And Finey, is that a old EV mic that you're using there?

  • I still need to get an answer on why "Nick" is moving in slow-motion in the end... anybody? I believe there's some time stretching done here so don't get to impressed....

Otherwise this is fricking awsome and you should really be proud.

  • He isn't moving in slowmotion, he's just moving slowly.

  • If you dont believe that i can do it theres a video of it live. Its TERRIBLE quality as its done on a cell phone video. Its under my favourites on my user page that one of my mates posted called Nick the try hard or something like that lol. Also its really really loud so turn down your volume before watching. And i'm not moving slow motion i promise you. Other than that, thanks a lot for you comments, I'm very proud =D

  • Hey Nibla, I believe that the reason that it looks like he is moving in slow motion is due to the lighting and his distance from the camera and how those two aspects effect each other. Some web cams don't pickup movement clearly when there is a large movement from a distance - meaning you pretty much need to be right in front of it for it to look 33fps. So if Nick was more than several feet away from the camera (which he is) that would account for the choppy/slow mo look. Hope this helps!

  • Holy Jesus. I'm jealous.

  • That high C is awesome - not far from Four Voices.

Notice he needed to stand up for that one.

In live performance, I could sing it passably, but I would breathe on the 'to' of to-night. Not with that kind of laser-beam strength, though...

You two make a great quartet, though. And ain't technology great? Y'all are only what, 10,000 miles away from each other?

  • You two need to keep doing this... If you don't want to use the other guys that's fine... but you two rock!

  • freakin awsome man

  • Who's been giving Nick rubbish for his high-singing? Wasn't the smoothest finish to the C, but I challenge anyone to sing a High C and hold it for that long! This one is great!

  • NICK IS THE MAN

  • I think that was the most spectacular note I've ever heard sang in my life.

  • those chords rung so hard me fillings were rattling

  • those chords rung so hard me fillings were rattling

  • wow...a WHOLE lot of people have made a gigantic deal of nothing on this video lol.

  • You sing a full voice high C for that long and see if you call it nothing. ^_^

    -Radioplaya

  • did you read all of the arguments??

  • Ahh. You were refering to the vabrato thing. I thought you meant something else

    Sorry sir

    -Radioplaya

  • Okay,

    as a tenor...

    I must say...

    God damn...

Please, please send me that arangement....

  • Is there ever any vabrato in any of these.. thaty are all good.. and you both have incredible range... but a little vabrato like at the end of the long notes would be awesome... also... full voice high C very impressive...

  • I hate vibrato =/

  • actually, it would be stylistically horribly incorrect to include vibrato. In barbershop music, vibrato is reserved for slight embellishment by a lead and that's it. Barbershop is all about ringing the chords, and vibrato gets in the way of that.

  • For the chords to ring, they have to be PERFECTLY in tune to the actual harmonic pitches (which cannot be played on a keyboard or other fixed-tuning instrument, and require special tuning instructions to be included in MIDI files). Vibrato would destroy that.

  • Jim DeBusman wrote an article in the Harmonizer that is actually supportive of a little vibrato in some quartet singing, and he knows his stuff pretty well, to say the least. It's interesting - check it out. Agreed, most of the vibrato is left to the lead at the ends of phrases, and that's how it should be; for most quartets, if they were to try and add vibrato, they would ruin the sound. However, if it's done correctly it can be a useful tool.

  • (that last post was in response to COMALiteJ and rarchnick - my computer is dumb.)

  • Not your computer's fault. YouTube text comment indentation doesn't work like it should.

Anyway, yes, a SMALL amount ON THE PART OF THE MELODY SINGER ONLY (not necessarily the Lead, but WHOEVER has the Melody at that point in the song), delayed so that it occurs only on sustained notes, both helps the audience know who has the melody, and also clarifies the vowel sounds. It does sacrifice some chord-ringing, though, but the overall effect can be an improvement or worthy sacrifice.

  • although the high C is remarkable...imagine a normal baritone singing this! His second to last note is a friggin G#! Then come down only a semitone to G! I know some leads who cant do that!

  • Ya well then there's the fact that we took this tag up a whole step. So the baritone never goes higher than F# (if the quartet singing chooses to let the bari on that part... a bari/lead switch isn't impossible)...

  • WOW... that is the most impressive freaking thing....

A HIGH C..... 21 seconds.... full voice... WOW

  • holy shit!!! i love to listen to the tags that you guys put up. but this one, really dropped my jaw. My girlfriend walked in after hearing nick crush that C for the first time... her usual response is, "was that good?" and i said,"he just did that in a fuckin head voice!" absolutely great control.

  • you mean chest voice? =)

  • shit, kan inte din polare gå med i nån kvartett!! han har balls of steel :)

  • jo han e med i kvartetter vad jag vet... han e dock från nya zeeland =)

  • I think i got the giff of this conversation even though i dont understand i think its funny.

if not dont meen to offend.

  • haha, i saw balls of steel, and that's all i needed to know. so true.

  • hmm...that was supposed to reply to Barbershopraz's comment.

  • ...see....that's exactly what I'm talkin about man... AMAZING! Keep em coming duders! I love em all!

  • ....you have hacks.

how do you hold a chest voice high C for 21 seconds man!?

    seriously. =]

  • really. lol.

  • really. lol.

  • really. lol.

  • ha, he said hacks.

  • Nice post man! My quartet and I used to sing that tag for fun with me on the post, but it wasn't nearly that clear. Props!

  • i think you guys are ahmazing. keep it up!!!!=]

  • damn u can hold a note

    awesome

  • well, dispite what all these other people have said, I think that you are brillient. I just wish that there was more barbershop in britain.

  • same lol

  • To come to the defense of everyone who needs defending, barbershop is a HOBBY! It's for fun. Let these guys have fun and quit burning them for it. So what if a high C full voice is executed without proper technique. Who gives a f@ck?! It's in poor taste to come to Finey's site and try to rip him and Nick apart. Either make your own version of the same tag so you can show us all what "proper technique" is or drop it. Oh, and Gary Lewis has had surgery on his throat before. How does he sound now?

  • the fact is everyone that they did a great job with this tag. And yes, they do push their voices a little too much here. But I still think they are doing this stuff ebtter than almost anyone who is commenting on Finneylees videos.

  • I'm honored. Looks like SHL joined youtube Wednesday simply to reply to my comment!

And Nick, stop singing EVERY SONG YOU EVER SING on a high C at full voice only. You'll wear out your voice. :)

Everyone's overreacting (including me). If you don't like the sound or technique he uses, you don't need to warn him of his impending laryngectomy. Duh, if you stress yourself, you won't be able to sing as high or as long all the time. But I doubt Nick's walking around belting out B's & C's all day.

  • This is like the only time Nick ever posts such a high note. After this recording, Nick re-recorded the sunshine tag post for my album, and that's a Bflat. He did it much more relaxed and correct, and yet he managed to maintain alot of overtones in the voice.

This was a one-timer, simply to demonstrate our capabilities. He isn't ruining anything in his throat with one post.

  • haha an album? You make me want to throw up.

  • Yeah sure i do. I mean, considering that you're so much of a better singer yourself, I believe you must have difficulties listening to poor music like this. Also, you're 20 years old and almost passed puberty, so jealousy cannot be an issue here.

By the way, which one of the three assholes in your car video is you?

  • woah woah woah! I guess I should have seen the profile I was on when I posted those posts from bobcampagna. He's my roommate and I was on his comp lookin at these vids. Yes, of course he has no singing technique. Don't go bashing on him either. He has passed puberty and he is not jealous.

BTW I'll be lookin for you in Nashville and seeing you put that high Eb in chest voice!

  • Well, since it was you writing, I guess the only bashing that was turned to him was his singing (but obviously he knows that he ain't a singer). Anyway, I still don't think a comment like that is appropriate. Yes, I meant the "throw up" one...

  • yeah i guess ur right and I apologize. I just don't think your idea of an album full of tags is appropriate. It's not genuine at all. Listening to an album of barbershop songs should be the only legit thing. I don't want to have to skip through 50 different, 30 second skits to hear tags of just you and your friend.
