  • Ya, I felt like I was going to spit sand just listening to 1:00. You get through this super fast so you might have a few seconds left over for a sip of water here and there me thinks. Getting all dry and raspy sounds like they got a gun to your head which is what it would take to get me to even think about doing a tut on the Blender UI.

Thanks a ton for this. I suppose making the UI as unconventional as possible makes it easier to remember so everything in Blender is obscure at best.

    yaaaaaay!

  • When i parent the model to the armature, it says: Loop in Parents

    What should i do? >_<

  • when i puch ctr - p to envalope it, all thats there is envolope with weight, automatic weight and with empty groups

  • Oh! What files do these finished model's run as??

Would they be .pmd files by any chance of luck??

  • most of these shortcuts don't work for me :(

  • @michaeljolley337 are you working on PC or in portable?

when you have to press a number, it has to be from the numpad (sorry for bad english)

  • i have a problem when i try to parent the spin to the pelvus it wont connet the right way plz i need help fixing this problem.

  • Ah... I put it on Creat from Bone Heat... but then it says... Failed to find solution for one or more bones... what does it means?...

  • Well.... Make Parent To: Armature... ok..

Now... Loop In Parents... what now? O.o

  • When I parent a bone to another bone the dotted line goes to the wrong end of the bone...

  • @TheGeeCat hey did you ever fix your problem??? because im haveing the same problem and i need help but no one is giving me any advice on how to fix this problem.

  • Only issue I have is the parenting, I go to select the pelvis armature and it wont let me lol. i've tried using 2.49, 2.56 and 2.57 and none would let me.

  • @Sekaidein same here

  • where did you get the human mesh from ?

  • I have trouble binding the mesh to the armature - it says something along the lines of "Error Bone Weight Heat: could not find a solution for One or More Bones". I've been doing the 'weight paint' of the mesh, but it REALLY sucks and takes too much time. Any advice?

  • @StephenWebb1980 I made a video on this. Check out my video on overcoming Blender rigging problems.

  • @bugzilla2001 Unfortunately nothing in the videos solved the issue. I have followed everything to a 'T' numerous times. My guess is that since it is a model imported from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, (needed a special script to import) the Bone Heat rig method doesn't work. I've tried everything - if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks.

  • @StephenWebb1980 means you killed your human

  • Could you remake this in 2.5? I'm having issues with parenting. Thanks!

  • Thanks It was very help me

  • for anyone who can help where would i find the deform button for the armature in blender 2.53 and above

  • I get the "failed to find solution for one or more bones" error, help?

  • how can i go into edit mode and still be able to select other things? im stuck here so i cant do anything...

  • im angry right now when i try to parent the bone rig to the character it says error, loop in parent, !!

  • @sodium44 OK, you obviously have not rigged things correctly. Somehow, you are trying to parent a bone to itself. Or, you are trying to parent a bone from another Armature. I don't know how you did it, but I suggest starting over from scratch.

  • @bugzilla2001 i started over from scratch and tried it but the same error occured :/

  • @sodium44 You are not following the tutorial. I can't think of a way this error can occur if you are following the tutorial correctly. Watch it from the beginning and remember that it was created with Blender 2.4. Blender 2.5 has changed where some of the buttons are, but the basic concepts are the same.

  • @bugzilla2001 but can the problem occur from that my model isnt just one big mesh, its many small meshes, you know, its a war of the worlds tripod model, all the legs, tentacles cannons and stuff are different meshes that are ligned up close to each other . can that be the probem that the model isnt just one big mesh? and if so how do i make many meshes into one??thanks.

  • @sodium44 its a simple fix,just hit ALT P then try it again :)

  • @sodium44 i have the same problem and im so fucking annoyed right now... it doesn't come up with the options to parent "keep offset" just says object.........

  • @sodium44 That is because you are trying to parent a bone to itself. Select the child, then the parent, then ctrl+p

  • @bugzilla2001 hello, and thank you for this amazing tutorial, but i have a problem,, i have new blender and i cant find -KeepOffset- option :/

    can you help me please?

  • when i try to parent my lrg bones to the pelvis bone im not able to select the pelvis bone, and i can have all the bones in edit mode at the same time. HELP!

  • @sodium44 did you properly duplicate the bones in EDIT mode at the beginning? If you do it in object mode things won't work. Be very attentive in which mode you work when creating bones.

  • are the macros on the latest version the same as this version?

  • see answer to my question about the version here the latest version takes some getting used to great video though just have to apply to different version i guess

  • great tutorial so far, its helping a lot. like sgntslaugh, i have the latest version but i'm getting though this just fine. everything is just in a different spot.

  • Another question; When I went to parent the mesh to the skeleton, I clicked Armature, then Bone Heat and it told me there were errors: "failed to find solution for one or more bones. " And then, when I try to rotate any part, some areas stretched from where the original pose was to where I moved it to. How do I fix this?

  • When I am in editing mode, I can only click on one of the legs, I can't select the other and the pelvis bone. How do I fix this?

  • Comment removed

  • @neji000009 I have the same exact problem. As soon as i click "Create from bone heat"

  • im trying to make the mouth of a dino and i make the bones...i parent then when i move the bones in pose mode they move whe model so its all messed up and not like a mouth

  • every time i try to bind the mesh to the armature, I See This Error: "Modifier is Disabled Or returned Error, Skipping Apply" What should i do?

  • This is causing some trouble for me, I am using a mirrored model I just made, I parented the armature to the mesh, but when I then try to move the left arm for example, the other arm does the same thing. When I try to move the right arm, nothing happens?? Really weird, first time it happens to me, could you help me out?

  • @Spaetten1 Did you "collapse" the model? You have to press the "Make Real" button on the Modifiers panel.

  • @bugzilla2001 thank you sooooooooo much I had the same predicament

  • @Spaetten1 Try to unparent the armature from the mesh, Apply the mirror modifier then re-parent the armature! that should work ;)

  • @Spaetten1 or if u use 2.5 u have to click Apply in the mirror modifier

  • when i press Ctrl P and then click offset its says error

  • how is it an intro if there are 2 parts? lolz

  • WOW u told people how to rotate the view on the second part of the tuturial lol fail

  • my does not work

  • mine just doesnt parent :(

  • Thank you for such wonderful tutorials, I had a question if you could please help out,

I am trying to make parent after selecting the two bones in the leg (in edit mode) when I try to shift right click and select the pelvis bone I am uable to select it, why is that

    ?

  • ur blender is waaay different to mine idk why but i cant do some of the things u do and ive got the latest version

  • @sgntslaugh73r Sounds like you have Blender 2.5. That version has a very different look to it. This tutorial was created in 2.48 and you can still download that version.

  • @bugzilla2001 yeh its alot more complicated i probably should stick with the basic version

  • @bugzilla2001 Actually2.49 IS way different than 2.48 i guess, because I have 2.49 and mine is diferent too. What system are you running on?

  • @bugzilla2001 Oh, no you have the bubble theme on not the default

  • Hey, your Vvd was exactly i was looking for. Thanx for explanation of the ik-solvers!

  • You're probably not in edit mode.

  • can you do this with a character made of metaballs?

  • how did u make a person like that? its great

  • He didn't, he got it from Lightwave.

If you want to see a decent tutorial on making a character (low poly), google "montage studio low poly" -- first search result.

  • use 'make human' freeware to make model. its easy. save as .obj file and import to blender.

  • I used a mirror to make my mesh (a simple human) but now that i have rigged it, when i move the right arm, the left side of the mesh is deformed by the right armature as well. How do I fix this?

  • You must apply your effect in the modifier stack before you parent your mesh to a armature. Cause until then half of your mesh doesn't properly exist it's just the miror... See?

  • You need to apply the mirror modifier first. Then your "other half" will become a real, editiable set of vertices as well.

  • had same problem.

delete mirror select other half duplicate it, mirror X it and then paste it to the other half

  • it says it cant create stuff from bone heat theres an error with some bones

  • Sometimes that happens. I haven't found out what will trigger that error, but it seems to happen if you have alot of bones in the rig. All is not lost though. Even though it did not assign the weights it created the weight group names. You can see my other tutorial on how to paint weights and do it manually from there.

  • cheers, but i somehow fixed it, dunno how but it works, howver some areas needed manual weight painting but overall its a great video. 5 stars

  • when i make a parent to mines mines keep saying make a parent to object

  • thats cuase your selecting them in the wrong order

  • When i go to weight paint my model it is really dark, instead of the usual blue colour, i cant see how painting is turning out, how do i fix this?

  • Can you make this even if your character is grouped?

  • really good tutorial

  • i figured out why you guys can parent the pelvis and legs. its because in the first vid. when he duplicated the bones he did it in edit mode so remake the armature do it like that :P

  • Hey like the others, im having trouble selecting the duplicate leg, aswel as the pelvis and other leg. Any Ideas?

  • thanks so much, man. this speeds things up a bit.

  • So adding a "copy location\rotation" constraint to bones is kind of like parenting one bone to another?

  • Yes, but it has the added benefit of being animatable.

  • thanks for this tutorial. It sounds really professional.

  • when i try to select both my leg armatures with shift + Right Click it wont let me select the pelvis armaure after that to parent them.

  • I keep getting weird deforms..XD like the leg leaving part of the foot behindXD

  • I keep running into this problem, when ever I try to parent the armature to the mesh, I get the failed to find a solution to one or more bones. My mesh isn't human, and has a tail that put bones in(keep offset) parented to the pelvis. Is this the problem? or how can I fix this?

  • That sometimes happens to me. Honestly, I don''t know what causes that. The vertex groups will still be created and you can manually paint the weights. That's what my next upcoming tutorial is going to deal with.

  • and onther question, how are u selecting 2 differnt objects in editmode??

  • Maybe that is the problem you are having. I am not in edit mode when I multiselect. Maybe I forgot to mention that. If you are in edit mode hit the Tab key to go back to object mode, then Shift+right click on each object you want to select. Remember to select the Armature LAST then parent.

  • on the video it says edit mode tho?

  • hold shift, right click

  • wen i parented the bone to my mesh, i did the way u did, selected them both then parented to armature and the boneheat it still moved the whole mesh

  • how come all my duplicated objects disapeer when i return to my save file even if i saved? :(

  • is there a reason why you didn't mirror the thumb??

  • man, I have a problem at 4:58 of this video, how can i contact you for answers?

  • Just post any problems in the comments here or do a video response.

  • you are a pro dude!

  • another great tut this has gotta be the one of the best if not the best rigging tut ( for blender) on youtube :]
