Wasn't this episode surposed to be before Pop goes the diesel? if it does then Donald Douglas Bill Ben and Diesel haven't been introduced yet. But Henry Terence and Harold should have been invited to see City of Truro.
@SalukAntiwii no thats flying scotsman in tenders for henry/tender engines (TV) but they messed it up on the TV serise by showing just the two tenders
after i thought about it, i have a good explanation why Diesel is shown and why trucks (instead of people) laughed at gordon. it's possible this episode is out of production order and actually took place during diesel's first visit. then after gordon lost his domw, diesel told it to the trucks saying duck told him. after all, this episode came before dirty work in the books
@rushs11 It seems like in the third season Allcroft and Mitton wanted to sever all ties with real places and real engines. Then it got really stupid in season 4 with the Narrow tracks everywhere and the Bluebell Railway on Sodor... they must have decided the series was for kids rather than rail enthusiasts, but they didn't consider an important part of the audience... kids who *are* rail enthusiasts!
@Visonu City of Truro of 1903 was a Great Western engine (London and the south west), so that's how Duck knows who he is! The lack of a dome is pure GWR.
This is my favorite story from Series 3! I loved it a lot when I was a kid, and I still love it now. It's so cool to see the Sodor engines interacting with an engine that existed in real life.
you know "City of Truro's" model was a "dummy" model, meaning it had no motors or driving gears. It was later repainted and used a "scrap" model in later episodes

The actual name of the engine is "City of Truro", well-known for being the first ever locomotive to obtain a speed of 100mph.

I still don't get why they didn't use City of Truro's name in the UK series. I know no one from the US would know what engine he was.

The city of Truro is actually a real locomotive which worked on the London to North East line. It is now at the National railway museum in York.
