@noblinger Six of our racks are made by New Age Industrial Corp out of Norton, KS. We also have one odd ball one that has a plaque that says "Always Can - by Frank".
@noblinger I don't think The Epicenter sells the shelving, so maybe it wouldn't be out of line to pass along..look up Shelf Reliance on the web. They sell a line of shelving thats awesome...some designed just for #10 cans..or you can order a combination of small and large racks.
@kisathoi Yes, their racks are nice and not too expensive. You can spend as much as $1200 per rack for the ones like we have by the time you add casters. But if you keep an eye on your local Craigs List, or look for listings on Ebay that are not too far away (to keep shipping down), you can pick up used ones for around $300.
I did a sampling video for my workplace (fcsurplus) for mountain house scrambled eggs and didnt taste it before shooting the video. I was concerned about "what am i going to do if it tastes bad" :P). But when I tried it, it was actually not bad at all. I mean, I prefer to make my own at home to get that smell of bacon for 10 minutes before breakfast is ready but for camping and such...I like it.
I taste test all preparedness foods (MREs, freeze dried) with this in mind: Could I eat this on a camping trip? What if I could'nt get to a store and there is no food available? For any nonbelievers, I recommend you taste test them for yourself so as not to disrespect these people reviewing the foods they are tasting. OF COURSE, this is not your backyard New York Steak Barbeque or Grandma's Lasagna. This is EMERGENCY FOOD.
I was thinking of ordering a 3 month supply to take on a gold mining expedition. Anyone have any experience eating this stuff long term? Is it possible to retain normal poops or will this stuff turn your cornhole into an erupting volcano?
@NowLifeStarts I'm sorry I actually laughed so hard at that question, but, Yeah, I ate a few such meals for a few consecutive days and I was very much ok, the only thing is that it's pretty salty, so you'll probably be thirsty more often. But it has rather good nutritional info (apart from the amount of sodium...)
I tried the beef teriyaki and it was pretty good but was missing something in the flavor department. There was the essence of soy sauce but not the full flavor.
this is my favourite MH meal, I LOVE it. for me, I get the 2-serving package because I live alone. I love the 7 yr lifespan. The cans are great cause you can just store them away and know that in 20 yrs you will have perfectly good food to eat. So I do store some of the cans as well.
I gotta say, it taste really good. I'm the pickiest eating going, drove my mom crazy when I was a kid. I picked up my very first MH food yesterday and it happened to be the lasagna. I got the two serving one. I'm really not a big eater, so I never finished the whole package. I was very surprised about how good it taste. Only thing missing was maybe some salt and pepper and definitely italian bread!
I appreciate your trying to do the taste test thing but, with employees??? really? Now what do you think I would say about tasting something that I was trying to sell? I dont cook but if I was selling what I made I promise it would be ummm ummm good.
Might be better to get random people. This in not to be mean because I do use your product when we go camping. It is good but you gotta put a bit more random people in your ads.
the can opener in this video can be turned and open the can to make a lid with the top of the can i do it with all cans tht i open so i dont have to go through the trouble of finding a container to put it in
The lasagna was good, but for a two serving meal that calls for two cups of water I would use a cup and a half. It's too watery if you use two cups! Also the two serving size on all mountain house products is closer to one serving unless to do not want to feel full
Why does Mountain House pretend this is a serving for 10 people, when even here you only feed 4 with it? It is like all the 2 serving meals you sell, I can't find a single meal anywhere. Why would I want to cook up a double serving everytime?
Once you open up the Mountain House #10 can don't forget to create a vacuum in the can AGAIN by putting a small hole in the plastic cover, and then covering with a piece of electrical tape, then apply your foodsaver vacuum sealer and suck out all the remaining air out of the #10 can. This way you enhance the shelf life of the contents of the #10 can after you open it up by creating a new vacuum inbetween usage of the can.
Other than the Pilot Bread Crackers, I've never been disappointed with a Mountain House Product. My fav has probably got to be the Sweet and Sour Pork or the Chili Mac. Beef Stew is good too!
man I want those stocked shelves in the background......

I would use 7.5 cups of water, I saw a guy make the eggs and there was a lot of water left over.

@johnmonk66 Look for the Pro-Pack meals. Those are single servings. However, I'm a average size man, and it doesn't fill me up!
