  • this is soo stupid it's sad

    fot the horse isnt it

  • @Chinoukloes huh?

  • Why do they do it but. Still I swim WITH my horse

  • with a little bridge i think, in another movie they used a little bridge...

  • i want to know how the guy got to the island in the middle.

  • @Jezzkuhh whahaahha!

  • @Jezzkuhh lol :P

  • if the horse didnt want to be in the water then the two guys with the lead reins would be in the water instead and the horse would be on the side saying, see how do you like it

  • @JessikaSaysMeow

So technically what you are saying is that anything to do with domestication of animals is abuse? Wow...

Most horses really enjoy swimming and it's also really good for them. "Free choice" for horses is not really relevant in this day and age.

  • i would not mind this if it was out of the horses choice, but its not.

  • how did that guy get in the middle without getting wet??

  • idk i just kinda feel bad for the horse

  • although i dont really see this hurting the horse, i do find myself concerned with the fact that what happens wen the horse gets so tired it cannot continue?

its heads going to go under then its got to be dragged out or to a position were it can stand and put its feet down?

    or am i wrong

  • why do they have to hold the rope things? i thought they could just swim on their own

  • @iwuvcats455 basically its so the horse doesnt start playing in the water, the idea is that they guys are exercising the horse, if the didnt have the ropes it would be doing what he hell it liked, such as swimming in circles, going the other way etc. its the same as when you are in the arena, unteathered my horse used to charge around like a looney wanting me to do the same, the are fun loving animals and adore to play.

  • And my friend, who owns horses, said that horses can't swim. BS I call on her again because this time I have proof. And I don't even own a horse and I still knew they swam. Geeze...

  • Wow. Your friend is quite the idiot to claim to know horses if she hasn't even heard of the Chicoteague Pony Swim and the bianuall migration that includes thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and tiny gazelles swimming through perilous channels.

  • @skybluepainter She wouldn't care about the wildebeest, zebras or gazelles. It's only her horses she cares about. Any other animal in life is beneath her because God made man to be the rulers of animal and animal shall forever be beneath man. *rolls eyes* We may be smarter than animals...but they have a purpose and being stunningly beautiful is one of them.

  • Wait. People didnt know about horse swimming pools? lol they use them all the time. if the horse has an injury or something swimming is good for them

  • Elliehedditch30 stupid comment!!

  • ah thats for excersizing isnt it?ir washign! we have on down the road to our stables!

  • we had a hrose a few years back that had to go to swimming classes problem was he wouldnt go in unless i was with him.

so there i am like a little fool swimming with the horse following me. i got knackered out pretty fast so she let me out then haha

  • @666darkhawk thats cute tho! i would love to swim with a horse!

  • @PotterYouRotter7

its better to swim with them properly you should try it sometime

  • @666darkhawk wish i could

  • the correct And safe way to have a horse swimming ... swimming is a good way to exercise a injured horse. finally some smart horse people

  • I dont mind horse swimming but i dont liek the idea ofd them havign to do it like making then go roun in circles cnat they just put them in a pool and let them get out when they are tired?

  • @Elliehedditch30 they have a ramp that the horse can walk in and out on. its kind of easy to tell when a horse is tired. dont worry they wont let him drown.

  • das ist kein erholen wenn er immer im kreis schwimmen soll

  • yes a horse could spook or something but theres always people arouns to help

any1 who thinks this is painful or cruel well u r stupid then the swimming makes the muscles stronger and wen babbro got hurt they put jim in a pool. also the horses in the wild swim havent u heard of the thing where hundreds of horses swam over a river or something

and u hear bout people swimming with there horses so u people r stupid if u think this is cruel

  • @kooks1118 Do you learn English at your school?

  • for those of you saying "it's exhausting" or "it looks painful", you wouldn't swim laps without building a little muscle up first would you? this is all part of muscle training and exercise. It can even be therapeutic.

  • Thats so cute lol i am new to youtube i have no friends

  • how does this seem painfull in the wild horses swim all the time..........

  • mais bon sang, comment le type du milieu a fait pour monter sur son îlot ? il plonge ?

  • its looks a lil deep.... i have no prob with this other then you can only really see a lil horse nose sticken out lol!

  • @quincyjx horses swim in the wild all the time. how does water hurt?

  • its because they are race horses thats why they do not just lower them down in a harness thay have to egg them on to do more to race faster . =D they allsow use a tredmill made for horses wich has a bum strap witch stops the horse from stopping runing and sliding off and a bar at the frount so they do not jump out they do this the meashur thire hart rate .

  • That's clever. I hope the pony enjoyed its calming swim :)

  • that is so cool. (Y)

  • So cute!! I love it!

  • seems to be exhausting

  • most horses love swimming... its builds muscle and stuff..

  • cool

  • my horses vet has a pool for horses when my mare went lame they strap them into a harness and lower them into the pool and that way they can thrash and move about and not have any chance of hurting themselves further it also helps them build up their muscles. This one is odd because the horse can get tired and not want to swim when they are straped in like my vet does when they are tired they just hang there and you hoist them out.

  • they have special chemicals in the water but i dont think they put clorine in. have you noticed how they have 2 lunge lines at either side to make sure it keeps swimming....i think it lks proper cute swimming......lol....xD...xx

  • there standing on the platform in the middle of pool. how did the get on to that platform

  • They have a removeable walkway to allow the man to walk over. They then remove it so the leads wont get hung up.

  • would this help a horse recover from laminitis

  • yeah, because it doesn't stress their joints but still offers exercise.

  • thats a cute horse, looks like hes enjoying the water

  • guys it doesn't harm them in any way.

The pool is specially made for horses and is used to build muscle up on race horses or just any kind of horse or its used for therapy and it is very effective

  • horses arent stupid they know how to swim and its good exercize for them and it doesnt hurt there hoofs

  • ok for all u who think that its bad for horses to swim... its not its acctually easier for them than groundwork... they were not harming the horse in anyway... if u still think im wrong google it!

  • lollers! !! but how does its get in and out???

I THINKS that is cruesl making all tyhe horses live underwater there whole lifes.

    Bacon?

  • My Horse LOVES the water. I've caught her rolling in the bottom of a pond, completely submerged. I would love to build one of these pools!!

  • bellooooooooo XDD

  • ....this is also a form of therapy, not abuse

  • i think its okay... if its not too deep so they wont drown =]

    who aggres?

    x.

    x.

    x.

  • swimming is actually really good for horses. they usually enjoy it and it helps them get stronger without putting strain/weight on their joints.

  • its not hurting the horse in any way and its actually easier on their joints than groundwork, so theres no need to feel bad for it.

  • swim friend swim !!!!!

  • believe it or not, horse's actually like this, and naturally when migrating in the wild horses have to cross rivers by swimming

  • I live near racing stables and the sea, between 5am and 8am the racehorses are excercised on the beach and in the sea water, and they love it.

In the past two young racehorses have drowned in the excercise pool, nobodies fault, just a sad accident.

  • this is some of the best kind of exercise for a horse. it is low impact so there is no damage done to their legs, swimming teaches them to realx and stay calm, it works muscles that usually dont get worked to their full adavntage and say a riding excersise takes 1 hour swimming will only take like 20 minutes and they get the same amoutn of exercise done.

  • I love how humans think they know what animals want.

  • i agree... but swimming is good for a horses back, so maybe thats why they did it... ?

  • Yes, just like how horses spook and bolt on land, which could often result in painful agonizing death. (Like tripping and breaking something, or ramming into other horses, etc.) No matter what you do with a horse, it could kill him. And hey, sometimes swimming pools best for rehabilitation! Horses who've hurt themselves on land are sometimes brought back to health through swimming. (As part of the treatment.)

  • seriously people! For horses this is just excersize... they ENJOY THIS! and would you people stop worrying about them drowning?! How do the horses survive in the wild when they have to swim across rivers??? They just swim!

    btw nice vid. :D

  • this does NOT cause the horse pain at all. people always think horses feel pain like humans do, but they are a heck of a lot tougher...and anyway, how would swimming cause a horse pain? does it cause you pain when you swim? seriously think about it

  • The major problem here is that you are requiring people to think logically. Do you really expect people to be able to do this? Seriously! You're asking people to do something that may very well be way beyond their ability. If they used they're brain for even a moment, they would understand you for sure, but the effort required would tax them beyond their ability to cope, and may even cause spontaneous human combustion. Do you want to be responsible for that? Though it may be fun to watch...

  • i dont get it are for horses swimming or against that has so confused me lol :-P

  • I agree! This is a good exercise to strengthen a horses legs. Vets recommend this for animals that need leg strengthening at times, let it be dogs or horses! So quit the assumptions people!

  • @myhorsepayday

Most people just think: a horse that swims, I haven't saw that before. Ok, mark it like animal cruelty.

It isn't, swimming can save a horses life cuz the horse can still exercise when it's injured.

A horse swimming is also natural, so horse swimming can't be bad.

  • I live in Newmarket! Awesome-ness.

  • how do you know, that this animals feels pain?

  • It doesn't cause pain, actually it is a great way to use thier muscles without putting much stress on joints etc. Just like many people take water aerobics to work out but lessen stress on thier bodies. And, just like people find it refreshing so do horses! once horses learn water is fun lots of them will look forward to it, be it a pool or creek! Animal people just can't win sometimes, either people hate us for one thing or another. But this is one of the las things to try to pick on us for

  • okay i was just curious and thanks 4 replying

  • i have a question not trying to be rude just curious but why do they ike pull it

  • They're helping to make sure that the horse keeps it's head above the water. Horse swim with their heads above the water like that, but getting water in a horse's nose isn't very pleasant for the horse. Also, they pull to keep in moving around the ring for the exercise.

  • physical therapy, if humans could do it, why not horses? besides it helps to build muscel with out the strain of resitance and friction of natural running walking an day to day activities against the lining of the knees and ankels.

  • They do the same thing to dogs with arthritis! It is actually better in salt water, let us all remember that a vet will actually tell you to soak a horses joints or feet in epsom salt to help with swelling!

  • Do the baby horses get little arm floaties??

  • LOL!!

  • @SlapaTornado lol that would be cute

  • @SlapaTornado haha lol

  • it helps them gain muscle for physcial thearpy and training for racing.

  • this is like physical therapy for a horse when the horse gets injured it is much easier for it to gain its strength back through swimming. also a great exercise for horses. mos horses love to swim. mine does.

  • i been to newamrket i didt see this :S

  • horses swim with their heads up anyways... their nostrils are so low on their face that they have to

  • horses naturaly swim with there heads up? and its head is being held up in a head collar so its not putting pressure on a bit or its mouth or anything like that? from this vid it doesnt look like the horses first time so if the grooms/riders ect were so horrible to it why would it get in again? aye exaclty, learn the facts of things before you go chanting about how people are abusing the horse!

  • Horses swim with there heads up, sort of how we do??

  • so youd rather keep the reins slack and have your horse drown? oh yeah these riders clearly are in the wrong then...

  • aww thats so cute :)

I would go in swimming with it

  • Newmarket California or Newmarket Ontario Canada?

    Thanks and cute vid!

  • new market as in england (i think by there accents) its a big racing place

  • andd meee!!!

  • how did the guy get in the middle without getting wet haha

  • Hmmm, good point, lol!

  • He must be a very good jumper...

  • maybe he got on a float and floated over der..

  • i vote for: maybe he is a hermit who lives on the island in the middle of the horse pool?

  • awwh. its interesting to watch! swimming pools are such a good therepy methodXD im just curious to knwo how the handler in the middle gets out.lol

  • new market, California?

  • It's cute to watch

  • my one horse Buddy(RIP) did that when he had an injury its neat to watch =)

  • This is a really cool video...the horse looks content, and because i'm weird, i wanna know how the person in the middle guiding the horse got there. lol.

  • hah. samee here!

  • Aww I love Newmarket. Its a lovely place to visit if you love horses.

My horse would of been thinking "Noo wayy am I going in there man!"

Shes scared of puddles let alone pools.

  • thats also a way to train or cure a sick horse right?

  • a good way to break a colt is in the river or high water. cuz he cant through(sry cant spell) u off or buck,

  • I never realized that horse swimming pools were so unknown about until today...I guess you learn something new everyday. I would do anything (within my moral scope, of course) for a swimming pool for my horses. And for other viewers, think of what swimming does for people: non-impact exercise (there is a giant opening in the circle on the right side; it is a gently sloping ramp with good traction. 21st century engineering is pretty much awesome).

  • Thank you someone that hasnt said how did it get out

where have u been i was prayin for u months ago i were goin insane!

  • I've never seen this before. What dose it do for the horse?

  • Looks like "human torturing horse" issue.

I think the horse would enjoy free swimming more than being pulled by the nose.

  • actually theyre guiding it via the headcollar, and its physio, for leg/joint injuries and to regain muscle when theyve been in the stall recovering from leg/joint/ligament injuries. its so they can exercise without putting strain on recovering muscles/ligaments/joints.

please research what youre ranting about so you dont look like a complete idiot.

  • torture? lmao you obviously know nothing

the ropes on its headcollar are used for guidence..if the horse didnt like its you'd know about it this is mainly used to give the horses healthy coats and joints,,

  • thanks for all the informations.

Yes, i know nothing about horses, but, I love them.

  • It is also held onto the head collar because if a horse can feel itself losin it will let itself drown holdin onto the headcollar means they can keep its nose out of water so it cud breathe if it did try to sink. dont believe me its wat the jockey sed

  • @DitZyLaydeeZ I can back this up, too. :] A friend of mine was riding her old Arabian gelding one day and they walked past cows. The horse had never seen cows, apparently they scared him so much he though he was going to die so he layed down (with rider on board) to wait to die. Silly horse. ;) He was fine, of course.

  • omg i like love horses!

  • did you film this yourself? I would really love to be able to watch things like this first hand as I am hoping to go into equine rehabilitation.

  • That is such a nice pool. Builds great muscle too.

  • horses are normally put in pools to help like . Broken legs and stuff . xD

  • @ 0:24 you can see the exit on the right side of the pool!

  • how does the horse get in and out. how deep is the water

  • awsome facilities lol how does the horse actually get in this particualr pool as i couldnt see an entrance lol

  • at 00.40 you can see a black thing on the wall behind the horse. I think you can open it there. Or maybe the pool is very shallow at one place, and the horse can jump out of it

  • OR MAYBE ThATS A FILTER THING!

  • I think it's amazing when trainers get the horses swimming like this... it takes confidence... coz you don't know how long till the horse gets tired and that. CUTE

  • where is this??

  • there is a bridge thing that they move over there that he walks on to get to the middle

    haha

  • It's very healty for horses :) Nice job...

Oh yeah, you can come to the middle with a ladder that you across over the water, you understand? My english is not very well... :S I'm from Holland ;) ByeBye!!

  • hmmm...

How did the guy get in the middle??

    OHH I KNOW I KNOW!!!

The guy got on the horse...

    right?

the horse swam him over there...

an he got on the island thingy mobob!

    Pretty horse btw

  • i wonder how that guy got in the middle......

  • race horses do that befor races

  • Great facility

  • Think of horses swimming like us swimming. We swim because it keeps us in shape and if there is an injury you encouraged to swim to ease the stress on joints, bones, tendons and ligiments. Thet can swim perfectly and you would be supprised how muh they actually enjoy it. The reason there is two of them is to guide the horse, it stops him swimming to the side and hurting himself, it also helps him keep his nose abouve the water.

  • Its Therapy for a horse coming back from injury. It is also a workout for them. Most horses enjoy swimming and it is good for their muscles to work with out putting stress on tendons/ liagments, etc.

  • they really enjoy it and its an amazing workout

  • fishkiller...

    shut up please

  • ok listen they are tring to nurse his leg not hurt him

  • no its therapy for horses

  • shirlock11

its supposed 2 be gud for their muscles or something n they enjoy it too.

  • Is this newmarket ontario??

  • I've heard of this but what is it 4? Therapy?

  • i have never seen or heard of this? why are they doing it?

  • how do that person get in the middle?

  • i was wondering the same thing!!!!

  • god people read the above comments from me

the horse gets out by a huge ramp the is about 10m long but u cant see it on the video coz i was concentrating on the horse

  • LOL! But how does the guy get off the little island? I think a palm tree and a pina colada is called for.

  • lol ha... let the other guy take the horse in circles

  • he seems 2 enjoy it bt how did he get in and hows he going 2 get out??

  • @ the back, you see a sort of gab, they can change it into kind of stairs, I think its gr8

  • I still think they should be like only 5 feet deep, I think it's too high, what if something hapened? I like the ones where there in place and it drains if something happens

  • nah they dont drain the water in newmarket

its a huge ramp tht goes out of the water and they have to hold the water because if the horse cant fight any more they face their fate and let themselves drown so they hold it to pull it bk u i case of an emergency duh !

  • they get out by draning the water and there is a ramp they walk out on then the next horse walks in and it fills up we have one at are barn are barn is so rich we have a swimming pool for humans and horses shows every thing you can trhink of

  • thats wot i was thinking xDD

  • i think it is so stupid that they hold the horse. The horse could swim by himself.

  • my friends horse was incredible at swimming!!

  • good

  • looks refreshing !

  • awwh cute!!

  • Hmm, I wish we had one of those at our barn! It would help Bounder alot, and mayby find the cause to his uber lameness. We are going to put him down if we cant fix it. Even if surgery, and X-rays are used. The horse looks like he's having fun! Water-Therapy is pretty cool, never seen it in person though.

  • revelonary hot walking
