308 links work better in most 308 builds, but... if the weapon is broken in you can use the cheaper 30.06 links. I use the 30.06 links for 30.06, 8mm, and 308
This weapon was originally a 30.06, then converted to 7.62x51, and in this clip it's shooting 8mm. The M249 is a 5.56mm, so this would be the great grandfather to the M240B class of weapon. The M249, and M240 both have Disintegrating metal links. The M1919A4 actually has a none Disintegrating metal belt. basically old style pull the round out of the belt, and the new style push it through the belt.
The Browning M1919 can use cloth belts (like in the video above) or the metal links like I talked about above. The cloth belts have far less wear on the weapon
They all use links. what you see on the MG42 and MG34 is a box (and a very small one) but it's full of linked ammunition. it's not like a magazine, a box on the side of a belt fed limits your ammunition, and slows your loading of the weapon.
Yes, I like the cloth belts. it takes a while to pick up all the links, but lcoth belts are easy. I have one of the original cloth belt loaders, so loading the belt is simple. Original belts work best, after market belts? the white ones are a bit tight and hard to load, the brown ones worked well. Trick... soak the aftermarket belt in ATF and then let it dry.. it helps in loading. belt gets loose? wash it and it will shrink.
manly note... soaking a white belt in ATF will turn your belt pink... It's best to dye the belts brown before soaking them otherwise you get funny looks at the range.
What brand of 1919 is that?

Do you like the cloth belts? Have ever experienced any problems? Do you think reusing them a lot could damage them?
