@teaweed1 No we use single barbless hooks. It's illegal to use treble or barbed hooks to fish for sturgeon. Set the hook good enough and keep your line tight at all times. Takes practice but you'll get it. We've been fishing for sturgeons for years. All the park rangers and Dam security's know us ahaha

We start fishing for sturgeon in mid May until August. Its fishing so no guaranteed. Somedays when they dont bight, man feels like there aint crap in the river. On days that they hit, shizz we get tired pulling them in. Hahaha
Yes, fishing is like exactly what you said. Most of the time, it's just hanging with good friends by the river. If the fish happen to bite then it's good, if not, it's still good too because spending time relaxing with friends, you can't beat that. We are currently fishing for sturgeon on Sac river and the Deep channel but so far no luck plus the weather hasn't been too kind. One day in the summer, my friends and I will make a journey to that place since we love fishing.
I see, up here its cold so we don't bother Sturgeon fishing this time of the year. Even in early spring when the water is still a little cold. The fish action isn't good enough to be out there. We like nice warm sunny days.
We use cheap Trilene lines from walmart. People tend to use 50lb or 60lb most of the time but I personally use 40lbs. We've pulled a 98 inch with 40lbs before. Alot of wear on the line but over all I think its smoother

No they have to be from 43in-54in from tip of the nose to the fork of the tail. This year from beginning of august to whenver again is all catch and release. Look in the Washington state fish regulation book for more detail

cut bait...crappie is the best bait. Cut into small pices about 1.5 inch long and put it on your hook..tie and good and cast it out....you'll be surprise by how big of fish you can catch with such small bait!
