Ok to all the people who say that only american akitas can have black masks you are sadly wrong it is the japanese shiba inu that it limited in colour the akitas come in different varieties some even get a gene splice that makes them have long hair. I have a beautiful japanese akita and he has mutiple colours. I also have a long haired akita. They are both wonderful dogs.

@dan1707 American Akita's can have black masks as well as come in many colors. But Akita Inu (or Japanese Akita) can not have a black mask.

@dan1707 if your going on breed standards then japanese akita inus cannot have black masks as this is an instant default in shows....and there colours are limited. even registration companys still get mixed up with the breeds and class american akitas or akitas as japanese.

At one year, they're still just a pup. Our male only weighed about 95 lbs. at one year, but topped off at 150 lbs. On the other hand, our female only weighed 65 lbs.

Japanese Akitas resemble an over grown fox were as the American Akitas resemble bears.

The Japanese Akitas are not allowed to have black masks and legally can only be in 3 or 4 colours. The American Akitas are known for the black 'masks' across the face and can come in almost any colour.

I wish I could get a second akita/dog.

Man I socialized my female Akita quite a bit, now that she is 2, dogs of either sex can not be close to her or she goes from dominate non-aggressive behavior when they are 10 feet away to full attack mode once they are within range with NO indication or really reason.

She almost seems to be smiling, happy, and interested, then BOOM HEADSHOT.

Its a bit of a bummer, but she loves people.

Im sure there will be an akita somewhere in finland, Just travel to get 1. If i wanted a dog that was rare, i would travel to pick it up.

If there is no akitas at all in finland (rare chance) , Get one 'imported', it may have to go in quarentine for a few weeks though. But hey, everyone will be paying you lots of cash seen as your only 2/10 people who have them! lol
