  • I've been wanting to run this race for awhile now.......so awesome

  • To think; if he was a gladiator he probably would've killed everybody.

  • 0:06 bulgee

  • The guy is tough

  • He lives up to the soundtrack

  • Man down at 0:45 ... probably mile 50

  • I'm pretty sure his shirt is made of toilet paper.

  • why is his shirt falling apart?

  • @rotpeter90 His sweat, the heat and the friction of his skin on the shirt wear it out

  • Look at that fuckin shirt. What an animal.

  • Are you frickin' kidding? Most endurance runners have plenty of muscle but it's vascular slow twitch - necessarily lean so that blood vessels can reach it efficiently, that's why training endurance leads to a loss of muscle mass, because it's not explosive anaerobic. And muscles do break down in extreme events like this and other ultras, especially at this kind of pace. Fat breaks down as a fuel, muscles break down as a side effect.

  • who holds the course record for badwater?

  • @kaguth Chuck 'the man' Norris.

  • @c2conditioning Ha, actually he didn't mean to run the race but his monster truck got a flat tire, so he carried it the 130 miles through death valley.

  • it is a 135 race in death valley called the badwater 135, im training for it

  • Was this a 150 mile race?

  • @potsocket1 i believe it is a 135 mile race

  • how the hell does he do so much cardio and still maintain a well built physique??

  • @Beyondconsciousness He also lifts weights 4-5 times a week. Plus his father is Kratos.

  • @Beyondconsciousness He also lifts weights 4-5 times a week. Plus his father is Kratos.

  • @Beyondconsciousness when he was a seal, he was around 280lbs soo he lost a lot of muscle lol

  • @Beyondconsciousness

Cardio burns fat not muscle. Most of marathon runners are skinny because they do not lift weights as him, in result they got no muscle and no fat that equals being skinny.

  • @K1rilas saying that runner's have no muscle is a severely misguided concept. The body "gets rid" of muscles as well as strengthening muscles for the exercise it is needing them for. Weight in fat or unneeded muscle are both not helping the runner. Having huge biceps, neck muscles etc. will work against you in a running race.

also, any type of exercise will eventually use stored muscles as a fuel source if you don't replenish your bodies natural sources of glycogen during the exercise..

  • why is David not listed in the 2007's results? I wanted to see his splits...

  • Before there was Seal Team 6 there was David Goggins!

  • @Skubalah before there was david goggins there was david goggins!

  • @tiatdivad Yes. I think he still is. He actually runs to raise money for injured Veterans.

  • @jpd782 not for the veterans, for their kids to go to college.

  • @tiatdivad yes

  • Thank you David! You are a true American hero in so many ways!

  • if goggins lost some extra muscle he would absolutly crush all of the other guys

  • @beavervalley1 Probably wouldn't help him with his day job though.

  • ive yet to see him smile

  • This video did the impossible, it got me to like AC/DC.

  • @TheGreenParakeet12

I guess you need to know that type of person to really appreciate who and what he is. He seems more down to Earth than anything else. :)

  • how would you train for this?

  • yeah i think he was serving out cups of concrete to everyone at the finish! Machine!

  • This guy is such a BIG inspiration to me.

  • When I jog for 2 miles I feel like a beast.

  • @VertexARTS Same lol :P

  • @TheGreenParakeet12 You're kidding right? Dean couldn't wear this guy's jockstrap.

  • @tdrchainsaw Maybe he's a better runner, but Dean is so much more charismatic and just a nice guy. This guy just never smiles and seems just...meh :P

  • @TheGreenParakeet12 He might seem like that, I agree, but I've talked to numerous people who personally know and have met SO1 Goggins in real life, and everyone of them has said that he is the most humble, down to Earth guy you'll ever meet. He also stuck around at the end of the Badwater race to cheer on all of the other runners (Despite facing multiple medical emergencies himself), and he even walked back down the course and ran side-by-side with the last place marathoner to the finish line.

  • nothing on haile :)

  • @TheGreenParakeet12 .......no comment

  • Hey - serious question: does anyone know how he manages to maintain a SEAL career?

Obviously, long/ultra distance running is like the ultimate enemy of muscle, thus giving runners thin, wiry frames, but thsi guy manages to stay in shape enough to be an operational Special forces soldier!

He's super-human! The strength to pull himself over a 10ft wall or rope ladder, and the endurance to run 100 miles or more!

  • @PyschoticChimp His caloric intake has to be massive to put off muscle atrophy. I've seen an interview where he says he weight lifts 3x a week. 3x a week for most people would result in a excellent body. But with all that, he still has to be something special to not have his body's internals not fail on him.

Plus you gotta remember a lot of his 'Career' is probably doing these events. The seals can point to this guy and say "This is a Seal, don't you want to be one?"

  • This dude came to our school and he is just like beasty. They want us to join the navy SEALS cuz waterpolo players you know.. ARE BEASTY XD yeah but hes a really cool dude.

  • I run marathons and this guy is amazing. Not only that he is a Seal.In my book he is the best of the best.Excellent soundtrack to the vid,David Rocks.

  • this boy is RAW son im hiking cross country at the end of this week becuz of this man & of course for myself!! test that mind test that body & be able to look back at something that was nasty & FUCKING HARDCORE 1 life 1time to live it LETS GO BOYSSS

  • This guy is such inspiration that I started running 2.5 miles everyday and every other week i boost up by .5 miles....may seem abit low but I have to go at my own pace

  • he is like a running hulk. "I'm so beast, my shirt rips while I'm running."

  • @dannya1209 haha, true !

  • i loved running since the first time that i put my sneakers on and start running

  • This guy obviously needs to get in shape. JK His little toe could kick my butt any day of the week! True Badass!

  • dean karnazes rules!

  • @Baklkls13 Goggins could kick his ass all day.

  • @Baklkls13

Yes dean rocks, but what does that have to do with this video?

  • When I feel shitty or I feel I cant run my daily 4 miles. I watch this vid. Never quit...hard as a rock...fucker!

  • I met him before. he came to my school and spoke to ROTC. It was awesome. (:

  • He is quite muscular for ultramaraton :)

  • @alanford63 he used to be 290 lbs and dropped the weight for SEAL training then he gained back weight (280 lbs.) from weight lifting and lost it again to run marathons to raise money for kids of guys in special forces.

  • Winning time was 22:51:29

    Goggins placed 3rd.

    Amazing stuff!

  • Never get tried of watching this, what an amazing athlete. Best of luck at RAAM and with that heart problem.

  • He came into the ultramarathoning world and just dominated. amazing how he finished so good his first and second time. 3 marathons. and over 30 ultras. I know runners who have been running for 25 or 30 years and they could never get this far. He is definitely a Super Athlete.

WHATS NEXT GOGGINS? I say you run across America, Forest Gump style. HOOYAH

  • Get some shoes that fit and work for you and try Wright socks. They are double lined so the friction is in between the two layers of sock. Change them if you get wet and You will never have another blister.

  • One of the few people who inspire me in regard to running.

  • David,

Great meeting you on Friday at the Seal Base! What a fantastic story you have! A great motivation to my son and I. Thanks for spending time with us!

    Michael Adler

  • 2:05 zombie modus

  • I remember a couple years back, he did the Ironman out at Kona. When they interviewed him about his motivation, he said it was entirely to challenge himself. He absolutely hates taking part in the endurance sports, but his hate of them motivates him to push through them. Beastly. I weigh about 60% of what he does, and I can't imagine completing a 130+ mile race nonstop. Beastly.

  • Im training for my first marathon at the moment. My mentor/trainer said it's not physical but a mental test. I guess that's why at the weight he is, Goggins can do what he does best. He certainly doesn't have the physical profile of your typical ultramarathon runner.

On that logic that's why you can't do the 130mile races he does. In saying that neither could I. I definately don't have the mentality for that type of event either.

BTW, anyone have any good tips for blister prevention? :p

  • @grim0033

My advice is to get blisters and run on them, let them burst and let it hurt, don't take the skin off and let it turn to a callous(sp) then you won't get blisters anymore on that area.

  • @AlexWynand

haha thanks man, I kinda found that actually has been the best way. On one foot i made the mistake of cutting the skin away after i popped it. On the other foot though I left the blister there after i lanced it. That foot is now blister free, but the skin is hard as rock!

    Thanks alex.

  • @grim0033

actually, what ive noticed that, okay you need to be skinny as shit to run marathon, but after you reach 50km, the longer it is the bigger build you need to be, otherwise youd just collapse. if gebrselassie climbed mount everest, he would die. or at least: that is where my money would be at.

  • @SawViking Yeah, perhaps. More muscle means more glycogen storage capacity, however, you are lugging a bigger body so perhaps that advantage is countered by the extra weight. I'd still suggest Goggins is much bigger than your garden variety ultra runner. Just look at Dean Karnazes he is half the size of Goggins. At the end of the day those distances require strength of mind, more than they do strength of body.

  • lol 1:43 next 9 miles up hill for david

  • What's a BMF?! David Goggins is a BMF!

  • what a beast!!!amazen!

  • Goggins is a BEAST. He is my hero.

  • this guy is from hell.

  • no his from the NAVY SEALS...far worst then hell

  • of course.

  • hes doing it for a great cause too

  • wat a badass

  • how can you be that stacked and be able to run an ultramarathon? crazy

  • i like how people in marathons are thin and toned, but then the ultramarathon people seem to have large bulky legs and nice big core muscles.

I seem to have been born with a lot of bulky muscle and could never chase after the boney ones that never seem to get tired because they are so light.

  • He's a Navy Seal. His training focuses on both strength and endurance. Truely amazing.

  • He used to be a 290lb powerlifter and he eats like crazy to keep what he's got. Also, I'm sure he does a lot of strength training still.

  • he's actually only 190 lbs.

    probably 3% body fat haha.

  • @sneakaholic011 Really? Only 190 lbs? He looks way heavier.

  • he is my aidol perfect

  • I saw this on TV. All they said was that he was in the Navy, it wasn't until later that I found out he was a SEAL.

  • Amazing! If he was third, who placed 1st and 2nd?

  • 1 Valmir Nunes - age 43 from Brazil....Wow!

    2 Akos Konya

  • they should of had a pushup contest right after...... Goggins would of raped all of them

  • Comment removed

  • this guys is an inspiration. what a bad arse

  • hm1 Luttrell and so1 Goggins are my heroes

  • he so badass x D

  • Third place in this, as a Navy SEAL is amazing.

For ultra's, the guys usually have no upper-body weight whatsoever, but as a SEAL he has to have lots of upper body muscle, which makes him heavier.

    Hooyah, David.

  • yeah mannnnn, in runners world it says he dropped like 50 pounds in bulk cuz he was doing ultramarathons

    go goggins go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy is an absolute beast

  • Wow, he got third place in this thing!

  • navy seals are better and nicer than marines who think they are the shit

  • the few, the proud, the arrogant

  • This man is an inspiration. I hope to get the chance to train under him in Coronado!

    HOOYAH!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • If you wanna try it in a Terrorist Country, try it in your own country the US, no country has killed more people in the 20th century. Beside of that, this guy its amazing.

  • the man is a terminator!!!! but he wasnt always like that. he used to be REALLY big. 280 i think it was. He said he started doing running and swimming and a new diet, and lost 100 pounds in about 3 months! like i said, he's a terminator

  • Goggins is the SHIT however....he isnt straight forward about what it took to get here. yeah he was big in 2005 when he ran his first ultra, but he had been through BUD/S and he won the USMC mud run at Pendelton in cammies and boots. The guy is/was a training fitness machine. Its not like he went from 0 to hero in 2 years. He was WAY beyond the average athlete even before he did ultras

  • yeah he was also "Honored" when he graduated from Army Ranger School. But actually he does speak(in a couple Runner's World Magazines) about when he was 17 and got national publicity because some of the endurance shit he did. He does speak of pre-military stuff.

  • the epitome of BAD ASS! I can run 10.75 miles in 90 minutes, thats tough. But this is truly..... well what can you say, BAD ASS!

  • damn in 06' he made it in 30 hrs. 07' 25hrs. guy is a fuckin' machine.

  • The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday.

  • Man Chuck Norris has nightmares about David Goggins every night haha

  • David Goggins once lit his beard on fire in a dark cave to read a map.

  • omg i laughed :D

  • omg i laughed at u.

  • thats racist!

  • Dave is a Former USAF TACP, prior to becoming a SEAL

  • I wonder if he could take Steven Segal? Just kiddin' David....you are Segal+Chuck Norris+Prefontaine+Mother Teresa+Superman.

  • lol @ you

  • its 135 mile of hell. It gets up to 120 and there is 13,000 feet of elevation gain.

  • it says in the info that this race was 100 miles not 135

  • research is key.

  • Goggins is the closest thing we have to SUPERMAN. I met him at the LA Marathon at the Expo. He rode a double century in death valley and then drove 5 hours to LA to run the marathon on on hour sleep and then ran to Burbank after the marathon. BEAST. His boy with him said he did 1,000 pull-ups the day before that. Said he refused to leave the gym till he did ONE THOUSAND pull ups

  • lol wow thats crazy

  • dear mother of god- that is alot of pull ups.

  • i have started to follow this dude....insane..motivating !!!!..he used to be 280 pounds??? that is crazy what he has done to himself...

  • I saw the cover of the latest 'Runner's World' and did a double take...

I went through Hell Week and some BUDs training with this guy, the one he was injured in: Class 231 (spring of 2000).

He used to struggle through the 4-mile timed runs, ironically enough! He would playfully tease the instructors, like he was begging them to push him harder!

His success is truly a testament to the potential of the human spirit.

    Amazing athlete and humanitarian.

  • I saw his LStudio video- this guy is insane, the 2008LStudio channel has another good video of him too

  • You know, this guy is great but if he had less upper body mass he would be a quicker runner but then again his overall fitness would suffer... either way great athlete. All my best wishes.

  • The upper body mass is neeed for his day job.

  • Yes I do understand that.

  • Badwater--only for a complete animal--all hails to Goggins and anyone who has ever been involved in this super human event.

  • HOOYAH!

    NAVY SEALS

He is one hell of a Navy Seal

  • ups..i am sorry hes NOT a human LOL

  • amazing human ;D

  • my mom loves david.

  • david goggins your my hero

    and i really meant that!

  • david goggins u are one hardcore mothafucker!

  • absolute ANIMAL! This guy is the bionic man. I heard him speak at a lecture....real good speaker...made me want to take my game up a few HUNDRED levels.

  • This guy used to be 280 lbs of HUGE muscle when he was an Active SEAL. This guy is like a super hero. There are 3 SEALs that have been threw 3 complete Hell Weeks. Goggins went through 2 1/2 H. weeks. 1 Hell week is bad enough!!

This is our modern day superman.

He is at the sealfitnesschallenge events if you want to meet him.

  • baddass SEAL

  • just awsome wot more can i say .training to do my first ultra next year .but will never be in david league .

  • Simply amazing, this guy is the man, he motivates the hell out of me, every Satuarday when I go out to run 35 miles I watch this film to show that, that amount of miles are small potatoes. This is the mans, man.

  • How did you build up to that mileage? I am training for an Ironman triathlon right now but want to start building up running mileage for ultramarathons next season. Not sure if it's a bad idea to combine the training :S

PS 35 miles is stil badasssssssss

  • Thanks, Im preparing for my first 50. Everyone in endurance running has a different way of increasing their mileage. I use a system of 3 on 3, my usual (normal) long run is 22 miles but to increase the mileage I add 3 miles every 3 weeks til I hit my target which for a 50 will be 38 miles when I start training fo my first 100 next year I plan to run up to 70 miles on my long run but as stated everyone is different just be cautious of increasing to fast, as to avoid injury.

  • Allright! well kudos to you and thanks for the advice, I am going to gradually build mileage at least until August after the Ironman and then start building :)

  • Dude's a badassssss!

  • David Goggins is a beast

  • this guy came to my school today, he is my new hero!

  • David,

You have harnest and focused your superior attributes for the imbetterment of others. By you actions you speak volumes. You are a teacher and have helped show me how to harnest my abilities and use them for good. It also looks like you have a strong, supportive and loving wife and that makes you blessed. Know that I salute you and I'm in awe of your awesome endeavors. May God Bless you and yours.

    William Dennis Brown Jr.

  • Sounds like his wife might have to keep a look out....

  • On May 2nd,Efren Cazales(A Marine Combat Veteran)&William Dennis Brown Jr. A Navy SEAL Combat Veteran)will run from Rutgers Camden to Rutgers New Brunswick

  • Wow, this guy is one HARD M.F. he's a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Air Force Secial Opps and he ran 9 100mile or longer races last year.

Almost forgot he has also done 3 hell weeks.

    Enough said.

  • He a SEAL. After graduating from BUD/s some guys get to go to Ranger school to o thru the course. They wont be "Rangers" but they would have done the Ranger school. Hes been thru 2 hellweeks becuase he got hurt in the first.

  • I have never met anyone on this earth that has as much heart as David does! David is a true American HERO! He is a true role model!

    "The Head"

  • Dave - you are bad ass!
