They have taken a big step forward by bringing back the turbo regal. To really compete with ford, thumb up this comment and copy and paste it to other Grand National videos if you think Buick (GM) should bring back the all reigning GN!
HISTORY LESSON! The buick Gn was the fastest acceleration car in America. The dodge Viper is shit on the take off because Dodge doesn't believe in T/C. That answer the questions for why the Buick won and is still a bad ass car.
I had an 86 Grand National. I got it new with 18 miles on it. It had over 100k when I got rid of it. I loved that car. I hated people calling it a Monte Carlo SS though. I do not have a Viper but I do own an 07 Corvette Z06 and there is no way in hell a stock GN could even tough my Z06 must less beat it. There are people building the little Turbo 231c.i. V6's to run like a raped ape but there is still no comparison.
i love seeing any gm or ford whipping a viper. totally wild in this case when you consider the buick has less than half the displacement of the viper.

Though most of the people saying it are totally misusing it.

If most of that Grand Natianal´s engine is stock, how the hell can it beat a Viper? A stock GN is around 260HP. The ´06 Viper (although it still had the "smaller" 8.2 litre) has 500HP, thats like 440HP to the wheels. Enough to blast the doors of the Buick. Probably the owner is still learning to use the stick shift. But still, the Viper is my favorite. But I got to add, there is no car that has that totally evil look like the GN, its simply beautiful. Specially an all black GNX.
That GN is making a LOT more than stock power. Meth injection with the other mods this GN likely has will allow it to easily up the boost into the 24# range (possibly more depending on other mods). Add the DRs into the mix and you get what this Viper got... A Buick with more than plenty enough power to hold it's own very nicely.
hella launch for the GN, looks like thats all he had because by the looks of it the viper stayed same distance behind for the rest of the race, nice kill for the GN, do some mods on the viper I bet it would even up fast

a turbo increases the volumetric efficiency of your engine why do you think they put turbos on diesel trucks go back to school and learn a few things i have built cars and harleys for over 30 years so i am maybe a bit more knowledgable than you a turbo will essentially double your displacement!!

P.S. Does anyone else notice that the gn doesn't really spool up the turbo before the launch (even though the drag radials should handle it) .. it would have been an even bigger upset for the viper fans.

YEp I totally agree... I have a GNX and have waxed everything from Vettes, Vipers, and of course Ricers... They are left behind in a cloud of turbo dust and when I decide to let them catch up, they are dazed and confused...as if they had no idea what the car could do... To the dumb ones, they just thought it was a black Buick... how WRONG they were...I love my GNX...Inherited it from my dad and mom...may they rest in peace

So what? Vipers are plenty fast with the RIGHT driver. You people with the "turbo in a trashcan" mentality that as long as its "fast" its ok to be a complete junker. Not that the GN is a junker but its lame to call out someone just for having a nice ride and its obvious by the sound that the Viper driver missed a gear along with launching soft. As for times, Wanted ran a 10.92@129 in his STOCK 08 Viper and other lightly modded Vipers have been in the 9's. Not a slow car in the least.

@1quickWS6 Yeah, it's been a couple YEARS since I said that. Give me a little credit. For instance, now I know that methanol injection is used as a water-meth mix to cool down turbocharged and supercharged engines so that you can turn them up and make more boost without all the excessive heat.

Viper sounded like it spun a little in the first few gears. A few basic bolt on's and the Viper is a wicked fast car. Headers and meth on the Viper would make it no contest.

The back seats are made of foam and slide into the body, you might save 10 lbs from removing both halves.
It would be better to get a fiber glass hood, tubular a-arms and relocate the battery.

If the idiot in the viper knew how to start he woulda won no contest, but instead he let off slow, and here the GN is roasting drag radials and still winning... pathetic driver in the Viper.
And to those who say the Viper was the one losing traction: No. If the viper were roasting the tires, you'd hear the exhaust. With 14 inch wide rear tires, you need a lot of RPM, even in a 500 hp car, to light those up.
