  • What I read on your profile was totally fasinating. I have always wanted to be on a soundstage at a soap and watch how it is done. I also had no idea that he played the theme on a piano and organ at the same time. It is so sad to see soap operas come to an end.

  • I love this theme! My mother was a teacher, so after school I would go to a friends house until my mom was done and could pick me up. We would play Barbies, and when this theme came on it was time to pack up the Barbies! Just brough back memories, thanks.

  • @snowgirl1052 I'm glad you enjoyed this theme -- both my rendition of it and Charlie Paul's actual playing on TV! I've added a comment to your channel!

  • Hi soapluva! Excellent job. I must say that this makes me miss ATWT all the more. This brings back fond memories.

  • AWESOME JOB!!!

  • I have spent the better part of the day, listening to the classic ATWT theme, and, yes, it brought tears to my eyes, too. ATWT was a part of my life growing up in the 60s...loved all the characters, they were like family....and the music is just so nostalgic. THANKS, SOAPLUVVA !! I have read your myspace page and was fascinated and thrilled that you knew Mr. Paul. What an honor! I also want to hear the Search for Tomorrow theme with organ and piano which preceded "When Tomorrow Comes"

  • Soapluvva, you are very good. I enjoy the organ and piano of these old themes. Keep up the good work!

  • I wish I had $89.000.00 for the Lowery Prestige Organ

  • He does a great job. Brings back lots of good memories.

  • This guy is good. I wonder if he call also do the original Edge of Night theme

  • Did Charles Paul play an organ for the part that sounds like a piano or an actual piano?

  • To: east 215

Charlie played a Steinway grand piano during the opening and closing ATWT themes, along with a Hammond B-3 organ. The bell sounds in the middle break themes and the closing theme were played on a Simone celeste. See my YouTube profile, which has the URL for my MySpace profile, for further details.

  • This is wonderful....You must be channeling Charles Paul!

    I can do a dead-on Dan McCullough!

  • Remarkable! So close to the real thing! You could have substituted for Charles Paul when he was on vacation.

I have a request: The classic 1950s-to-early 1970s opening and closing themes to "Search for Tomorrow." And "Another World"!

  • I'd like to hear you play both the original "Search For Tomorrow" theme and the keyboard (pre-orchestral) version, titled "We'll Search For Tomorrow."

Actually, the second one will be more challenging for you, because, as with "ATWT," there is a piano part in it.

By the way, I concur with this other poster that you could well have substituted for or replaced any of the Procter & Gamble/CBS keyboardists.

I only wish there would be a renaissance of good soaps which could utilize such talent.

  • NICE!!! EXCELLENT!!! Dan McCollugh would be proud of this for sure!!

  • Beautiful Job! I know Dan McCullough would have been proud!

  • Incredible. If I close my eyes I can see myself in front of the old Admiral b/w set as a kid. You're so talented. I'm speechless.

  • Great job!

  • thank you so much for the beautiful as the world turns I well never for get that show my mother watched it in the 60s every day and when I here it I always remember her Sam

  • It is fabulous to know someone else appreciates this fabulous theme from this fantastic show. Having watched it since 1960 I remember this all to well since it was the best they ever had. If you ever decide to record it, I will gladly do the spoken part of Dan McCullough, I know it by heart !!! "Join us again tomorrow for another half hour of drama, on As The World Turns" !!!!!

  • To: unitedair186

Yes, I agree the theme was truly fabulous! I have a number of audio recordings of the theme made during 1971 to 1973. I also have a whole bunch of ATWT scripts from the summer of 1974 when I was working at the CBS Broadcast Center, which include Dan McCullough's "blue pages" (the announcer inserts containing his copy).

It would be a cool idea to completely recreate all portions of the theme with typical announcer copy and appropriate billboards.

    Regards!

  • If you do Mr. McCullough, you should do sponsers as well as "Fashions by Rona, Mens wear by Barneys"

  • Have you seen the Classic ATWT site? It has a detailed history of the music and openings. I tried to post an exact link for it, but was not successful. search for Classic As The World Turns.

Looking forward to more of your videos.

  • To: geoandscot

    Yes, I've seen it.

YouTube doesn't permit URLs to be posted within comments.

I'm working on Eddie Layton's Hammond X organ version of "The Secret Storm" and Charlie Paul's Steinway piano-Conn Artist organ version of "La Lumière" (the early 70s theme of "The Guiding Light").

    Regards!

    Soapluvva

  • What fun! Now let's get you going on Search for Tomorrow!

  • To: NelsonAspen

Actually, I'm planning on playing Eddie Layton's version of "The Secret Storm" next. I'd like to concentrate on Charlie Paul's and Eddie Layton's themes, before possibly moving along to themes written by other composers.

"Search for Tomorrow" had several themes during its broadcast history. Which particular one(s) did you have in mind?

  • what kind of organ are u playing? the make and model?

  • to: MrOrganist1

    Greetings from New York City!

I am playing the Lowrey A5000 Prestige.

You can get some photos and specs from various websites. Use Google to search for "Lowrey Prestige."

    Regards!

  • Ah, I see someone else has asked for "Search for Tomorrow." I am thinking of the only piano-and-organ theme I recall -- the one that Mary Stuart, in her book "Both of Me," said "sounded like it was going to be 'Beyond the Blue Horizon' but wasn't." I don't believe Ashley Miller wrote it; I believe he was the last organist to play it before "Search" went to recorded music. There are videos on YouTube of 1950s "Search" episodes with this theme.

  • What a beautiful version of this theme I recall so well. You play magnificently. I love only vintage soap back in the days when they used organ music, which they never should have ceased doing. This piece by Chas. Paul was my fave soap theme. Hope one day you do another of his from Another World. Would love to talk to you some day about s organ music.

  • To: baycityworld

    Thanks for your comments!

I don't have the score for Charlie Paul's version of "Another World," although John Kelly Genovese had prepared a melody lead sheet for it around 1975. I have a copy of an audio tape that John had prepared for Charlie where John was playing quite a number of Charlie's themes including "Another World" on an organ and electric piano. I'd like to try to contact John to get his permission to post the tape on YouTube.

  • How talented you are! I cried too....

  • All three of these ATWT videos and the music are so wonderful! They bring back such memories of my childhood. I also went and played these videos for my Mom - and the music brought tears to her eyes (she has watched ATWT since1956, and I "inherited" the show from her). Thank you for sharing the music and the fantastic story of your history with the music, Soapluvva!

  • COOL!
