This is the most beautiful extract I have ever seen Alina Somova dance, regardless of any considerations of technique or choreography. It's my favourite part of the ballet - the *heart* of the ballet - and maybe I am a Romantic, but here we can see an infinitely precious, poignant moment - the beauty of first love. It is such a fleeting, ephemeral moment but it *does* exist and here Alina captures all the innocence and rapture of that moment for us to see for all time. Thank you, Nina!
It's just a simple joyous moment where a pretty girl meets a pretty boy and they fall in love... But such a beauty of life only exists in the small girl's dream. Tchaikovsky knew it and this music has such shade of nostalgia and melancholy with abundant of happiness.
So Alina's characterisation of innocence makes this piece infinitely precious...
Somova possesses the biggest heart in ballet. She will go into history as the century’s greatest ballerina.
