If he wasn't doing anything that was frightening then, you may want to start training the dog on analyzing situations. But Boerbols are known to be very smart. It may just be that he is too anxious. It's not the breed in general.. yes genetics do tend to play a small role but I would say personally alot has to do with owner and environment. I disagree with you, I am around 13 boerboels daily and have never been bitten. Temperament and personality varies from dog to dog I do not find that fair to judge an entire breed.

A surgeon has issued a plea for parents to take extreme care with a breed of dog - the boerboel.
Dr Jonathan Toogood, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, said this after an increasing number of dog attacks on children - the majority by the South African-bred boerboel.

Very Beautiful mastiff!!! The problem with your dog though is that he is not confident. He is very afraid. What was the camera person doing that scared the dog? If he wasn't doing anything that was frightening then, you may want to start training the dog on analyzing situations. But Boerbols are known to be very smart. It may just be that he is too anxious. Don't reward him when he is being overly anxious without a real purpose. Then you will be dumbing him down. Again beautiful dog!!!

@tbadger I totally agree they probably trained him as a fighting dog which they just destoried the breed. The real Boerboel breed is friendly and gentle ..but is only this aggressive if they absolutely need to be to defend their owner. They probably had their "pit" killed in fights and wanted to best to make up for it...

Lovely dog! Im South African and have 2 of these beauties! Best working dogs in the world! GREAT with kids, very very protective! Nothing enters my yard with them around! Agree with Miami! Have your dog properly trained! He will amaze you!

@CopperheadDaughter--As someone closely associated with breeding Boerboels, I cant, for the life of me, believe that this type of behavior and attitude associated with Boerboels doesn't scare the hell out of you. @howavart34 any dog can be labeled as dangerous... no matter what the breed. It's not the breed in general.. yes genetics do tend to play a small role but I would say personally alot has to do with owner and environment. I disagree with you, I am around 13 boerboels daily and have never been bitten. Temperament and personality varies from dog to dog I do not find that fair to judge an entire breed.

I'm guessing this is a Male... and his score is 93%? :) There are three male South African Boerboels in the usa that all have 93% and are the highest scoring males in the U.S.A. Are you S.A.B.T or Boerboel international?
