  • nice throw by scott blair

  • lol @ tron81 so frustrated he gotta make a comment on every instance of this video on youtube come on boy, you beat us in 2010. Why you gotta make so much shit?

  • GT cheated on this play to win this game. Now they've had to vacate their 2009 ACC Championship game win(also against Clemson) for using ineligible players and are on four years probation.

  • @tron81

Uh, try again. We still have our trophy. We were asked to give it up, and said we'd appeal it. So far, there's been NO EVIDENCE that there were ineligible players used. The reason we're "in trouble" is because of the claim (by a UGA and Clemson grad, by the way) that we weren't forthcoming in helping with the investigation. So much trash.

Also, u mad bro? Mad u lost to a better team, bro? awwww, poor mad bro, whining like a little mad bro.

  • @evilkillerwhale yeah GT ignored the NCAA and told the coach about the investigation, and he told the players they were about to be questioned by the NCAA. That's what got them in the most trouble, not using the players who took illegal benefits.

  • @tron81 damn man your late!!!your just mad we OWN Clemsux!

  • @tron81 actually thats not the reason! bey bey thomas took 300 bucks worth of clothes from his cousin who was in contact with an agent!!!get it right!smh, lmao, clemson sucks, good luck against carolina bahahahahahahaha

  • Balls the size of Alaska.

  • GO GT BURNNNNNNNNNN

  • "If you've got a trick play before the game you tell them what's going to happen, and I told them," Johnson said of the officials. "If it had been illegal, they should've told us then."

The ACC higher-ups are not the brightest. It was not illegal and it was pre-approved.

  • I'm pretty sure this gave Blair one of (if not the) top QB Rating in the NCAA for most of the year since it was his only throw all year. Am I right?

  • Definitely the greatest TD I've ever seen live!!! I love how Paul Johnson is so aggressive AND smart with his play calling. I feel like every year, we're going to have one ridiculous new trick play used in this type of situation for momentum.

  • Georgia Tech's substitution was not illegal. If it was then Dabo Sweeney would have said something, the commentators and analysts would have criticized it as well. That would have lead to an investigation; and there wasn't. Clemson simply did not pay attention. Also, whoever said that it was illegal because the rulebook states that you are not allowed to substitute in order to confuse the opposing team is full of shit. Tech burned them on that play and rightfully so! Way to go Jackets!!!

  • Clemson Also did the same thing later in the game by placing a receiver on the sideline and they passed to him, which the conference said was also illegal so Clemson can't say anything.

  • it wasn't illegal, Thomas was simply getting into position, he never got off the field so clemson was tricked by the fg, not a substitution, they were not paying attention to the whole field and thats why they let this one get past them

  • it was illeagle the refs even got suspened it said on espn too. they said clemson would have won if it wasnt for the refs

  • ur just making it up...i highly doubt tht is illegal because it was the defense's fault they did not see him

  • yea it is. it says in the rules that you cannot substitute players on and off the field and hide someone to confuse a defense

  • it wasnt illegal, he never left the field

  • Thomas is a beast

  • the play was illegal gt7365. like philiater said, you cannot sub players on and off the field to confuse a defense or an opponent.

  • note also there was never a real huddle. i think that's important because if he had huddled and then jogged off like he was leaving the field, he would have had to actually leave. damn though thats messy. i bet officials would be split over this

  • although nasty, it was not a "simulated substitution", so it was legal. from the rule book: "A1 leaves the field of play during a down. Team A huddles with 10

players. Substitute A12 enters, and A2 simulates leaving the field but

sets near the sideline for a hide-out pass. RULING: Penalty—15

yards from the previous spot. This is a simulated replacement of a

    player to confuse opponents."

he also had to be set long enough for clemson to react, but he was prob standing there a long time

  • you can also make the argument that thomas was simply lining up on the far side, the fact that clemson assumed he was being subbed is their fault. tech uses several offensive players in special teams formations so its not unlikely that a few players would have stayed on the field. it was out of fg range anyways so clemson is stupid for not thinkin somethin was up

  • you can ask the reff as the beginning of the game if you can face mask the other team, if they say yes and they wont call it then under that pretext its not illegal if its not getting called. still in the rulebook but if reffs dont call shit on the rulebook whats it even there for.

imo if your reff's arent informed of the rulebook and dont know what there doing fully, why would you even have them reff? its really the reffs fault. rulebook states its illegal. cant argue that.

  • according to an official report, it was "illegal substitution", but not realized until after the game... Clemson had an illegal substitution too when they popped Spiller in from the sidelines on a 37-yard reception to set up the FG to tie.

  • what a said below applys to clemson's illegal sub as well. I know reff's cant catch everything but the whole game was filled with shotty callings. Reffs where just terrible this game, shouldnt be aloud to come back.

  • thats true. there were several other calls in that game that were controversial.

but bad refs is a part of football... sometimes it DOES effect the outcome of a game, too

  • Only because that douchebag, Butch Davis of UNC pitched a hissy fit did the ACC Commish, John Swofford, who is a little girl, made any comment. Paul Johnson TOLD the officials what he planned to do. If this was illegal, he would have been told!

  • So, ignoring how poorly worded the rule is (it seems to be outlawing 'confusion', which I'm pretty sure is the point of any trick play), it wasn't an illegal substitution because there was no substitution. Thomas never left the field.

  • Trick plays are OK as long as they don't use confusion over substitutions. There was a substitution. 10 GT players left the field and 10 GT players came in. Thomas headed out with the other 10, but stopped right at the sidelines. That's why he wasn't accounted for when the ball was snapped. If he'd stayed in the middle of the field and joined the 10 substitutes he could have moved out to his WR position legally. He went past the numbers on the field, so he has to come out with the 10.

  • @razer128 Nothing illegal about it. great play. Clemson used the same confusion against SC in 2008 with Jacoby Ford.

  • @scottyray12 no they didn't Clemson confused SC by making it look like Jacoby Ford was tying his shoes and not ready for the snap. They didn't use the substitution process. That's what makes GT's trick play illegal. They used the substitution process.

  • He was on the field the WHOLE TIME. Not illegal, just confused the defense.

  • maybe u didnt read tron81's post

"ARTICLE 2.b. No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse

    opponents"

  • It was not an illegal substitution. Bey Bey Thomas is a WR and was on the field for the 3rd down play. Thomas is also on the field goal squad as well. He just lined up in a different place on the field. So it was not a substitution.

  • This is from the NCAA rule book:

ARTICLE 2.b. No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse

opponents. No tactic associated with substitutes or the substitution

process may be used to confuse opponents (Rule 3-5-2-e) (A.R. 9-2-2-IVII)."

  • Sorry mountvernoncc1, it was a illegal substiution. Even if he was on the goal squad, it was used to confuse the defense. Which is illegal.

  • It all goes back to 5 year old football. The coaches check with the refs before the game. If they say ok, then it's ok. It's that simple.

  • Yea It was definitely illegal. Refs sucked this game. Oh and the phantom holding call 2 years in a row. And what are you talking about superior coaching?

  • GO JACKETS!!!! were gonna be 3-0 after next thurs night!!!

  • That was superior coaching, Clemson just didnt win it

  • That was an illegal substitution by GT, but the refs didn't call it.

  • just to make this straight, the fake field goal pass Tech did was NOT ILLEGAL. they brought the kicking team on the field, and our reciever STAYED ON the field. had he gone off the field and then came back on, it would've been illegal. the coach even talked to the officials before the game. it WAS NOT ILLEGAL.

  • It's illegal because that receiver headed off the field with the players being replaced. He made it look like he was being subbed but didn't leave the field. It's clearly against the NCAA rule against using the substitution process to trick the other team. The ACC refs are just stupid.

  • but he stayed on. if he had gotten off the field it would've been illegal. he never went out, so therefore it's good to go. and our coach talked to the officials before the game and told them about the play

  • The fact he may have talked to the officials about it before the game doesn't mean anything. They may not have understood what he was planning on doing. The officials were suspended for this game, and other officials and coaches have since said that it was illegal.

You can't use the sub process to trick the other team. "ARTICLE 2.b. No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse opponents" He simulated a sub by going almost off the field during a sub.

  • it was illegal even though he didnt leave the field ,he tricked the other team and that is illegal because he started to walk off but he stayed on any ways i dont see what the big deal is you guys would have won any way
