@TennisCoachno1 4th and long is an American football term. The team that is playing offense has 4 "downs" (or attempts) to get the ball past 10 yds or more depending on the situation. If the offense succeeds, they get 4 more attempts and so forth until they score. 4 & long means that the amount of yardage to get a 1st down is deemed too difficult to surpass. For example, it's 4th and 8. That means it would take 8 yds to get a 1st. Most teams would punt or kick the ball away to the other team.
