  • Filter it through a canteen, boil it for a long time, and then use a filtration straw just in case.

  • tantor the elephant says ;is this water sanitary it looks questionable to me.

  • Don't remind me...I was sick from drinking bush water...it took me over 6 months to get back to normal.

    NEVER DRINK BUSH WATER!

  • beaver fever's the worst.

  • I would run it thru some cloth, boil it, filter it, iodine it, and then have a priest bless it for good measure.

Diseases? I dont know, but some nasty stuff you don't wanna get.

  • there is plenty of wildlife so i suspect with treatment it is ok to drink,it is probably full of bacteria and human viruses that could kill you or make you really sick.if home treatment being used then there are probaly chemicals in the water also, which you cant get rid of by filtering or boiling or treating.although this may help to keep the harmful bacteria to an acceptable level.cess pits are usually sealed with no seapage into the surrounding area and are usually waterproof so no overflowing

  • beaver fever: its the shits.

  • Boil the shit out of it.

  • well in the lake district UK u can drink the stream water without a problem except ticks and leaches, but I guess u can get all sorts of nasty stuff if cess pits are leaking into it.

  • @michael6410 I would not drink water from the streams in the lakes with out boiling it for 3 mintues theres to many sheep there. I met some one who was ill for 6 months after doing so.

  • In northern sweden we drank straight from the lakes when canoeing for two weeks with no problems. Fantastic.

  • you'll probably get the shits

  • Viruses,

    bacteria

    Giardia

    Cryptosporidium

    Protozoa

If i don't plan to need water i use the MSR MIOX. It's small, light and easy to use.

  • what about weils disease?

  • Leptospirosis is a type of bacteria.

  • My first thought would be chollera, but typhoid is probably a threat as well... filter, boil, then drink if you're feeling lucky!

  • i see mr. turtle

    see comment below

  • giardia would be my main concern

i think its safe to assume all water should be boiled inless its rain water

  • e coli

    salmonella

    malaria

    yellow jondis

  • I'd make a fire by wood I found around, then take a piece of cloth, put some of the wooden charcoal and filtrate the water and then finally boil it.

that should do the trick yes no?

  • i drink water anywhere, i even drank my own pee to stay alive in a mountain i was stranded on while skydiving, aparently! i was about 600 miles off target pfft!

  • First, i would love to say thank you... the information you give is needed for all mankind..But., i ask if you can, to go more into detail. This video, only mentions that there could be diseases in the water.. Could you go more into the diseases, and then proper treatment to make the water drinkable? I am a fan of you videos, but again ask.. Please not only tell of the problems, but some solutions..

Thank you again for you edecutional videos...

  • i love your show ima kid but im very perinoid and aware i spend my money on survival gear and equipment

    thank u

  • Yea, first that comes to mind is Amebic Dysentery!

  • I would rather not drink it thankyou very much!!

  • No way on earth would I drink that water. Only after I had boiled it, and then treated it to make sure it is absolutely clean would I even consider it.

  • Did you say it is safe to drink at the beginning?

  • Also don't drink the water, you know what fish do in there? couldn't resist

  • Also parasites guys, best plan don't even try drinking.

  • their alot of different waterborne disease i think this body of water could have dysentary or mabey even e-coli

  • definetly beaver feaver

  • Giardia is what I would be most worried about, also E-Coli.

Of course I would never drink water from the wild without treating it by boiling or chemical treatment unless it was from a spring.

I would also be worried about agricultural waste such as weed killer and fertilizer.

  • Crypto Sporidium

Cholora (I'm not certain on the spelling, but those are two of the diseases quite possibly present in the water).

  • Dysentery

  • I love these videos and the requirement to think critically.

Cholera, tape-worm, trichina, various elements that cause an imbalance in the body's PH levels resulting in diarrhea and dehydration. Interruption of necessary digestive enzymes, .... Do not drink this water without using a filter that can do what a Berkey does.

  • wow i didnt know about this it is very interesting you see this is one of the reasons why i like you tube its such a great learning tool.

  • Giardia, Cryptosporidium, e coli, and any number of viruses..

  • not real perch in Texas

  • aids... thats definately aids water

  • yes, yes...of course...aids in the water..

a man was killed by a slit to the throat, which then he was thrown into the sewers to hide the body..that allows his "aids" from his blood to flow into the water in this video

lol....funny how i was thinking the same thing about aids in the water joke...(the dead man thing was an example of how the joke could be true..lol)

  • do a barrel roll

  • I subscribe to this channel. The videos used to be informative but now they are mostly just survival trivia. I never know the answer, but I get no chance to learn because I have no idea where the answer is posted. Can the answer be posted somewhere so that those of us that don't want to participate in the trivia and would just like to know the answer to important questions can go and get it?

  • If you needed to fill a canteen with that water, you would just need to drop a couple of iodine tablets in the canteen with the water. Wait about 30 minutes, and the water would be safe for drinking. It might look nasty, but if you could drink it.

The tablets would not kill any bacteria but would coat it so it could safely pass through your body.

  • i thought you made a trip to SC when the vid first poped up. he have this water everywhere. to answer the question Heck NO you can't drink it. when you are around this type of water the smell of it gives great warning not to drink it. i'll tell you whats in it... the "sick" from the last guy that tried to drink it... the "sick" from both ends.

  • nice very nice

  • probily parasites and get you sick with maybe dyaria

  • you would get hikers disaeses

  • cant wait for more videos

  • Amebiasis, cholera, Giardiasis, Cryptoporidiosis, isoporsis, cyckosporiasis, balantidiosis (if pigs and septic tank leakage are present) too many else to list.

IF anything does happen (natural disaster/ man made) be sure to have a strong anti protozoan drugs in addition to everything else.

  • For ranger... Animals have been drinking water like that for a very long time.

Passive Immunity from the parent animal (that might have had the diseases that were in the water) and active immunity (from when the animal drank in while still young helped its immune system develop antibodies to help combat MOST pathogen in the water.

  • Why are animals able to safely drink out of ponds like this and people can not?

  • Humans have a less offensive immune system.

  • because we have a different digestive system but it could make certain animals temporarily sick.

  • animals have built up a resistance to it

  • Why can't we do the same? Like with live virus vaccines?

  • You got a pretty good zoom too. good video.

    5 star

  • I wouldn't be as concerned about the sewage as other things. In most circumstances mircobial life and other life that filter the water. Your not gona drink water anywhere wild that doesn't have pee and poo in it. I would be worried about stagnetation, viruses, and chemicals that may have gone down people drains.

  • no joke aids.

sewage carried into water may contain aids:)

  • U are a moron. HIV can only survive outside the body for 2 seconds.

  • the water is still, and not flowing, so the uv in the sun hit it asmuch, like underneath. so id say its a bad idea to drink from.

  • Those Gators would be hard to drink.

  • good to see more videos!

  • NO,,,cholera, dysentery

  • Five Star

  • You could drink the water. but you would first want to filter it through a sock or cloth several times and then boil it to kill the bad stuff. Also....you could dig a spring close to it that the rocks would filter enough to be safe.

  • I had to rewind to see the turtle. Do those ever get eaten? And if so how are they?

  • E Coli, Giardia, etc... Bad stuff. Filter, boil, and then filter again before drinking.

  • koodies!!! yuck

  • I don't know what your situation is Kev.. but you gotta make videos more often! :-D

  • Five Stars!!

  • MSR MiniWorks EX will take care of it... if ya really want to get anal about it add a few drops of bleach

  • Whatever is in the waste stream will end up in there. You could get all sorts of metals, medications, and toxins that are water soluble. E-coli bacter will probably be the most prevalent from the human waste stream.

  • Amoebiasis ,Cryptosporidiosis Cyclosporiasis, Giardiasis Microsporidiosis, Schistosomiasis dracunculiasis, taeniasis solium, fasciolopsis, hymenolepiasis nana, hyatidosis, coenurosis, ascariasis, enterobiasis, Botulism, Campylobacteriosis , Cholera , Chronic granulomatous disease , Diarrheal disease due to E. coli. Dysentery , Legionellosis, Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Vibrio illness, also one or two dozen viral infections like hep a and polio.

  • damn someone did their homework

  • Just a bit, takes 5 minutes on the net. And I have been watching Ray Mears and Les Stroud for years, met Les once.

  • Crocs in Texas? I didn't know that.

I think most of the diseases have been covered. Boiling and filtering get rid of a lot of problems, but they don't always get everything. There are some parasite cysts that can withstand boiling for several minutes. Make sure you let it boil long enough before you drink it!

  • Giardia, cholera, polio and a lot of other infections including stomach infections or worms

  • im sure that there could be hepatitis or some other funk and gunk

but yeah just boil it really good and you be okay

  • Giardia, Cholera, worms, and the little flat things that are whiteish clearish that I can't remember the name to. typhoid, hepatitis, polio, staph, dysentery, camilobachter, lysteria, crystosperydium etc etc.

  • Kev is a PHD in Survival.

  • I'm thinking Giardia

  • Cholera

  • Diseases are: typhoid, tetanus, cholera, hepatitis, polio. I just looked at another video you did on waterborne diseases, heh, heh. There are other microbes like Giardia that may be present which can cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pathogens pathogenic to humans that may be in animal fecal matter and runoff are continually added.

  • camilobachter lystyria cryptosperydium staph the list goes on and on.

  • Dysentery is a big possibility.

  • Oh, I forgot: Urinary tract infection.

  • Whoa! That looks like gator water!

  • well if u filter it and boil it well , it will be drinkable, unless there are any chemicals in it, thats the fear with water found in the wilderness, you nevere really know if any sort of chemicals were dumped into it or not, only if animals are drinking it i would presume it would be good for you as well, however eating plants that animals eat are not safe, some animals eat poisonous plants that does nothing to them but would kill a human being

  • cryptosporidium, Giardiasis,

No would not be drinking that straight. It isn't moving and is close to septic tanks.

Filter it, boil it and/or treat it with purification tablets.

  • Yeah I agree even if there isn't any overflow of sewer material it does look unclean and I would expect maybe diarrhea or throwing up if it is dirty.

  • might be an amoeba for two in there, possibly some worms

  • i dont think its very safe to drink because the water doesnt look like its moving to quickly and it just sits there and gets stagnant
