He probably lied to everybody, including his attorney, but those conversations will never be heard, as they are protected between him and Tacopina.
I don't think he is a pimp or heavily involved in human trafficking by any stretch of the imagination. This is my theory: he killed Natalee Holloway intentionally and disposed of the body somewhere. However, once the admission came to light, he retracted because he knew this kind of admission would possibly subject him to criminal liability. Then, when he spoke with Greta, he said she was sold into slavery to limit his own responsibility further.
And as for Stephany , it’s too early to tell why he did this. But, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he did kill this girl. Yes, and obviously it is all just a personal theory of mine, and it all comes down to the same premise; he killed Natalee Holloway intentionally and wanted the fact that she was dead to be known. He probably wanted it to be known for a personal sense of closure, possibly out of fear of the case reopening, once he learned that you don't need a body to be convicted of murder. He probably wanted to preemptively cover his tracks, knowing that this problem was not going away.

I don't think he is a pimp or heavily involved in human trafficking by any stretch of the imagination. Some may dispute it because there was some video of him speaking with a couple Thailand prostitutes. If you ever see the video, it might show Joran as being this kind of underworld, seedy character, involved in some criminal enterprise. But overall, it's just a sketchy clip which does not prove anything about Joran's involvement, if any, in human trafficking.

When Greta says that if Natalee was sold into slavery, that she may still be alive even though the possibility is remote, he says, "Very small..." He knows for sure that Natalee is dead, and I believe he somehow wants for this fact to surface because he himself wants the mystery to be over, but he doesn't want to face the consequences over it. He later retracts the idea that he sold her into slavery once realizing that he could still face liability for murder for being involved in it.

When he spoke with Vries initially, he was trying to alleviate his social responsibility by saying it was accidental. However, once the admission came to light, he retracted because he knew this kind of admission would possibly subject him to criminal liability. Then, when he spoke with Greta, he said she was sold into slavery to limit his own responsibility further.
