  • ahhaha. i get it. Robby HANDley (waves)

  • That may be the ugliest P-bass I've ever seen.

  • Any demo of this stack played with a decent modern bass?

  • HOW ARE YOU MENT TO KNOW HOW IT SOUNDS IF YOUR WATCHING THIS LISTENING TO IT THROUGH SHIT SPEAKERS ?????

  • I like to hear the amp not the DI!

  • @Bassndrumboy20 You are, the amp has no DI, its just the camera mic you can hear

  • que hueva me das cabron

  • Mesa is the best, just not affordable for the everyday musician......the Ultimate Amp endorsement!

  • Acoustic Bass Amps sound better than this. Geez, where's the classic tube sound in this? No where to be found..

  • @soundgear99 I love my Acoustic B600h and two B410 cabs : ) guitar player hates it though he used to try and drownd me out on purpose and cant now lol

  • This video is my "go to" reference to demonstrate why I detest Orange amps for bass, even vintage ones. For anybody who thinks this is good tube tone do yourself a favour and play a vintage Hiwatt (my preference) or vintage SVT (hell even a modern VR!) and learn what Valve Bass amplification can be.

  • color and look is great... but soundwise is crap.

  • Did he mention "dirty"? isn't this a BASS amp! IMHO this bass amp sounds like total ASS!

  • I'd love an Orange bass amp for the studio.

  • Can an Ampeg SVT-CL get those same dirty tones? Chris Steele (Alexisonfire bassist) used to use one of these orange amp heads and an Ampeg 810 cab. He now uses an SVT-CL and he gets those same dirty tones as this amp yet when I play an SVT-CL I cant get anything near this gained up. Help?

  • @CrankTheBass98 pedals -.-

  • @jamesrt2004 he doesnt use any pedals, so dont give me that look :P

  • I want that bass

  • This or the Ampeg SVT?

  • @StephenFiorentini I say SVT.

  • I became facebook friends with Glenn Cornick (yeah, I know) and he said the 'lack of quality' of equipment back in the day is what have him his distinct bohemian tone. He used thin and sealed marshall cabs (even the slanted 4x12 guitar cab) -- no vents, no tweets, no horns.

  • @toecutterr6 Did you say no tweets? twitter.com

  • that is a lot of cabinets behind him O_O imagine all of that going through one head

  • @Tuba408Bass i think they are just the front, no speakers or the rest of the cabinet.

  • @pfarina haha, that would make a lot more sense. Imagine all the power that would come through all those if it was all hooked up to Victor wooten or something

  • i have heard up right through a lot of different amps this one sounds the best

  • Ok so i am kinda new to equipment and how it all works. My big question is why would i want to get this 200W amp, when i could get the orange tiny terror 1000W amp for a lil more then half the price of the AD200B? Thanks for any help

  • @Indremafan

you will hear the difference. watt is watt.

if it was about power you could buy a dirt devil or something.

anyway the ad200 is atleast as loud as the terrorbass1000.

  • @Indremafan the reason why the ad 200 as a high price tag is its an all tube amp in the terror bass only the preamp section has tubes everything else is solid state (transistors instead of tubes) but befor you buy eather go to a guitar store that has both try them both out and if you dont like them then try something else untill you find the one you want and make sure that when your tring amps bring your own bass or use one in the store tht is closest to it

  • @southparkfan1999 Actually, solid state amps are pretty awesome, too. Before I got to buy my Ampeg SVT CL, I had a G&K GT400 RB-II and its tone was sweet, i ownly sold it because it couldn't handle overdrive pedals for some mysterious reason.

  • @powerLOCKE110 well G&K make some of the best solid state amps i'm not gonna lie about that in fact if i get and solid state amp head it will be a G&K

  • @southparkfan1999 Are you serious? Worst company I've delt with, I had three of their 600rb's.. Within the first two months the gain setting shorted/ fuse blown.. etc Awful amps, and even then, I would never purchase one again, there are much better sounds out there in a lot of different amps. But I guess if that makes you happy, that's your choice. just saying, I've never had so much irritating trouble with a company. their cust service and can suck my dick too, those guys know nothing,

  • @Nutsazballs thanks for the warning do you know of any other good amps besides ampeg and orange

  • @southparkfan1999 The Eden WTB300V has a great tone to it. I tried one out beside an Ampeg and the Eden was richer sounding.

  • @southparkfan1999 I use swr, found an old pre fender x series for 200$ retails at 1000$ people sell good stuff sometimes for cheap just ebay it up my man, I recommend swr but through my findings and my personal sound I think for touring, studio, and all around the terror bass is where it's at, keep a look out for the 1000 watt version too if you're feelin crazy. Really anything has good sound, just look into things, research your sound. Also... check out the 6.0 shuttle. Genz benz. Happy hunting

  • @Nutsazballs thanks for the info

  • @Nutsazballs ...Genz Benz?.....yuk. Genz Benz sounds way to sterile for me. I like an amp with some warmth.

SWR murders Genz Benz in sound quality!

  • @delitemyheart Genz Benz is what you put in, you get out. It responds much better to pedals like the Sansamp BDDI and VT bass than most other setups.

  • @tylerwylie perhaps that is true. But still..i wouldn't buy a genz because for me its just too sterile. I like a bit of warmth and character, which genz seem to lack. If you want the best sounding digital amp..buy a TC electronic setup. TC's RH450 is awesome..and their latest staccato 51 is even better. The next amp i buy will be the TC staccato 51 with TC's 2x12 and 2x10 cab. This way a can use either or ither cab or both cabs together. Depending on what i need at a gig...

  • @delitemyheart I've used an RH450, albeit just once and I didn't get to play around with it but I was able to get my sound with my MM Bongo 6 HH and BDDI into the tube channel of the Genz Benz(which I wouldn't say is 'sterile')ShuttleMax 12.0 and blended in a little bit of the FET channel as well. It may be true that the Shuttle amps which feature only a FET channel may sound sterile, I haven't use one of those yet though :)

  • @tylerwylie Yeah but man you cant really look at it that way. You can do the same thing to a lot of other amps too and you will get better results also. The way to test it is to have all the setting's on the benz flat. Try that and you will see what the benz is really made of..

  • @delitemyheart And if you want the amp to color your tone, there are amplifiers for that, if you want an amplifier that provides little to no coloration of the tone, there's Genz Benz. We're really just arguing about subjective opinion now on what people want out of their amplifiers. The ShuttleMax 12.0 with blended channels lets you get some very interesting combinations as well. Have you tried using the tube channel on a Genz Benz? Or looked at the Streamliner series?

  • @tylerwylie NO not arguing lol. Personally i like a bit of coloration in terms of warmth and articulation. And thats why i love any ampeq amp, Ashdown's ABM EVO 3 and some SWR models aswell. All these amps are colored with great warmth & articulation. Benz on the other hand sound big & powerful..but yet sound kind of thin. Because they have no warm articulated coloration. Ive had a go of the shuttle max 6.0 & 9.0 and i don't like..

  • @delitemyheart Look at the reviews for the Streamliner, Genz Benz does that sort of thing too.

One reason I like pairing a VT Bass or Sansamp BDDI pedal with the Genz Benz amp, it just produces something of a monster in terms of tone. And then I can have a pristine clean tone if desired, with a pretty versatile EQ and channel / channel blend selection.

  • @tylerwylie Dude C'mon..the streamliner ain't much different from the shuttle max. The only real difference is it has less knobs. Forget about pedals man. We are not talknig about pedal's. Now which benz amps have you played???

And what is a VT bass???

  • @delitemyheart The streamliner is very different, the tone is very different than their other offerings. I've played the 9.0 and 12.0. The VT Bass is a pedal offering which is part of Sansamp's character series. It's always included with my rig and in my FX loop. With my old amplifiers(Marshall MB series, GK) I actually just ended up bypassing the preamp and plugging it into the FX return.

  • @delitemyheart For the price that shuttle 6.0 is awesome, just saying for the people in need of a solid sound for a reasonable price you know? I haven't been too satisfied with SWR, but they do sound good enough for me, i've been using an amp head of theirs for a while now, how are their cabs? I haven't really found anything that tops MESA gear though. Seriously, ampeg svt's, orange's, high end fender, you name it

  • @Nutsazballs Yeah ive heard great things about mesa..but never tried one out. SWR cabs are good..but i wouldn't say they are better than ampeq. I heard that SWR own fender amps, so i guess top end fender amps & SWR amps would both sound great...

  • @delitemyheart Yeah man fender actually bought out SWR in the year 2000. I happened to acquire a pre-fender swr head that i'm currently using from 1999. To me, fender douched swr so anything before 2000 in IMO sounds better. They still build them the same way schematically, but with minor adjustments., it's just not so hands on anymore. fender brought in the "mass production" type shit. Mesa is where the bees knees is at, nothing really compares anymore. I've tried it all in local shops & at GC

  • @Nutsazballs ohh so fender bought out swr?..Ok. Id like to try a mesa setup if i could. But i thought they only make all tube heads. Is that true or do they have solid state heads aswell???

What is it about mesa that you like so much???

  • @delitemyheart Most Mesa/Boogie bass heads are Hybrid (Tube Preamp, Solid State Power) if i remember correctly they havent made much in the way of all tube for bass, only the Bass 400, 400+ And Strategy from what i remember, the rest are mostly hybrids

  • @southparkfan1999 Don't get an Ampeg! Unless its an older one, the new ampeg stuff isn't worth the price, but its still decent gear just mostly overpriced. And they have TERRIBLE customer service now, they have scrapped all the orginal people from the last 10 or so years who or all great, and knew their stuff, Now its a load of clueless people!

  • @AttitudeCastle thanks but ampeg isnt the only one even gibson and fender are putting out pure shit because they dont know what they are doing

  • with fingers it sounds great!! cool bass btw. :)

  • the orignal bassit of weezer used orange

  • To the people complaining about this amp sounding crappy. I urge you to try one out or go to a show with one. I watched a band who was using that setup (AD200B+410+115) and his tone was amazing.

  • Audio fail

    xD

  • seriously, who the hell would play an upright through a 200 watt bass stack? if that were ever to feedback your bass as well as your chest cavity would explode.

  • To me this just doesn't sound good. It sounds like a bass being played through a guitar amp. Just my opinion though, to each his own. Typically Orange makes great amps.

  • sounds like crap

  • I like orange don't get me wrong but I did not like this sound on this video.

  • out of sync much?

  • Please Dear GOD let me hit the lottery. I'll make that backdrop look like a practice amp.

  • I'm sold. I want an Orange amp now. That's the best sounding distortion I've heard out of an amp for a long time

  • @oakraid83 Couldn't agree more!

  • Damn, that thing sounds incredible.

  • this guys fuckin hammered

  • All tube bass amps are such harsh mistresses. They weigh a ton, cost a king's ransom to acquire and you have to keep paying for them every few years when replacing the expensive tubes. 200-300 watt tube amps usually cost over $200 bucks for tubes. Oh....but the tone. So sweet and syrupy.

  • Great demo, great sounds, horrible price. Oh well, you gotta pay for quality.

  • I was just reading that Geddy Lee is using these for Rush's 2010 tour. I find that pretty cool.

  • love his intro. hi, i'm robbie handly...with his hand

  • roundwound strings?

  • @stikhi no, those are flatwounds..

  • @bassbymichele wow....

  • great simple bass grooves

  • I so want to play some Motörhead with this amp!

  • who knows how this compares to an SVT-CL...or is it apples to oranges? no pun intended

  • Dyu think he always whips his hand out when he says Handley? 0:39

  • do you know the cabs being used in this vid?

  • @Funkyskunk01 Orange OBC410 and OBC115

  • I want that thing.

  • i really love your bass!! what modell is this??

  • Woah! The very dirty sounds sexy!

  • how is the slap on this amp? anyone could help me? he is a good bassist but does not go into detail. How are active basses on this amp? wat are the settings he uses for the double bass???

  • 0:40 Im Robbie Handley!!!

  • God damn... I can't even begin to describe how much better this guy is than the guitar demo man for Orange. Not to slight that guy, he's pretty good, it's just... wow...

  • i have a simpler amp

  • whats a good old school heavy metal bass amp? lookin for something with a head suggestions?

  • @gunmanvb2 not to be a weiner, but try a bass forum, you'll get lots of perspective on other amps there.

I have the AD200B, and I'm not sure it would work well but what you want. Listen to Converge, that's what they use for bass tones.

  • Great bass, great amp, freak dude.

  • if you listen to this demo through a good pair of headphones it makes a HUGE difference!

  • has anyone heard anything about the new 50 watt orange crush bass amp ? i really wanna buy one. i played it and its loud as balls. if i plugged it into a 4X10 do you think it would be suitable for shows? thanks !

  • Shit, this was not a good demo.

Got my AD200B yesterday, it's awesome.

  • Orange is great, this demo is the worst on the net. Does anyone know a good demo elsewhere. I own the Orange stack and the Ampeg SVT + 8 x 10. Ampeg is smoother and better and more punchy + way louder. Orange are really cool, best build quality ever but Ampeg wins, and you may even have a couple bucks left for a milkshake. AMPEG!!! SORRY ORANGE.

  • youtube sound compression makes it sound like a bad DI ^^ try it in a shop.. this video is useless :/

  • Yeah, but sometimes it's still great just to hear some gear that I may never have a chance to play.

  • Comment removed

  • so should i get this or the ampeg svt classic or svt vr?

  • Ampeg svt vr...the best :)

  • 70s blue line ampegs are the best the new ampeg stuff is shit!!! Viet Nam shit

  • I have a great sound with the VR made in USA...but the original 70s is the best...you have it?

  • yes i have an original blue line.. ive been told its a 69 or a 70 (i believe its a 70). it has the 6146 power tubes in it. i miss it so much right now its in the shop getting some new tubes in it. i will post a video once i get it back from the shop

  • i tried this at guitar center and creamed my pants, about 11 times one cream right after the other.. yeah this video makes it sounds like complete fucking ass, idk how they possibly made the amp sound this BAD. in the store, i've never heard better bass tone come from me in my entire life

  • this video does not do the amp justice!!! ive just recieved it today and i must say its a lot more brighter than this. its a really good rock bass amp.

  • horn?

  • beautiful amp and beautiful p bass!!!!!!!!!!

  • When I hear an amp demo, I tend to imagine how the sound of it would work in a mix. With a loud drummer, guitar and vocals I don't see how this amp is good in a live setting, it lacks definition. I feel like this amp subtracts a lot of character from an instrument, so the unique sound of my bass would be lost.

  • That's a gorgeous bass with a gorgeous amp.

  • what kind of bass is that

  • @24mideastbeast its a vintage fender pbass lookes late 60's early 70's

  • pretty basic, I choose carlsbro above this orange fer sure =O

  • does orange make all tube amps? cause they all kick a massive quantity-o-ass!

  • is that distortion coming from the preamp gain or is it from the power amp section of the amplifier being pushed with the master volume?

  • KT88!!!!!!!

  • dude the sound is behind the picture

  • Great demonstration and fantastic tones from a deceptively simple amp design. To this day, with all of the advancements in amp technology, a p-t-p, hand wired, all tube bass amp still sounds better than anything else out there. Why do you think that the solid state, MOSFET, analog and digital amps try to emulate the way tube amps sound? 'Nuff said....

  • That amp doesnt get dirty. It gets downright filthy. Love it.

  • Great demo, enough playing to show amp's ability...but not to the point that I want to put it on mute lol.... but does anyone else notice that he kinda looks like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite but w/ longer hair??

  • Really fucking hate the way he talks! The way he breathes in every 4 seconds! Holy shit!

  • i really wish they would fix the syncing problem

  • yeah its funny when he picks becouse as he strums notes tare ringing out

  • What Cabs are those??

  • The cabs the amp is hooked up to are an OBC 410 and 115. The ones in the back are PPC 412 guitar cabs.

  • great demo..the dude is not there to show off by the way..he's showing the amp with different tones, and he's doing a great job.If you want to see bozos jerking off with a bass, keep looking, there's plenty of that on youtube.

  • @jeansbass

Or, they could just go to Guitarworld's channel. Seriously, al the demos seem to value the playing over showing what the gear can do, and so you end up losing sight of what said gear actually has the potential to sound like. Your right in every sence of the word. Orange guys making the demo must surely realise this, and don't do all the flashy gimmiky stuff that's littered across other demos.

    Great demo, great amp.

  • @jeansbass Hahah, jerking off.

  • Damn I wish I could try that rig out.... I play a Mesa 400+ and the damn head is taking my back out. lol

  • The Stack is awesome! I played it once and was amazed by its natural and clear sound! Thanks for the review.

  • Wow, TM Stevens :-)

  • yeah i just noticed that they werent using a mic

  • i think for the cats who know what they are looking for, this amp is the shizznit . i personally think that using stomp boxes for bass distortion is completely retarded . it's much more musical to get the distortion from those tubes .anyway plus warmth is the one thing that 99% of the amps out there are lacking,it is too bad that they cost so much but so do les pauls and chapmasticks and rickenbackers, oh well if you make a living playing it's worth it

  • could not agree more.

  • he is no that bad, he's no jaco, and thats appraent. however, i have played that bass amp and it really kicks some major ass

  • I'm RozzaSAFC; I'm an ignorant prick who is insecure about myself.

  • shit bass, go to sleep robbie xD

  • I have that amp and I can say it sounds amazing! The dude is not there to impress people..he is trying to play different styles just to show how that amp can sounds like...believe me, an Orange AD200B is one of the best tube amp available today..much better than anything made by Viet-ampeg!!!!

  • I agree with jeansbass. Why are people knocking the bass player? I'd be cautious about anything from Ampeg post 2007. Their crap, I mean products are now manufactured in Vietnam, but Ampeg's still charging the same amount as if they were still made in the U.S. Tragic...

  • as far as it comes to cabinets, you're not right. I did an A/B test of Ampeg SVT 410HLF cabinet, one made in USA and the other in Vietnam (I've bought it afterwards). Ther was no difference. I am pretty sure that you're one of the guys from bass forums that talk about something that you're never heard or played. Come on, companies like Ampeg or so cannot let to decrease their quality, couse it will lead to huge sales drop. I don't care if it was made in the US by a bunch of immigrants as far as

  • it kicks as and is reliable. And my Ampeg is -I played a lot of gigs, both indoor and outdoor and It has never let me down. So if you say "their crap" you simply don't know what you're talking about man.

  • if he's a pro bassist im worried for the industry

  • This guy really sucks at bass.

  • badly mic'd, crappy settings, etc. Sounds nothing like the original 200 watter

  • It is probably D/I'd. There is no mic in front of the cab.

  • Probably. It just sounds kind of flat and, with no disrespect to the player, farty. It's difficult to really showcase the sound and volume of the amp without a bit of room ambiance as reference.

  • the dirty parts would sound soooo much better if he didn't have flats on his p bass

  • My Kustom Is Better!

  • NIce but unless i am mistaken, clean is not it's best attribute. It is a nice amp but I prefer the sound of Fenders TB-600 Pro which to me seems to have more tonal options, but then to be fair I have only heard Orange amps on clips on my PC so bear that in mind, I might be wrong. Just my impression.

  • I'm considering buying the Fender TBP-1 Bass Preamp myself. I have a old 66 Fender Bassman Combo that I love to death. I believe the preamps in the new Fender Amps are modeled after these.

  • Hm...

I wonder if I'd just be better off painting another amp orange. I still want to try one, even if it is damn expensive.

  • how it costs?!

  • amazing!

  • it is the demo that sucks...not the amp

  • awesome

  • Looks cool. But I hate to say this video makes the amp sound like a load of rubbish. The 70's SVT blows this amp away. SORRY!!! But it's a fact. Plus ORANGE is way over priced.

  • are they even using a mic? they might be over priced but i am still going to get a TT.

  • If this were say 1.5k I might be inclined to get one or two, but at 2k it's just not worth it. Some great amps can be had for less than 1 Bill if you know what to look for. Decent amp, and this demo sounds pretty bad btw.

  • This video does not even show a LITTLE what this amp could do. It's not even mic'd.. horrible! I've this head paired wirth ampeg 8x10 and it's pure, EARTH SHAKIN' - believe me. I've had seventies ampeg svt and this thing is A LOT warmer tone. (think - old ampeg = mid-trebley sounds, orange ad200 - low-mid sounds). Anyway, it's very BASSY - i play with fender precision and with ampeg cab set the bass to "1" :)

Once again - this bass is too sweet to record it from slave out... :/

  • I have one of these. Don't be put off by the dirt, if you are. You can get a very clean tone a loud levels too.

It's fat and warm and needs hardly any EQing, particularly if you have a decent bass. I use mine with a US Fender Precision.

  • lots of lag towards end

  • Nice. But I think and old 70's SVT sounds way better. I actually had a chance to nA/B and thought the AMPEG was far superior. Now that may not go for a new AMPEG SVT. Haven't had a chance to compare that.

  • well the line out works;)

  • For a white guy...he's got the funk

  • funk is in the fingers not the skin

  • @mwright165 Amen!

  • want to get one of these bad boys to go with my Ampeg Cab

  • I bought one of those and it sounds fantastic!

one of the warmest bass tone I've ever heard. Not super powerfull but to my knowledge, more than enough for most stages...on the biggest of stges, you should be able to have monitors quite amazing anyways...

  • sounds like shit
