whether you like the band or not, Nirvana did what no grunge band did, which was take Grunge and add a pop sensibility to it. That's why they got famous, because they had hooks and stuff while also keeping the essence of Grunge. Sure, Mudhoney did the same thing, but their guitar is way too distorted. And other than that, most grunge bands were striaght punk or sludge metal sounding. So really, Nirvana did a lot for the music scene by making an opening for alternative rock bands to get some sort
of mainstream recognition. In fact, Nirvana's popularity affected everything from Alternative rock, to death metal, and hell if it wasn't for them, all these new "alternative"(notice the quotations) and screamo bands wouldn't be around. Again, if you don't like them or their style of music, that's your opinion. But they were a great band and did more for music than any band has since 1993. So get over it and you're not cool for dissing bands. I mean really.
You're absolutely right. it is my opinion. The truth is, Nirvana did do a lot for music. It does not make it good. Kaopectate did a lot for diahrrea, but it doesn't mean crap smells better.
Grunge was lame, and died out as quickly as Kurt did with a shotgun blast to the face. It was a FAD. I'm not dissing bands. Nirvana does not even exist anymore. Does the remaining members still play "grunge"? Nope. They moved on, you should too. Wake up and smell the millenium, and for God sake, stop crying.
Grunge was a fad. In fact it's really just hardcore punk. But it's better than what's popular now. And really, mainstream music has been nothing but fads. But I'd pick grunge way before I picked the stupid emo shit that's around now or before glam metal. I'm a metalhead myself(death metal, thrash, etc.) but I appreciate the grunge era and dissing it because you don't like it is just immature. Even people like David Bowie and bob Dylan have said grunge was a good era.
And no one's crying about it. in fact grunge is making a comeback. Mudhoney's newest album sold more than a lot of their past few albums, Soundgarden just got back together, Pearl Jam's still goin strong, and Green River just got back together recently. And the remaining members did play grunge: Krist played in Flipper and Dave played in Foo Fighters, which originally was closer to Nirvana than anything for their first few albums.
Pearl Jam went as mainstream as they come, Soundgarden was popular for a minute. Nobody has heard of Flipper, and Foo fighters have done 6 albums with nothing "THAT" great on it.
and grunge really is making a comeback. MTV is slowly moving away from the whole emo, screamo, metalcore thing and going towards more indie type stuff. And since grunge pretty much got indie popular, the bands could easily get big again. Whether you like them or not, Soundgarden was very popular during their run and could definitely make a comeback, Pearl Jam didn't become mainstream at all, and Mudhoney has shown they could easily appeal to multiple music trends.

I have a great life. Been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, unlike most of the bands you mention. I agree noise is crappy, just as crappy as most of the bands you mentioned, especially Nirvana.

whether you like the band or not, Nirvana did what no grunge band did, which was take Grunge and add a pop sensibility to it. That's why they got famous, because they had hooks and stuff while also keeping the essence of Grunge. Sure, Mudhoney did the same thing, but their guitar is way too distorted. And other than that, most grunge bands were striaght punk or sludge metal sounding. So really, Nirvana did a lot for the music scene by making an opening for alternative rock bands to get some sort

Again, if you don't like them or their style of music, that's your opinion. But they were a great band and did more for music than any band has since 1993. You're absolutely right. it is my opinion. The truth is, Nirvana did do a lot for music. It does not make it good. Kaopectate did a lot for diahrrea, but it doesn't mean crap smells better.
Grunge was lame, and died out as quickly as Kurt did with a shotgun blast to the face. It was a FAD. I'm not dissing bands. Nirvana does not even exist anymore. Does the remaining members still play "grunge"? Nope. They moved on, you should too. Wake up and smell the millenium, and for God sake, stop crying.

Grunge was a fad. In fact it's really just hardcore punk. But it's better than what's popular now. And really, mainstream music has been nothing but fads. But I'd pick grunge way before I picked the stupid emo shit that's around now or before glam metal. I'm a metalhead myself(death metal, thrash, etc.) but I appreciate the grunge era and dissing it because you don't like it is just immature. Even people like David Bowie and bob Dylan have said grunge was a good era.

And no one's crying about it. in fact grunge is making a comeback. Mudhoney's newest album sold more than a lot of their past few albums, Soundgarden just got back together, Pearl Jam's still goin strong, and Green River just got back together recently. And the remaining members did play grunge: Krist played in Flipper and Dave played in Foo Fighters, which originally was closer to Nirvana than anything for their first few albums.

and grunge really is making a comeback. MTV is slowly moving away from the whole emo, screamo, metalcore thing and going towards more indie type stuff. And since grunge pretty much got indie popular, the bands could easily get big again. Whether you like them or not, Soundgarden was very popular during their run and could definitely make a comeback, Pearl Jam didn't become mainstream at all, and Mudhoney has shown they could easily appeal to multiple music trends.

sure, you could be in a metal band and be very successful like metallica, but it takes A LOT more hard work, and even then you have to sacrifice pretty much all of your underground roots to become mainstream(unless you're a nu metal band or traditional heavy metal).
And rap is a fad. People didn't think it was cool to walk around in oversized clothes with huge necklaces until rap got big.

So tell me, what do you consider good music? And a band's lifespan doesn't mean shit. Look at the yardbyrds, they were amazing but were only around for less than 10 years. And The Doors.
