I have respect for this choir and for there treble sound. But there are parts where i would have loved to hear more bass and tenor. The text speaks of a man longing and dreaming of his lover. I have sung this song and loved it and its OBVIOUS this choir knows what the hell its doing.
They most certainly did. Only eight men??? EIGHT??? I'm even more impressed now. I left a message a year ago, and nothing has diminished how I feel about this recording. The women are gorgeous.
Seriously, those eight men really did a wonderful job. Congratulations, this is one of the best performances of this song on YouTube. The tempo and everything was well done!
As a bass/baritone I will say this: When singing in an ensemble it's all about balance and blend, especially with this song. I'm sorry, the bass sound is not what is important here otherwise the basses would have had a higher dynamic.
I sang this in the Flint Central Madrigal back in High School. Still, to this day, one of my favorite pieces to sing. Brought a smile to my face to hear it.
Absolutely stunning- truly exceptional singing. The dynamics, the blend, intonation....the emotional feel from the choir....the sopranos are absolutely first rate...all are far better than your typical high school choir. Just beautiful.
Aight all u bass haters. The mic here is right next to sopranos, which is the farthest from the basses. And little 15 year old boy, we had 3 all state basses here, including me. God u know nothing.
no we did not do this in cali, we did a jubilant song, of a rose and alle heit... we never did this one at a comp. other then u.i.l we went to new york this year.
as far as not being able to hear the basses as much as YOU may have wanted, i would like to inform you that this peice was written to showcase the treble sound, or in other words its it treble dominate you fool!
@Eagles13792 Thats such a huge fail I don't even want to go into it lmao The bass line to this song is absolutely gorgeous. As is every part. I'm not picking on you, but remember that in a choir, the most important part is all the parts, and right after everyone comes the basses, tenors, altos, and then sopranos. The sound needs a harmonic balance from the bass upwards. Aka Bass>tenor>alto>soprano in terms of the sound they produce. And you should listen to the bass line to this song. it rocks
Uh...no offense but that higher key really takes away from the ethereal nature of the piece. This rendition is just too sugary for me. And basses are pretty weak. Sopranos are too shiny. Good job on the tenors' part though. Altos: quiet down.
Sugary???? I could not disagree more. These girls are connecting with the text in a way that few high school sopranos do. Altos quiet down?? lol The basses are not weak at all....but that's been covered here already.
All the harmonic dissonance that makes this piece great is gone because of the higher key! The text suggests a heckuva lot more warmth which is not shown here from the women. Also, the tenor's counter-melody is drowned out by the sopranos, which further ruins the harmonic dissonance.
Best version I've yet.

My voice is in this recording.
In our defense, we had 67 members in our choir, only EIGHT of which were men.
I think they held up pretty good :]]
