its funny... I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid and I have absolutely NO idea what it was about. I'll have to check it out on Netflix. But I definitely remember that intro... what a crazy intro... coming from Outer Space and shit!! How it must've shaped my young mind...
I nostalgia'd so hard watching this, I went out and bought the entire series on DVD. Me and my 8-year old nephew have watched the first 5 or 6 episodes together, and he's hooked - already knows the theme song. Quality never gets old.
@IzzyWizzy1982 That is so harsh, but ALL so very TRUE. I'm an 80s baby myself ('82 to be exact) and I remember this theme like it was just yesterday, but I must admit I didn't catch very many of the episodes, but this theme was/is so darn catchy that is has stuck with me for 15 years now. Smh, lol Awwwwwww, the memories and oh how I miss my moments in my childhood... :-D ---> :-(
@ChrisAshtear Really Chris? I wonder if they air it somewhere out there in TVLAND. lol I'll keep an eye out for it because there is NO MISTAKING the lyrics, music, or song. I really liked this show when I was younger, but it did not stay on the air for very long in the late 80s.
I was about 4 when this was broadcast in the 80's and I can only remember the tune and the odd parts of the intro bits...but the tune was that good that I used to sing it to myself and today I still remember it from back then. I had to look it up now Im 28 and I still love the intro tune. Cool. :)
I am pretty sure I had to watch this before duck tales came on when I was a kid. 2 hours of searching and I finally found out what this show was. Random memories can be annoying.
@TheJosborn7 Yep the eventually find it but a weird race of Alien highly advanced in technology controls them and at the end it all melt into the sea....or something like....It's been a long long time.
No joke, I'm not making anything up. This cartoon was weird at time.
Happy days, i forget the cartoon cause its so long ago and it was never replayed on tv, but never forgot that classic song good post man, memories from when i was small in the 80's. . .
this was probably one of my favorite cartoons of all time!! Here I am, 31 years old and before I even found this cartoon theme song, I remembered the tune!! It was definitely memorable. :)
yay crazy conspiracy theorist..blah blah...but really this has illumination related topic raped on youtube debunker like material..symbolism..yay im stupid..or perceived wrong
This is one of those cartoons of the 80s cartoon had an ongoing script- that was so seductive. This cartoon in particular was so inspirational, which offered an educational based theme.
I am glad they are adding to this series. New cartoons are PATHETIC. I grew up with this show, and it may not be a well-known series, but it definitely showed what a well-made animated show can do. Educational and entertaining: tMCoG will live on FOR-EV-ER.
Do you ever vaguely remember something you watched when you were 7 but only remember bits and broken pieces of it and then feel really weird and freaked out by the fragmented nature of that memory, like that part of your brain is just in tatters and slowly dissolving? Whenever I rediscover one of these things, I feel really weird and unsettled. Maybe I'm just nuts.
@Xezlec Yes but when you re-discover that show that you only remember bits and pieces of, the magic of it all starts again and you're transported back to your childhood and relive how you felt when you watched it that first time. I've been searching for shows that I watched when I was a a kid...stuff I only remember bits and pieces of (sometimes only a name of a character or a scene that stuck with me) Pirate bay helped alot with that search. My 35 yr quest is finally over:)
This is the only cartoon me and my mom watched as a child. I will never forget this cartoon because my mom being as busy as she is actually watched the whole series with me. I will always love this cartoon because of that. =)
Oh god! This show! How could I have forgotten it!!? Man I used to haul ass so much after school just to manage to catch this show in time<3 Good times. Good show. Even if it was a bit exaggerated in "avoid violence" sequences.
I regret it so badly that I watched this series after I matured. Great memories.. and a pretty interesting storyline and story elements comparing to the recent Japanese crap. But sadly, it is so childish. :( The evasion of violence is also often exaggerated.
The first 37 seconds of this are awesome, but I can't stand the rest of it. Pretty solid series, however. I never really appreciated it when I was little, but now I'm getting into it again.
It's not the bills that bug me about adulthood, it's the ideological challenge. When I was little, I had no trouble believing that all the things I loved in life were good and positive and worthwhile, and all the people who disagreed were just "bad guys". Now, I feel like those "bad guys" are mostly smarter than me, and I don't know what to think. So yeah I have to agree, 12 was good.
I have actually got this as my ring tone :) myself , my brother and sister use to love watching this! oh how i miss it! Pity my daughter now doesn't get the same quality cartoons!
Of all the animated series I watched as a kid, MCOG has stayed with me with all these years. Nearly everything about the series was perfect: the story-line, the characters, the music and the little documentaries that used to appear at the end. I think every kid from the 80s who watched like me will agree - it was something special.
Oh my! I didn't see it for almost 20 years... Watching this video has triggered in my soul something that I cannot name. Now I see that this show has it's role in defining myself.
This series was aired in Poland in 90s. I loved it! Damn I want the old times back.
i recently bought this on dvd.. i was only little when this was shown in australia and i forgot how good it was. and everybody hated those damn olmecs. estebaaaaaaaan!
Hey I remember this. it used to air on Nickolodeon. Anyone remember a cartoon that aired around the same time that had a boy and a great pyereens dog? I have vague memories of it and I don't remember the name.
im so pissed that they made ppl stop posting the episodes ....but they stopped produceing it....ive been trying to buy the dvds but cant get them anywhere....freakin jerks......
I got the whole series of this last year & watched the lot in one go over a few days LOL. Made me feel sad that I will never be 8 years old & running home to watch Mysterious Cities Of Gold again :(
After watching the series as an adult I realise it was poorly edited, poorly dubbed & it was really the theme tune I was running home from school to listen to :D Love it!
This was anime too?!! Noozles was anime too!!! Was my own whole childhood just more and more anime even though they act like watching anime is so bad and horrible and too much now? They didn't mind it so much when they were stealing it from Japan and just not telling us.
This had to have been one of the more original cartoons ever...too bad it didnt get the recognition it very much deserved. it was educational as well. I remember this cartoon coming on at 6AM when i was a kid. I remember getting upset everytime I woke up late.
@ASD8199 I was that kid too. Didn't it come on Nickoloden right After A&E when off the air for the day?for those who don't know "yes A&E and Nickoloden shared the same airwave, so 9 oclock pm(or was it 7) Nick went off the air and then came on A&E's Monty Pythons Flying Circus", and from there in the late 80's and early 90's became Nick at Night, and from there on I stopped watching cause The Donna Reed Show didnt' add up to Monty.
@smilleydunc oh shit i forgot all about that! i remember that when Nick at Night first came on, if you didnt pay extra for it, then the channel would blur out after Nickelodeon would end for the day....we're talkin around 1989-90. thanks for the flashback though man.
fuck, for ages I was typin in "children of the sun"..turns out I even remember some the lyrics ha ha..priceless.. how come cartoons have got so preppy and dumb? this was the good stuff!
OMG! I used to run home after-school to watch this show when I was little! I could always vaguely remember this show in my mind- THANK YOU YOU TUBE...this brings back good memories!
God, I loved this show and I still do !... IMO This is the best anime ever.
I first watched it when I was 7 or 8 years old in French of course...The melodious theme song brings tears to my eyes whenever I listen this...I would sing along and dance to it... Great show !
this is it, this is the cartoon that made me the person I am today I believe. I woke up today and remember my childhood days when I was watching and following this. And I LOVED this. thanx
Ahh such fond memories :) The 80's were THE only decade from the 20th century that was worth growing up in as far as i'm concerned. I used to rush home from school to watch this and MANY other quality tv shows.
I loved this as a kid, the golden condor fantastic! but now as adults, you realise that 16th centuary flight in a massive, solid gold bird was impossible, why didn't they just scrap the bird and share the profits ? There had to be millions of pounds/dollars in that thing alone! :D Rather than search for the misterious cities of gold that may/may not have existed lol!
Just got the DVD and threw it on. The girlfriend gave me a funny look and went to the kitchen. Theme song started playing and she poked her head out and had a look. To cut a long story short, three episodes later and she refuses to move, all she wants to do is sit down and watch all the episodes. Says it's the best animated series she's ever seen. We're both 29.
The last time that CBBC broadcasted this was 1989 iirc. Nowadays of course they couldn't show it because it's just not politically correct. A great shame indeed !
they wouldn't show this now cos its intelligent and interesting: too advanced for the dumbed-down whelks created by the rubbish that passes for kids TV that seeks to flash non-sensical crap into their brains...
I remember watching this after school when I was supposed to do homework.

I'm Australian and used to watch it as a kid. Where was this made? The animation looks a bit Japanese.

Ahh such fond memories :) The 80's were THE only decade from the 20th century that was worth growing up in as far as i'm concerned. I used to rush home from school to watch this and MANY other quality tv shows.

i used to get up early before school especially for this and watch it with my coco pops

Your comment made me want to get the series myself and relive it all again.
And I will, come hell or high water, I will.
Cheers!

I like your girlfriend already, she has SEEN THE LIGHT...the path of the setting sun. That leads to El Dorado...and THE MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD!
I am so happy that you got the DVD and that she's now interested.
80s ruled! BEST CARTOONS. The cartoons of today cannot HOLD A candle to the 80s. Hand-drawn, story lines, music, and legacies.

The last time that CBBC broadcasted this was 1989 iirc. Nowadays of course they couldn't show it because it's just not politically correct. A great shame indeed !
gothic1hobbit 2 years ago 3
they wouldn't show this now cos its intelligent and interesting: too advanced for the dumbed-down whelks created by the rubbish that passes for kids TV that seeks to flash non-sensical crap into their brains...
