I'm an INFP who tends to judge people first, but then give them a chance, because I believe that the first time you see someone is not necessarily the most accurate. I tend to overanalyze things I enjoy sometimes, get really emotional and sensitive to criticism(or what I perceive to be criticism), and sometimes withdraw from people in order to keep my emotions in check so I don't let other in to the life going on inside my head (secretiveness). My friends see me as caring and extremely loyal.
@TheLittleRedKing I know how you feel when it comes to over-analyzing things. I can make things way too complicated and frustrate others. I always have some strange logic behind everything that I do - thinking it will make it better. Sometimes, it does and sometimes, it's pointless additions to whatever task I'm trying to accomplish. I like that you give people a chance after judging them. Maybe you have a sharp intuition that actually gets triggered when you meet someone?
@karitribble That appears to be the case. I actually have a lot of personality traits of the INFJ as well, such as chameleon like adaptation of the person or people I'm interacting with feeling like an old soul in a young body, as well as sometimes being too open to people. I suppose I'm not entirely an INFP then, however the Jung/Myers personality test showed that this was my dominant personality type, so I'm not sure what to believe.
@TheLittleRedKing I think having an old soul in a young body defies the characterization of a body that is influenced by so many things. Meaning, there is so much that a personality test can do before it becomes limiting and crosses over into the mystery side of life. We can never truly be defined...we can only understand patterns until they change. I'm sure you have both INFP and INFJ tendencies.
@TheLittleRedKing I also wanted to add that instead of being chameleon, I have been told that others can be themselves around me. I seem to be constant for the most part, minus the natural move toward change and evolving oneself - but people tend to really unravel around me and can truly expose who they are. I sometimes wonder though if maybe some of them not necessarily unravel but change into who they want me to see...as if they are afraid of what I think of them.
@karitribble Yes, that seems pretty accurate. I seem to enable people to be themselves instead of trying to act in a way that is supposedly impressive to me in their opinion, or endears them to me, and after this point people start to reveal really personal details about their lives, and ask me for advice on issues that have been bothering them, most likely due to the fact that I listen more than I give advice. And I think that personality tests are rather limiting in perspective.
@nebenanx I hadn't but I just took the shorter version of the test and I got the Type 2 & 5 (which are my favorite numbers - oh the synchronicity!) - So my types are: Type 2 - The Helper. The caring, nurturing type and Type 5 - The Thinker. The perceptive, cerebral type. I think I can relate to the Type 4 result (Artist, Intuitive)... though it didn't come up with the highest points. What was yours? :)
@karitribble Im a 4w5. The Enneagram is very interesting (in my eyes it says way more about your behaviour and intentions that the MBTI does). Being artistic doesnt make people a 4 for example or being happy all the time wont make you a 7. Its more about the underlying fear that motivates each and every type in his behaviour.
Its a pretty cool tool and I definitely recognize certain types in a couple of people of my school :)
I'm one of those NI,FE type people who analyze everything to death. I really like INFPs because of how creative and artistic they are.. I have a friend with NE who uses quite a lot of visualism... I think he looks at the external world as if its always speaking to him in some way.. Even though we share some similarities.. NI is much more apparent in me and NE in him.. Im always trying to get him to go a trip with me but i think hes already on one..
@incogneuro Your analytical nature goes really well with INFPs. I am analytical myself and love diving into deeper subjects. I bet you have this kind of relationship with your friend and the two of you can look at it from different angles. That's the beauty in all of this - we can help each other see and understand experiences in life with such unique viewpoints...so different... the angle is always changing because the angle is really about how we perceive it anyway.
@incogneuro I also love how you said, "I'm always trying to get him to go on a trip with me but I think he's already on one." - So cool. He probably is...but it doesn't mean he can't multi-task and join you on this dimensional plane for one :) hehe
One thing that really stands out in you is your FI.. I always wonder what it would be like having FI.. because my experience with people who have this function is that they tend to be very in touch spiritually. You guys seem to have some very hidden talents :)
@incogneuro It's very interesting when you consider the attitudes and functions of each personality type - you begin to see a puzzle piece, forming together. Where one area lacks, another block is there to fill the gap. I think everyone's perfectly placed in this harmonic human sphere...the human experience, to which everyone operates and functions in a perfect, yet chaotic, platform. What was your type? Care to share? :)
@Karibird22 That's pretty awesome! How do you pronounce it? Most people say my name like "Car-e" but it's actually the typical pronunciation as "Carrie." :)

@karitribble mine is pronounced "Carrie" as well. The only people who have called me Car-e have been from the northern part of the US.
