@someshikamaru when Ichigo went to get his powers again when Rukias brother destroyed his soul chain and soul sleep he went through a process that would turn him into a hollow if he did not manage to get Zangetzu before the mask was formed. He grabbed Zangetzu as soon as the mask was formed completely which gave him the powers of a hollow that is the other half of what makes up Zangetzu

@someshikamaru When he was becoming a shinigami (death god) after Byak-(something) took away the powers Rukia gave to him. Remember when he was turning into a hallow but fighting against it? Even though Ichigo resumed control, the hallow stayed a part of him.
