I remember they played this on either the National Geographic channel in North America or what is now the Discovery Channel. Either way I was so excited when I was young to see this and never thought I'd see it again!
@alinblaj well im not gonna be talk trash about either one because i like them both but, I do think that a pride Wanderlei and a young Cung WITH a bit of MUAY thai background would have been a better fight and it could have gone either way because he didnt know muay thai defenses D:
@fifaplayer10 I think a 30 year old Cung Le would have beaten a 30 year old Wandererlei Silva with the MMA experience being the same. It has to be remembered that Cung Le was 39, had not fought in a year and was more fixated on movies when he fought Wanderlei. I know movies pay big bucks but I think it was a bad idea for Cung to juggle acting and fighting in the twilight of his career.
@MysticNinjaJay I agree. Cung was pretty old, i mean you could see some rolls on his stomach and the fact the fact the he was already fatigued in the first round. lol.
@EthaKidd1 He's a Blue Belt in BJJ. He was an All-American collegiate and high school Wrestler as well as state wrestling champion. He has also won tournaments in Judo and Sambo. So he's got alot of grappling experience. But we haven't seen him on his back in MMA.
One has to remember that Cung's family had connections. As for the mother claiming to be scared & cold, that's nothing compared to what we boat people went through years later when we escaped from VN. If we got caught, we would be tortured. If we didn't, we might got lost in the ocean or got swallowed by it, resulting in cannibalism. If we got through that, we had to endure the pig sty & prejudice treament in refugee camps in Hong Kong, the Philippines, etc.. It wasn't a walk in the park for us.
@dankaren95 I'm sure that the experience of being a refugee was tough. I doubt Cung's family had it easy either. Sure they had connections in the USA but they weren't well off and Cung had to grow up in a foreign land enduring racism and bullying.
@ChunkyChungster I guess you were born here. As you migh already know, boat people are more successful here than those who were sponsored here? We tend to value money more as we went through all that hardship, which is only natural as humans tend to value things that are hard to get.
I had a fight a couple of years ago and i was told not to fight and just tell a teacher and after he hit me enough times i could not go to the teacher,
Later that day i told my mum and the day after i had my first k.o
his mother should of said "don't pick fights with other people" and not "don't defend your self" defending yourself is the correctly to deal with situations like a fight but morally and legally
Cung Le is a superb kickboxer, but the designation of Champion may be a bit of an exaggeration. He earned the title of "Champion" in different organizations and fighting tournaments, but the bottom line is that in terms of the other fighters out there, he has not fought enough of the best in the world in my opinion to quite reach that sacred status of true Champion. Elite fighter, yes, but not a Champion.
@Chumandoo3 He has one several tournaments and championships in various combat sports including at the world class level so I would definitely call him a true champion. People should understand that Cung Le has been a Professional Fighter for years long before he started doing MMA. In MMA he hasn't quite reached #1 status in his division but he was the champion of Strikeforce which is one of the biggest organizations.
@avreeves Cung began his MMA career at 33. The biggest factor here was the age and inactivity. Wanderlei had more mileage on his body from so many knockout losses but he's not old yet and was more active. Cung taking a year off and being more focused on movies hurt him in that fight. He didn't have the cardio to keep up with Silva.
@Chumandoo3 how can he not be a champion when his won the middle weight key word "CHAMPIONSHIP" belt, he has onli 1 loss in his mma carreer and 0 in his boxing. I think the fact that Dana White reali wants him in the ufc speaks for itself
THANK U SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS.

Wanderlei Silva better not try to go toe to toe with Cung le. His striking is too accurate. How's cung le's ground game? Anyone know?

@dankaren95 you're right, she had it easy, she was flown out of Vietnam. My parents were boat people and suffered a long journey to America.
