Attack of the Grey Lantern has been on my player for the last weeks, again, after a few years, and it is as good as ever, one of the best records of that era. Imagine randomly finding this CD on a shopping mall, here in Spain, where they were almost completely unknown... It was one of the best things in my life, being on my fifteens, really!!
check out ocean colour scene, terrorvision, boo radleys, marion, gene, reef, kula shaker and space.... similar kinds of music, all hidden gems lost behind blur, pulp and oasis dominating britpop!!
A very under rated band, Attack of the Grey Lantern was a classic album without any of the usual 'fillers' you got from other bands. I regularly put it on and dont want to forward any of the tracks. The press just had it in for them i think, much maligned, sad really.
can anyone tell me what brand/model's Paul's red-slash-black guitar? beautiful!! and i totally love song, love the album, love love LOVE the band! 1996 has gotta be one of the best years of brilliant songs... especially from the UK =D
i used to commute down to birmingham mid 90's where i fell in love with a most beautiful and before we used to meet up I used to listen to mansun's first album esp wide open spaces, bitter sweet memories
Can't believe Draper doesn't rate this one much, this is the song that got me into Mansun back in '96 and is a perfect balance of commercial writing but with the Mansun personality. Also Paul got some real unusual phrasing into this song which isn't easy to do and keep it 'catchy' or 'radio friendly'
I know, its mad to think how long ago it was. I love the grey latern album and at a festival I ditched a chance to see the chilli peppers to go see Mansun on the other stage and I dont regret it. got right to the front and loved every second of it. ps, I love MCR too, Frankie rawks xoxo
I'm not old enough to remember these from their heyday but one of my mates sent me this and Wide Open Space and I fell in love with them. One of the forgotten bands of the 90's and Attack of the Grey Lantern is probably one of the finest albums from the 90's.
Hold on, did you say shed 7 ?? Don't even mention Mansun and Shed 7 in the same sentence. C'mon!! Buy all the Mansun albums... it might encourage them to reunite
Attack Of The Grey Lanterns, and the other Mansun albums as well, are fantastic! "The Chad Who Loved Me", "Taxloss", and "Legacy" are my favourite songs. And also, Australia definitely deserve the Ashes because...well...England are rubbish.
Yeah, just don't forget to buy their new CD/DVD with all of their music videos on it! And i am sure at a much greater level of quality than on here! I can't wait to get mine :)

The bombed out church in Liverpool is called St. Luke's. I'm not sure if it's the same as the one in the video though.
