With your hair try a couple of things. Blow dry and curl...don't straighten or else it will never work. Also try hair spray. One BIG problem is your curling iron is to big. To get more definition you need smaller curling iron.

youre curling it the wrong way, you need to curl at the top, let it sit, let the clip losen a little, add more hair, twist back up and continue that all the way down to the ends dont start from the ends and turn upwards

i have that same curler just the 1". I recieved it as a gift and i LOVE IT. i have the same length and from what i can see thickness of hair as you, (a well as naturally curly) and my curler works great for it. But i have noticed that it curls better right after i have washed and dried it. with no products (besides some heat protectant) in it. Maybe try thinner peices? and once everything curled the peices will fall together and make better waves. :)

Yeah, this is what happens to me when I curl. Nothing happens and I have natural wave to my hair, so it's very disappointing. I bought another curling iron that is smaller and it worked better.

I would definitely try curling your hair when its in its natural state as opposed to when its straightened.

I really hope it works! As for the Toms I justify the price by reminding myself you're really paying for two pairs!
