Your song leader has a lovey voice. Listening to this makes me home sick. We have singing service every first Sunday night. I wish there were more a capella hymns up by anyone in general.
I enjoy hearing christians singing with joy in their heart and it is very evident that this outstanding song leader is standing beofre a room of such christians. Thank you for sharing this with us.
David lived under the old covenant, after Christ and his death burial and resurrection, there came the new covenant and things that were done under the old covenant were put away, and the new covenant came with new rules..In the new covenant, which is the New Testament, there is no evedence of any churches in the time of Christ and His gospel, of ever having instruments in the Christian worship. Christ didn't command it and His desciples didn't command it, so we don't us them today.
Instruments in Christian worship was not introduced until long after the old and new testaments were written. Instruments in worship services is a late innovation of the Midevil Catholic Church. People say..David played instruments for God, yes he did, but that has nothing to do with Christian worship, David lived thousands of years before Christ, therefore David was not Christian, David also sacrificed animals, do we do that today? no, so if you want to do like david, then do as he did.
The Bible doesn't mention a song leader, but in Colossions 3:16 It says, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom, "teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing with grace in your heart......Teaching and admonishing, that means to teach a congregation how to sing together with one voice and one accord, so a song leader is a teacher, a leader who leads the congregation in song.
To GOD who alone is wise made us friend with His Son Jesus Christ must be exalted forever for His wonderful love towards us. Hi there brothers and sisters, This is Brother Edison Mendoza of Church of Christ from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, Philippines. absolutely beautiful.....the Bible says "fruit of the lips" and to "sing and make melody in your heart".....the New Testament mentions nothing about instruments....beautiful music
@ tragic-God bless you, not sure if your comment was in response to mine. Song leading is not unscriptural based on 1 Corinth 14. It is a necessity based on that chapter (v 15, 26, 40). Alternatively, instrumental music is not authorized. @Doesthebible- God bless you also and I hope your well. I was unclear on your comment because the Bible does authorize hymns (Col 3:16 KJV and ASV 1901)
@IAMSHAK- Greetings and God Bless. What scripture is taken out of context and what is the proper context?
@lawvere I don't mean to pick but one of my greatest pet peeves is when people say "my church." The one true church we read about in the New Testament was established and purchased through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. The church is not yours or mine but it is our Lord and Saviors. (Acts 20:28)
I think often people use the terms "my church" or "our church" when they really mean - the congregation where I worship.
With that said - I agree this man is a wonderful song leader! :)
The scriptrue about instruments is taken out of context. I am in the CHurch of Christ but I feel that the COC def. takes it out of context; however, I prefer accapella music
God bless you all. If the issue is whether instrumental music is authorized in worship in the new testament, then the answer is no. All instances of singing praises in the new testament do not include instrumental worship. Since Amos 6:5 there is no authorization by God and instruments were never used in the Holy of Holies under the mosaic law.
If you would like to discuss further then please contact me personally. Again, God bless you all.
Absolutely beautiful. There is nothing like hearing the Lord's beautiful praises sung in accapella harmony like you will hear at the Church of Christ. Beautiful!!
Your going to spend eternity in Hell where your soul will never die, the flame will lick your face, and the worm dieth not because the CofC is a CULT!!!
vocals74, gtamastamind, UA SRT99, COCYBF, finklekicker, AmericaRejects USA: According to God's word, you are all so simply and exactly correct. It is so simple, so exact, and so easy for any and all of us to read for ourselves in God's word what you have so simply and correctly stated. Yours are not opinions, but simple truths found in black and white in God's word. But, thank you for so lovingly and understandably sharing these simple, but profound truths with us all. God Bless!
I don't understand why it has to be so hard for someone to understand what is exceptable worship!?!? After a little study from the old & new about music instruments)...I seen that God was not pleased with David introducing instruments in the priase to God. I could not find anywhere in the New to use instruments in worship...I feel that if God wanted instruments in worship He would have had some instruction like He does about baptism, Lord super, prayer, singing, giving, and how to live right.
Read Pslams. The fact that in heaven there was a mintril No music in church but they listen to wordly filthy music and thats ok.The Bible says as Christians you are to be in the world not of it.When you listen to the same garbage the world listens too, your the same. The coc says that if a man starts a church its not of God. The coc was started by Alexander Campbell in1833 a man who was never baptised in the coc so you follow the etachings of a man who according to your own doctrine was not saved!
learn the songs...no big deal i guess...song leader's preference...just like my mostly black coc...be clapping and stomping....woke up this morning and you know my mind was set ...............on JESUSSSSSSS...clapp stomp yeha!!
Sorry the helping people find their pitch does not work for me. It's still a mechanical instrument. So, if you don't want to let women lead a song or sing a song then put away the mechanical microphone, or just go ahead and get the piano. It looks to me as if the COC uses what it wants to at it's elders convenience. Microphones were not used in the Bible so if u want to be so picky ditch the mike. The singing is dead and has no life and so is the song leader.God is not listening
i went to a lads to leaders convention and it was great there was 5000 christians in 1 room it was amazing so whoever said religion is dead well u couldnt be anymore wrong
Christianity has not died you idiot. Obviously, you are one of Junaita Bynum's disciples that has started calling themselves Bynumites. Deepest darnkness is reserved for you and your false teachers. Go back to hell where you belong!
All churches of Christ do not believe in the same things. The title doesn't necessarily mean it agrees. Remember that. Some people most have had a lot of grief and guilt due to a church of Christ some where because these posts are a little wild.
I love this song...I think it is so funny that it changes slightly depending on which congregation is singing it. The song leader here has an excellent voice!
I am SO HAPPY not to be brainwashed in the church of christ any more! Not only am I free of your stupid rules that are explicitly prohibited in the bible, but I am free from the stupid rules that we used to impose on ourselves, like 'god doesn't approve of language referring to sexuality' blah blah blan!
Stupid Rules? Obviously, your rules supercede God's rules and your brain was able to reason that as long as you feel good doing it, that it must be okay!
You have always been free, free to follow Christ or free to continue in your sins. I noticed you chose to put a little "g" for God and a little "c" for Christ but used capitals for your version of feeling so happy! Not merely a coincedence was it?
Seems like you have some problems with that church. You have a bad conscience or something? Cant you just let them do their own thing with out talking trash to them? I'm not church of Christ but I don't go bad mouthing them. You'll feel stupid later.
Not a crime but your foolishness has put you in bed with the Creflo Dollar ministries. Obviously you have chose Juanita Bynum over Christ. I suspect you dropped the name Christian and voted to be known as a Bynumite.
I have a problem with microphones...but in this case I don't see a problem with it. He is the song leader....I have been to CofC where they have people singing on microphones to help people "find their pitch." That bothered me because I felt that was putting other voices above the rest of the Church...however, using a microphone when leading a song is sometimes necessary...especially when you have many elderly people in a congregation who are hard of hearing.
That microphone has caused many people to stumble into hell with their so called "Song Leader". Can you show me the position of congregational song leader in the NT?
How in the world could they command such a thing when they didn't have things to record? They did infact have a church building...it's called the temple. And nowhere does it say these are wrong. Stop judging funy2me because you could offending someone
That's my point. There IS NO direct command or example in the bible that permits anyone to record or post anything from a church service.
And that's the problem.
The church of christ claims to demand either biblical example or commandment for everything it does. Yet this video demonstrates MANY things that are neither commanded nor allowed in the NT.
I'll give a few examples - church buildings, song books, video recordings, etc.
It Doesnt Matter Where The People Meet To Worship At. The People Who Are Saved Make Up The Church. It Makes It Easier To Meet In One Place Every Sunday... Please Mistake The Building As Being Holy. The Only Thing Holy Is The People In It...We Dont Worship The Building. We Worship Christ, Christ Is The Head Of The Church.
letrs putit this way honey in the Bilble it say to spread the gospel if this is the way on eman can do it so be it God doesn't look down on it and when it comes right down to it hymnals that we sing our fom our singings we don't really pay attention to them our hearts are too busy singing priases to God don't be confused by denominationalisimn
you can discuss this with them til ur blue in the face and they won't get it. they have distanced themselves from so much and so many other Christians of other churches that they are confounded when approached with what u r saying. They will only regard with their elders tell them whether it's true or not.
You are right, I am torn between two religions, One Sunday i'm baptist the next i'm coc, the coc does not believe in serving god with instruments nor can women do things in the service. They also believe if you are not in the coc then you are doomed for hell. Well I guess it's going to be a lot of us in hell together!!!
I know that... my father is a preacher, I mean minister in the coc, but it does state in the bible to praise him with the tambourine and the trumpet, but you all don't worship by the old testament, but yet you still teach out of it. What sense does that make?
the old testament was old law and when jesus saved us by being crucified the old law went into action... actually around 40 days after he was resurrected. the old testament serves as moral reminders but it is not law because of the son of God coming to this earth. yes, it does mention using instruments in the old testament but it doesn't in the new.
t(continued) the new testament says to make a joyful shout to the lord with a melody in your heart. do i think having instruments sends you to hell? absolutely not. but if i tell a car detailer i want my car paint it black and he paints it green and he says well you didn't tell me not to paint it green.... is that ok?
The CHURCH (C.O.C.) lives by the new testament which came with Jesus Christ. We live by the new teswtrament and also learn from the old which is reference to the New. The Old testament foretold the the coming of the New testament (Jesus Christ). You have to study the old to live with in new!!!!

While I don't agree with the Church of Christ on some issues, it was heartfelt singing like this that put a love in my heart for God's music that has remained with me all my life. What a day it will be when all of God's singers get home!
How dare you involve yourself in such unscriptural activity! There is NO COMMAND or EXAMPLE in the Bible giving you the authority to bring a video camera into a service, much less RECORD it!
I'm a minister of the church of Christ in Petersburg,Va and it's great to see the Lord's church represented in this video. We sing this song all the time at my congregation because we believe that the church of Christ is the only church that you can read about in the Bible and if a person wants to go to that land 'Where The Soul Never Dies',they must comply with the conditions that God has laid down in His holy book, the Bible.
Thank you for your kindness and your answers. One last question. How was the church of Christ restored? Was it through Christ and what actions took place in order for Christ's church to be restored on this earth.
It is so sad that all you people want to do is argue about what you believe. Try putting that energy into winning the lost. What a shame.Study about The Holy Spirit. If you got the Holy Spirit when you got baptized, then why are you casting out demons/These signs shall follow. If tongues are of the devil, Then why didn't you or I speak in tounges when we were not saved?Scripture infatically proves tongues/Corinthians says tongues of MEN and of ANGELS.
Apparently, Jesus was extremely misguided by arguing about what people believed, like in the latter part of John 8. Have you brought this issue up with him?
Corinthians does speak of tongues - and in Acts 2, some are mentioned specifically, like the tongue of the Hebrews, the Greeks, those from Rome... Which do you speak, and why do you speak it? Is it because you are speaking to foreigners who don't understand English, or are you speaking into the air (I Cor 14:9)?
I agree with the scripture you sent me concerning husband and wife, but how does the church of Christ interpret that? To what degree does a woman have to obey her husband. Can you tell me without scripture? Example: Say my husband wanted to join a Catholic church and I did not believe in that church. Should I obey him and join? What if he wanted to join a Muslim or Buddist church?
I believe a woman should obey, only in righteousness. Thanks.
To the degree that it does not transgress the will of God. If your husband wants you to participate in activities unbecoming of a Christian, such as becoming part of a church that does not belong to the Lord or follow his teachings, you must refuse (respectfully). Christ first, husband second, but that doesn't mean you don't have to do what he says just because he's a jerk, lazy unfair or dumb. Humility can be humiliating, but Christian men as well as women must sometimes swallow their pride.
That's relief. My husband is a member of the church of Christ. He does not attend but he had one preacher who taught that they were the only ones going to heaven. They got rid of that one, then the next one (they have now) does not teach that. Can you tell me which preacher is right? In all honesty?
The Bible teaches that when one repents of his sins and is baptized, he is baptized into the body of Christ, which is his church (I Cor 12:13, Col 1:18). Acts 2:47 says that God adds to the church those who should be saved, and so it becomes apparent that one becomes a member of the church when he is saved - and those who are not members are not saved. This body of believers, this church, belongs to Christ - it is the church of Christ (Rom 16:16).
Acts 2:47 says that God added everyone to the church who followed the words of Peter - they repented of their sins and were baptized. They did their part and God did his. The point was that that God adds everyone who meets the conditions for salvation to the church, so no saved person could ever be found outside of it.
Almost anyone who claims to be a Christian will look at the Bible and say that if you aren't part of that church it describes, then you aren't going to heaven - so of course you must be a member of the church of Christ to get to heaven, since the Bible describes it as such. The problem begins when people place any church in this category - regardless of name, belief, or practice. I believe that unless you can line yourself up with the church in the Bible, and find nothing differing, you aren't
The Bible does not speak of dual membership - too many people try to be a Christian *and* a Baptist, a Christian and a Catholic, a Christian and a Pentecostal. Why can't we all just be Christians and Christians only, with no beliefs and practices other than those found in scripture?
I know I am a member of the church of Christ, the church that Jesus founded - not because we have a sign on building to that effect (which we do), but because we teach and practice what the Bible says.
Most of the COC believe they are the only ones going to heaven and they are wrong. If ur the church u don't have to teach that, but they pride themselves on that. They love it so, and they won't associate with other Christians from other churches unless it's to try to get them into the COC
I have been COC for 30 years. I don't know anyone who thinks we're the only ones going to heaven. God alone decides who goes to heaven, and I don't presume to tell him his business. As for your statements about pitch pipes and microphones, a microphone is not music, playing a piano, etc is. The NT specifies what type of MUSIC is to be used in church--singing. We sing a cappella because that's what the first Christians did. Does God really care? Probably not. But that's what we want to do.
My husband's family is in the church of Christ. Their last preacher did teach that they are the only ones going to heaven. They fired him so now the one they have supposidly does not teach that. I think it's okay not to have music accompanyment, but it's much prettier with it. I think God is pleased to hear beautiful and spiritual music. I don't think he'd curse a church that had a piano. But my grandparent's church rocks out with electric guitars. Whoah nelly!
Only those who accepted Christ's atonement on the cross will enter the kingdom of heaven. God gave everyone single one of us that chance. To reject this free gift (salvation by grace and grace alone through faith) would be to choose eternal separation from God (hell). Everyone, please ask Jesus to be your personal Savior!
I agree, we all have been given free will and the ability to decide who will will follow. Once we have accepted Jesus by hearing His word and realizing that Jesus is Lord, we must follow the biblical outline by repenting of our sins(Acts 2:38), being baptized (Rom 6:3-4). Our job doesn't end there, we are called to live faithfully and though we sin daily, we draw closer to God through a life of continual repentance through grace, confession to others, and remaining steadfastly in his word.
One other thing. How do you know which church fits the biblical church? They all claim the same thing?
I like how the church of Christ believes in faith and works, baptism for remission of sins, missionary work and repentance. Our churches have several things in common. I do wish my inlaws would stop presenting me with anti mormon videos and literature. I understand why they do, because they don't know any better. Their preacher hands that stuff out. He gets it from living hope ministries.
I believe in speaking in tongues, although I have never experienced that. I have read many stories about it. It is not something someone or just anyone can do, it is a gift. I don't understand it fully, but a person has to be really spiritual and worthy to receive such a gift. Also, the person must be blessed with the gift of translation to know what has been said. I think it's pretty awesome.
The person who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks a language that no one present understands, and so is unable to profit others by his knowledge (I Cor 14:9-11, 16-17). Paul therefore instructs him who speaks in an *unknown* tongue to pray for the *gift* of tongues (vs 13) that he might interpret his thoughts and speak so that everyone can hear and understand. God is not the author of confusion (vs 33) - he does not give the gift of tongues to confuse but to rather to make clear what is said.
I definitely have done my share of soul searching and after all the reading I've done and all the other churches I've been to, I've never been more at home than at the COC. Now that's not to say that there aren't some parts of the doctrine that I disagree with, but, when it's all said and done, I disagree the least with the church of Christ. I don't particularly have a problem with a piano or something but honestly, the drums kill my ears!!! LOL!
Maybe I'm jumping in on all of this late. I went to a "black" COC in Dallas. In Houston, I attend a "white" COC. There are slight differences in doctrine. Like one time I went after not having been in a while and thought I would fall out of my chair when I saw a lady go up and lead the prayer and then another one leading the song. LOL! Not that I think it's wrong personally, but never thought I would see that in the church of Christ and wasn't expecting it, frankly.
WOW! good for yall, u do realize that you will be hung and quartered for this and ur church will be disassociated by those who are uptight about really praising God lol
I am of Paul, And I of Apollos, And I of Paul and I of Christ. Is Christ divided?
We need to pray before allowing ourselves to be used to further divide and devour one another by the words we speak. We absolutely reflect Jesus our Lord in ALL that we say and do, if we are truly HIS. May God give us more grace and wisdom.
Thanks to the one who shared this video...It is a blessing to be fed God's love through HIS people online. Thanks!!!! Remain in Jesus!!!
I think he refers (honestly and sincerely) to my section of the country - the Deep South - where most congregations are segregated. We nor they have any problem with our social system - if so, I have never heard of either race expressing dissatisfaction, and such practice is neither scriptural nor unscriptural - it is an expedient. I disagree with him in general, but he is referring to our area of the country - not California or Maine.
How is what I wrote a divisive and awful thing to write? I complicated the faithfulness and obedience of GREAT BLACL GOSPEL PREACHERS IN THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, as most of the white congregations ares o liberal they will fall for everything and stand for nothing. Its true. Black churches are MORE faithful to the Lord, thats basically what I meant. Check out the discussion between Jack Evans and Rick Atchely if you doubt me.
That is absurd. Have you ever heard of N.B. Hardeman, Foy E. Wallace, and Alan Highers? Here, the WHITE churches of Christ BUILT the colored churches of Christ, atleast until they were self-sustaining, and there is no division among us. They attend our meetings; we support their massive benevolence programs in the Negro sections of town. There are and have been great gospel preachers of both races.
No "black" church of Christ that I ever heard of would allow a woman to lead the congregation in singing or lead a public prayer. If anything, the black churches would be more opposed to that - "liberalism" does not spring from the black churches: it springs from "white" churches (and, in particular, colleges)
I got to a all white church of christ, only 1 black person goes there but. We dont allow women to do anything in worship serivces, like preach, scripture reading, prayers, communion, and etc..
Our churches are segregated, also - by choice. We do heavily support their foot pantry, clothes closet, heater and a/c rooms, etc because they are in a better position to determine need. But I am SURE that they do not allow women to lead singing, preach, make announcements, etc.
As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Thank you for the answer. I can only agree partially on that because women do teach atleast children in the church. That's really not being too silent. If you take the word silent to mean literally that, it seems that women would have to be completely silent at all times in church, even sunday school. I do think men should hold the high callings in the church, but reading scripture? I don't see anything wrong with a woman studying and reading scripture. We can all learn from one another.
the men don't think so. they refuse to let a woman read scripture. with these men it makes them feel in control to have the women the way they are. it feeds their egos. some women want to do more, but they're not going to let them. i have gift of discernment and there is a lot of skeletons in the closet of these people and one day that closet is going to explode
Thanks for the messages. Are you or have you ever been affiliated with this denomination? If so, I would love to talk with you more about it. You are welcome to send me a personal message.
Hello Jen! I am a faithful member of the Church of Christ and I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I am willing to talk to you about this. Best wishes and God's blessings!
Awesome! Thank you. As soon as I get around to it, I would love to talk to you. First, I'll have to ask you about the particular church of Christ you attend, because so many of them teach differently than eachother. Looking forward to talking with you :)
Also, when a certain person I know sings in her church (of Christ), she is the loudest singer. I think she is really the one leading the song, haha! I just thought I would share that.
A woman should only obey her husband in righteousness. A man is supposed to honor his wife and be benevolent to her. He is supposed to leave his parents and cling to his wife. The bible tells us that a husband and wife shall be one. That one means, the same in purpose, united as a team, both equal. Even so, although they do have different responsibilities, they are equal in importance in God's eyes. Women raise the men from birth, there is no job greater.
They are - women as well as men have the responsibility to worship God in the way he has directed, but the leadership of this worship God has placed in the hands of the men. Both participate equally, but they have different roles.
A woman does not usurp the authority of a man by teaching children in class - they are not teaching men, but children, and being in a church building does not make it "in church."
Thank you for your answer and your kindness. I know that the word "church" represents the people. It's easier to say "going to church" and all religions will understand that. I agree with your statement about men and women in the church. The men, in Christ's primitive church are the ones who held the authority of God, to perform his work like baptism, anointing, giving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Women have the ability to teach men, to study scriptures and such. We have brains just as a man.
Eph 5:19 speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and praising in your heart to the Lord,
G5568 Ψαλμός psalmós; Originally a touching, and then a touching of the harp or other stringed instruments with the finger or with the plectrum; later known as the instrument itself, and finally it became known as the song sung with musical accompaniment.
Anything outside of what was established in the Church on the day of Pentecost is considered a sin. Since the Church was made by God's good grace for Christians, a way into Heaven, and since by God it was made then, anything introduced by man afterwards can't be right, otherwise, why didn't God introduce it on the day of Pentecost? It has to be because He didn't want it recognized in the Church. Modus Tollins.
As for the blacks comment, that was more of a societal issue. The people who didn't allow someone of a different race, not just blacks,to worship acted on their own will. They will be judged for this. Today, this probably still goes on in most religions. The Lord's Church, established on the day of Pentecost accepts any race, for this is what God intended, a la Church of Christ.
i was raised in church of Christ...keep in mind that only the rich had instruments... and were not introduce into the church's till about 600 AD... in the new testament they burned incense.... and killed sacrifices.... although i dont think it's a sin to use instruments, i do think its not necessary... instruments are almost a crutch..ex: can we add grape jelly to the communion table?...after all it makes the bread/crackers tastier.. and it is made from the fruit of the vine..no i don't think so
The New Testament does not speak against having instruments in the church, but if you really read and study your bible, you would understand that it was not God's intention for us to use instruments in the church.

To everyone who believes in having musical instruments in the church, Read This!!!
Ephesians 5:19- Speaking yo yourselves in psalms and hymns and spritual songs, SINGING AND MAKING MELODY IN YOUR HEART to the lord. This passage says nothing about using instruments to make melody unto the lord, but it does say "singing and making melody IN YOUR HEART to the lord.
And Ephesians nor any New Testament scripture doesn't say you cannot have instrument in church. So COC shouldn't make a doctrine about not having music in church.
Your song leader has a lovey voice. Listening to this makes me home sick. We have singing service every first Sunday night. I wish there were more a capella hymns up by anyone in general.

This man is a really good song leader. I should take notes from him for when I lead worship at my church!
lawvere 1 year ago 6
@lawvere I don't mean to pick but one of my greatest pet peeves is when people say "my church." The one true church we read about in the New Testament was established and purchased through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. The church is not yours or mine but it is our Lord and Saviors. (Acts 20:28)
I think often people use the terms "my church" or "our church" when they really mean - the congregation where I worship.
With that said - I agree this man is a wonderful song leader! :)

God is a spirit and they that worship Him MUST worship him in spirit and TRUTH. John 4:24

Where To Spread The Word Around To People
holybiblebrandon 2 years ago
That's my point. There IS NO direct command or example in the bible that permits anyone to record or post anything from a church service.
And that's the problem.
The church of christ claims to demand either biblical example or commandment for everything it does. Yet this video demonstrates MANY things that are neither commanded nor allowed in the NT.
I'll give a few examples - church buildings, song books, video recordings, etc.
You can't have it both ways.

GoofyTigerBoyz 2 years ago
Reason why COC don't use instruments in sevice because the bible don't say to use instruments and tell us to make music into our heart .
BLUE52381 2 years ago 27
I know that... my father is a preacher, I mean minister in the coc, but it does state in the bible to praise him with the tambourine and the trumpet, but you all don't worship by the old testament, but yet you still teach out of it. What sense does that make?
GoofyTigerBoyz 2 years ago
the old testament was old law and when jesus saved us by being crucified the old law went into action... actually around 40 days after he was resurrected. the old testament serves as moral reminders but it is not law because of the son of God coming to this earth. yes, it does mention using instruments in the old testament but it doesn't in the new.
finklekicker 2 years ago
t(continued) the new testament says to make a joyful shout to the lord with a melody in your heart. do i think having instruments sends you to hell? absolutely not. but if i tell a car detailer i want my car paint it black and he paints it green and he says well you didn't tell me not to paint it green.... is that ok?

It is so sad that all you people want to do is argue about what you believe. Try putting that energy into winning the lost. What a shame.Study about The Holy Spirit. If you got the Holy Spirit when you got baptized, then why are you casting out demons/These signs shall follow. If tongues are of the devil, Then why didn't you or I speak in tounges when we were not saved?Scripture infatically proves tongues/Corinthians says tongues of MEN and of ANGELS.
latabanza 3 years ago
Apparently, Jesus was extremely misguided by arguing about what people believed, like in the latter part of John 8. Have you brought this issue up with him?
Corinthians does speak of tongues - and in Acts 2, some are mentioned specifically, like the tongue of the Hebrews, the Greeks, those from Rome... Which do you speak, and why do you speak it? Is it because you are speaking to foreigners who don't understand English, or are you speaking into the air (I Cor 14:9)?

How far does the church of Christ take the "obey your husband" scripture? Is there anything women don't have to obey? I am so curious. Thanks.
jennysjuice 3 years ago
Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Just as the man totally submits himself to Christ, likewise the wife to her husband, excepting those things that transgress the will of God.
rotary57 3 years ago
I agree with the scripture you sent me concerning husband and wife, but how does the church of Christ interpret that? To what degree does a woman have to obey her husband. Can you tell me without scripture? Example: Say my husband wanted to join a Catholic church and I did not believe in that church. Should I obey him and join? What if he wanted to join a Muslim or Buddist church?
I believe a woman should obey, only in righteousness. Thanks.
jennysjuice 3 years ago 2
To the degree that it does not transgress the will of God. If your husband wants you to participate in activities unbecoming of a Christian, such as becoming part of a church that does not belong to the Lord or follow his teachings, you must refuse (respectfully). Christ first, husband second, but that doesn't mean you don't have to do what he says just because he's a jerk, lazy unfair or dumb. Humility can be humiliating, but Christian men as well as women must sometimes swallow their pride.
rotary57 3 years ago 2
That's relief. My husband is a member of the church of Christ. He does not attend but he had one preacher who taught that they were the only ones going to heaven. They got rid of that one, then the next one (they have now) does not teach that. Can you tell me which preacher is right? In all honesty?
jennysjuice 3 years ago
The Bible teaches that when one repents of his sins and is baptized, he is baptized into the body of Christ, which is his church (I Cor 12:13, Col 1:18). Acts 2:47 says that God adds to the church those who should be saved, and so it becomes apparent that one becomes a member of the church when he is saved - and those who are not members are not saved. This body of believers, this church, belongs to Christ - it is the church of Christ (Rom 16:16).
rotary57 3 years ago
I totally agree. And a good point would be to know that Christ's church would be very organized, nothing differing from church to church.
Are you saying that God chooses who he wants to add? Maybe I'm wrong. Thanks.
jennysjuice 3 years ago
Let me be a little more clear on that point -
Acts 2:47 says that God added everyone to the church who followed the words of Peter - they repented of their sins and were baptized. They did their part and God did his. The point was that that God adds everyone who meets the conditions for salvation to the church, so no saved person could ever be found outside of it.
rotary57 3 years ago
Almost anyone who claims to be a Christian will look at the Bible and say that if you aren't part of that church it describes, then you aren't going to heaven - so of course you must be a member of the church of Christ to get to heaven, since the Bible describes it as such. The problem begins when people place any church in this category - regardless of name, belief, or practice. I believe that unless you can line yourself up with the church in the Bible, and find nothing differing, you aren't
rotary57 3 years ago
The Bible does not speak of dual membership - too many people try to be a Christian *and* a Baptist, a Christian and a Catholic, a Christian and a Pentecostal. Why can't we all just be Christians and Christians only, with no beliefs and practices other than those found in scripture?
I know I am a member of the church of Christ, the church that Jesus founded - not because we have a sign on building to that effect (which we do), but because we teach and practice what the Bible says.
rotary57 3 years ago 2
Most of the COC believe they are the only ones going to heaven and they are wrong. If ur the church u don't have to teach that, but they pride themselves on that. They love it so, and they won't associate with other Christians from other churches unless it's to try to get them into the COC

Jzxcv89 2 years ago
I have been COC for 30 years. I don't know anyone who thinks we're the only ones going to heaven. God alone decides who goes to heaven, and I don't presume to tell him his business. As for your statements about pitch pipes and microphones, a microphone is not music, playing a piano, etc is. The NT specifies what type of MUSIC is to be used in church--singing. We sing a cappella because that's what the first Christians did. Does God really care? Probably not. But that's what we want to do.
nrolett 2 years ago
My husband's family is in the church of Christ. Their last preacher did teach that they are the only ones going to heaven. They fired him so now the one they have supposidly does not teach that. I think it's okay not to have music accompanyment, but it's much prettier with it. I think God is pleased to hear beautiful and spiritual music. I don't think he'd curse a church that had a piano. But my grandparent's church rocks out with electric guitars. Whoah nelly!
jennysjuice 2 years ago
Only those who accepted Christ's atonement on the cross will enter the kingdom of heaven. God gave everyone single one of us that chance. To reject this free gift (salvation by grace and grace alone through faith) would be to choose eternal separation from God (hell). Everyone, please ask Jesus to be your personal Savior!
cp3814 2 years ago
I agree, we all have been given free will and the ability to decide who will will follow. Once we have accepted Jesus by hearing His word and realizing that Jesus is Lord, we must follow the biblical outline by repenting of our sins(Acts 2:38), being baptized (Rom 6:3-4). Our job doesn't end there, we are called to live faithfully and though we sin daily, we draw closer to God through a life of continual repentance through grace, confession to others, and remaining steadfastly in his word.
COCYBF 2 years ago
One other thing. How do you know which church fits the biblical church? They all claim the same thing?
I like how the church of Christ believes in faith and works, baptism for remission of sins, missionary work and repentance. Our churches have several things in common. I do wish my inlaws would stop presenting me with anti mormon videos and literature. I understand why they do, because they don't know any better. Their preacher hands that stuff out. He gets it from living hope ministries.
jennysjuice 3 years ago
I believe in speaking in tongues, although I have never experienced that. I have read many stories about it. It is not something someone or just anyone can do, it is a gift. I don't understand it fully, but a person has to be really spiritual and worthy to receive such a gift. Also, the person must be blessed with the gift of translation to know what has been said. I think it's pretty awesome.
jennysjuice 3 years ago
Oops, I meant gift of interpretation. 1 Cor 14:13 says "Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret".
14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
jennysjuice 3 years ago

LOL!
monmichka77 3 years ago
Maybe I'm jumping in on all of this late. I went to a "black" COC in Dallas. In Houston, I attend a "white" COC. There are slight differences in doctrine. Like one time I went after not having been in a while and thought I would fall out of my chair when I saw a lady go up and lead the prayer and then another one leading the song. LOL! Not that I think it's wrong personally, but never thought I would see that in the church of Christ and wasn't expecting it, frankly.

We need to pray before allowing ourselves to be used to further divide and devour one another by the words we speak. We absolutely reflect Jesus our Lord in ALL that we say and do, if we are truly HIS. May God give us more grace and wisdom.

Here, the WHITE churches of Christ BUILT the colored churches of Christ, atleast until they were self-sustaining, and there is no division among us. They attend our meetings; we support their massive benevolence programs in the Negro sections of town. There are and have been great gospel preachers of both races.

I am a black Teacher in the church and I say this comment is ridiculous.

Why aren't women allowed to participate in worship service? Thanks.

I Cor 14:33-35 (NIV):

We can all learn from one another.

yes , we all know where you are coming from ...thank you very much my dear...

Where's that? Thanks.

the men don't think so. they refuse to let a woman read scripture. with these men it makes them feel in control to have the women the way they are. it feeds their egos. some women want to do more, but they're not going to let them. i have gift of discernment and there is a lot of skeletons in the closet of these people and one day that closet is going to explode

Thanks for the messages. Are you or have you ever been affiliated with this denomination? If so, I would love to talk with you more about it. You are welcome to send me a personal message.
Thanks,

The Lord's Church, established on the day of Pentecost accepts any race, for this is what God intended, a la Church of Christ.

i was raised in church of Christ...keep in mind that only the rich had instruments... and were not introduce into the church's till about 600 AD... in the new testament they burned incense.... and killed sacrifices.... although i dont think it's a sin to use instruments, i do think its not necessary... instruments are almost a crutch..ex: can we add grape jelly to the communion table?...after all it makes the bread/crackers tastier.. and it is made from the fruit of the vine..no i don't think so
thogbrunca 3 years ago

So if we go on that reasoning, if we wanted to get more members under the roof...
We could add poker tables, allow recorded football games to be watched during service...
The list could go on and on, after all if it doesn't outright state it as not being banned...
