The protesters were far north of the convention hall and wanted to march to the hall. The cops had them blocked at a main bridge leading south. There were about 800 protesters in the mid afternoon facing off against cops on foot, on horses, on bikes and in those little armored vehicles. It was a stalemate with protesters trying to march around the area and cops blocking.

For my part, I got too far behind the lead of the march so I cut through a back alley about a block shy of it, hoping to catch up when they headed south again. Those who broke from the main body and ran were taken down as cops caught them, accused of rioting, guilty or not
