  • Notice some comments on here about PVL album, i think it was their worst album, the production is rubbish and the album versions of "EYF"and "SMILE" are a million miles away from The Falls UTTERLY MESMERISING MARCH 1983 PEEL SESSION sessions, i remember ptaping that whole jp show back then and falling off my chair in disbelief at how good those tracks were and still are.

  • Ah, now I get it:

    BRIX SAVED THE FALL

    Thanks, Brix !

    A fan

  • FUCK OFF MORLEY YOU PRETENTIOUS CUNT

  • Elvis is great but Bo Diddley is the real king

  • Morley again "the fall has to have a elizabeth taylor richard burton element....a weird sexual element....a soap element". They gave too much of the doc to this prat spouting verbal diarorea.

  • The Fall at 02 Academy Liverpool 19th of May. Supported by The Temps.

  • the Paul and Linda McCartney comparison,is an insult to the work Mark and Brix did.

  • When a southerner says the fall its sounds like they're saying the fool...

  • @madcapoperator Ha I agree Mate, they're not saying it properly really, ever.

  • Bo Diddley rules.

  • Who's the guy in the pub who looks a bit like Vinny Reily?

  • Grant Showbiz (whines minute detail...)

record producer for The Fall amongst others and friend of Mark E.

  • Thanks.

  • paul morley = pretentious tosser

  • yeah ano, every doc a watch he's always in it

  • I saw Brix the other night. She was having a clothes competition with a Chinese fella.

  • The Fall are the only band where a woman getting involved was a brillaint thing.

  • It didn't do the Raincoats or Kleenex any harm!

But all-male Fall lineups have tended to be a bit dull. Too much testosterone.

  • Would someone please tell me what the hell does MES says on 2:19?

  • "Well, he wanted to do the hits every night, you know [mumbles] Thats not the group, you know."

  • Thanks!

  • If you google "wonderful frightening world mark e smith transcript" (without the quotation marks) you'll get the full transcript.

  • I prefer the American Fall ... aka Pavement

Coming from Britain i don't need reminding how depressing things are

  • There can never be another band like The Fall. There just can't be.

  • Then dont listen to em or watch documentarys on them then, fucks sake. Pavement, HA! ripoff merchants

  • I personally don't hear the similarities other than singing styles. Each are eclectic and idiosyncratic, but I never heard how Pavement blatantly ripped The Fall off. Pavement were WAY more melodic than The Fall, and were more of a melange of different influences and styles than just a carbon copy of The Fall, I always thought. But maybe I'm not listening to songs by The Fall that would invite an obvious comparison. Are there any you would recommend listening to?

  • Mark E. Smith likes Bo Diddley. So did Syd Barrett. That's cool.

  • And Bo Diddley liked what he saw of Mark E. Smith- that's also very cool.

  • Beautiful, beautiful Brix

  • aaahhh where is my brix smith??? mark must have some pullimng power, eleni poulou aint half bad either.

  • Smith is comical and clever and entertaining and charismatic but so what? So are loads of people. I love some Fall stuff but some of it's crap. Powder Keg is really good but Eat Yerself fitter is utter shite.

  • I'm not going to be shallow and mark this comment down, but 'Eat Y'self Fitter' and the whole of 'Perverted By Language' is superb stuff - not sure where you're coming from. Granted, I was a latecomer, and didn't get into The Fall until I was about 15/16 *i.e 1994 ish* but listening back, PVL was a superb album, only outclassed by a few of their almost 30 studio albums. I'm impressed with Stephen Hanley in these interviews... I thought there might be some bitterness.

  • Mark E Smith is talented, yes. I saw the band in the late 80's and they were brilliant. But c'mon, the man is an alcoholic. I love him, but that eccentric behavior is more about alcoholic behavior.

  • He might like his booze, But as i read this week booze is safer than tape water as thats been through 5 peoples kidneys before it reaches yours

  • Whoops I do apologize, Craig Scanlon was who I thought Marc Riley...was... :/

  • Who the fuck is that guy who is literally taking the piss out of Marc Riley!?

The longest serving member beside Mark E. himself, cut him a bit of fucking slack Mr ZZ Top lookalike!

  • steve hanley was in the band longer than scanlon

  • Riley was only in for four years, less than Steve, Craig, Karl, Brix, Ben, Julia or Eleni! And as a DJ he talked over a Cravats session track unaired for 20 years, which makes him an evil enemy of music.

  • true that, but he was on the best albums, wasnt he?

  • Whats a computAAaAaA

  • What a band and what a legend Mark E Smith is.

Thanks for putting it on the site.

Andy Kershaw looks about 10 on this video.

  • The Elizabeth Taylor and Burton element. Learn something new bout the Fall everyday.

  • The Brix era is arguably their best.

  • i agree

  • Long live the fall

  • Really appreciate that this video was posted, cheers

  • jools holland shitting himself. ha ha

  • RIP John Peel
