This is good to know. My machine has just packed in and its the newer Ultima WT741 (grey with LEDS). It started making a loud rubbing sound and then stopped spinning all together. I took the lid off to find the rubber thing tangled at the rear of the machine. Is this easy to fix?
Yes it was the belt that was attached to the motor. It had completely come off and was a bit worn. I need some advice, should I bother repairing it or should I get a new machine? I ask this because the comments about bearings. How do I know if the bearings have gone? thanks
@NWOConspiracyGroup: when the motor bearings have gone, or are going, the motor is alot louder than normal. and can seize up, in some cases. drum bearings, are easy to tell. if you spin the drum, with the belt off. and the drum makes noise, or slows down quickly, then the drum bearings have gone. if drum bearings have gone in a hotpoint. then it's not worth the repare. as the whole drum and outer plastic tub has to be replaced
you are right. there are rough edges where bit's have chipped off this block. the much hevier iron cradle, means that it reduces counter balance. in other words if there are 2 identical distributed loads. the one in the miele has less side to side action. the hevier iron cradle also means it weighs the miele down and therefore reduce it from moveing position when it is unbalanced.
also since you got your hotpoint from a discount store it may have been dodgey as crushu2ds and other ultima owners seem to have better ones as they got theres from commet or any shop.lol.
to be honest this thing is messed up because of you over loading it!dude you really mess this washer up.now balancing crap and stuff is not your fault but the bearings and stuff is your fault!
The belt normally doesn't cover the full with of the pulley. No belt does!
You dont need to replace it, since there are no frayed ends on the sides.
It's normal for the machine to swing left and right during an unbalance. the machine doesn't usually swing back and forth, unless the unbalance is really bad.
I'd precautionally change the shock absorbers. Also, make sure that the belt is as far back as possible. Apart from that, nothing needs to be done!
well the shocks deffinatly need doing. many others do say that the bearings are slightly worn. the motor is fine. but if your saying that my bearings are fine. why is mine so much damm louder than others with the same motor.
Replacing shock absorbers is an easy job.. You can just put the machine on a side and then, you can easily undo the bolts, put in 2 new ones, and you're done :D
Well, if I can hear it well, it's just the other way around: the drum bearrings seam okay to me, but the motor bearrings sound crappy.
Can you please undo the belt and then make a vid where you manually give the drum a spin (without belt)? That will give me a better indication.

@NWOConspiracyGroup : if your talking about the rubber thingy as in being the belt that the motor drives, then yes it is easy to fix.

Miele doesn't use the concrete thing as it cracks. They use a strong iron cradle. The reason it can spin hardly balancing yet whisper quiet. :-)

a miele weighs 90KG
this hotpoint only weighs 60KG

actually mine has lasted longer without problem's
crushu2D's - display fell through after 10month's
aitcho86's - suspension broak just after 1 year
mine - suspension break's just after 2 years
smoker's - is still working and 3years old
personally only smoker's is the only one well built
and i found out that the bottom concreat weight is missing from this machine
whichwasher2007 3 years ago
yes but you are not helping it by doing these over loaded washes and stuff!
crazyspeedy62 3 years ago
also you use handwash wool for like 6 or 7 kg washes!that program is only for like
2-3 kg loads!reasson is because the machine is not able to handle a 6-7 kg load with water in it at 80 rpm! so that is also not doing it any good!

no bearings and/or motor have been this loud from day 1 not my fault , the suspension is my fault.

The belt has not been fitted properly-it should not be touching the outer walls as it causes a thinning of the belt.
So if a powercut happens on the spin then it starts the spin again? Mine does aswell!
