Yes I have one of these in my homebuilt, 450hrs havent touched it yet. Excellent performance and draws crowds where ever I go. The factory support is good and parts are cheap compared to most others. Most servicable items are off the shelf Automotive filters, plugs, ignition etc. I read that there are now over 500 sold in the USA.
How much of a hole in your wallet did that engine put in your pocket? I've always wondered how much they cost and haven't seen any reliable price from Rotec.
Does anyone know of a mechanical reason to start this engine without the electric starter? Or were the owners just trying to give the crowd a "realistic" WWI engine start?
Yes they were just demonstrating how easy it was to start by hand. It has electronic ignition on the LHS and a magneto on the RHS. Besides I think the hand propping makes for good theater, dont you think?
Would you fly far from home with that engine? Is it reliable for bush operations on floats?
