  • I got back lead for first few months by a very very good dancer. I got to aerials and whatnot, but I have a problem. I've never had a solid frame. Any advice?

  • It looks pretty kool :]

  • I don't know what dance this is, but it isn't east coast swing. The foot work in east coast swing is different.

  • @golongusa It's East Coast Swing, but with single steps, instead of triple steps. Any "swing dance" with a 6-count basic is a form of East Coast.

  • This dance is silly and corny. If you really want to swing dance with real

spins and fun moves, then learn Ceroc, also called Modern Jive ( no not

the ballroom jive). Ceroc/Modern Jive eliminates footwork and is very

popular in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

  • @tumsabai1 I'll stick with Lindy Hop, but that's because I like traditional swing music.

  • The girl in the green shirt is painful to watch. If she back-leads any more her and her partners should just change positions.

  • Not east coast swing. This was known as western swing. Last time I saw it my privates from Chicago were using it till I gave them the correct 6-ct swing steps. No doubt it is still used in that area. Real close to the Texas 2-step I teach when I can. Again the basic step hinders the ladies turns much as the triples do in east coast. Sorry Ballroom we don't all love your east coast swing

  • @wildhog1777 It's East Coast Swing, but with single steps, instead of triple steps. Any "swing dance" with a 6-count basic is a form of East Coast. Triple steps, help turns, not hinder it.

Besides, it's just a stepping stone to real swing dancing: Lindy Hop.

  • This looks like fun!

  • east caost is too easy west coast swing is much more difficult depending on how far you get or wabnt to achieve for competiton.

  • well, too be fair, "east coast" is generally considered to be a simplified version of Lindy hop, its basically lindy hop for beginners. and Lindy it every bit as challenging to master, as WCS is

  • @thesingersofyore it's still fun though

  • im really trying to learn how to dance this but its kinda of difficult for me! Any feel free to give me some tips! thanks =)

  • omg i am taking a swing dance class omg after watching this makes me more nervous .i totally forgot about the whole partner thing i knew but forgot i hope i don't have to dance with that 1 dork that fallows me around Ur i wish i could dance with my friends i'm not lesbian or anything its kinda a long story .

  • well you only have a 500 character count...

  • yeah.....true

  • :P

if you have to dance with that dork you might change his life forever, he'll always remember it

and guys arn't that bad to dance with... you just have to find one who isn't a prick

  • This video shows the follower turning 360 degrees which is not what I was taught. A swing turn is more of a switch-places action with one partner turning and the other partner rotating to reduce the distance which the turning partner must spin.

  • Oh yes, because there are like rules that you *must* follow.

  • It is not so much that there are rules that you MUST follow, but the 360 degree action of the turn as demonstrated results in the lead imposing an uncomfortable spin on the follow. The basic inside turn works best when the follow moves forward toward the lead due to the momentum she is given, but the maintenance of her frame results in a turning action while the lead moves and "switches places" in order to compensate for the traveling of the follow.

  • @dwightroark WHAT?????

  • What I said makes sense. You have a more specific question?

  • This was a little different than what I learned last month. I think we did a rock step, then 4 to the left, 4 to the right, rockstep. Then the leader spun the follower the first time and my right hand met with her right hand, then we rockstepped, 4 left, 4 right, spun her again. This time my right hand took her left hand. But this was still a nice refresher course for me.

  • is it really that hard???

  • This is really funny because swing is so easy but a lot of these people are having trouble. Im a lot younger than all of them but im great at swing and I've only taken a class for a week at camp.

  • Austin stop using my youtube account to make jerk comments -.-

  • split personality much?

  • thats what im doing in school =]

  • Same here! I'm a total noob but its great fun.

  • haha same! footwork is simple but still kinda tricky for me but its so much funn!!

  • wow i learned some steps. cool, thanks.

  • This was a very nice video for beginners, I learned a new move.

  • I'm going to a swing dance lesson on Sunday for the first time - I'm absolutely terrified! I've got no problem with rhythm - just have absolutely no co-ordination. Hell, I've seen cows who are better movers than me! Ha ha!

  • i bet ur better than u give urself credit for... i know lots of people like that... or u just need practice..

  • we do that at sussex academy but ours is about 50 couples with about 100 students. we do a different step of boys going 1,2,back step, front step and we do it in closed position almost all of the time. i didnt know it was done like this =)

  • the count is the same its just in half time. (ie the your 1, is their one two. your 2 is ther 3 4, and your back step is their 5 6, same idea just differnt numbers.)

and it can be done in closed or open, or both, in that you can simply release the girls back and come down to her hand for open. (the basic looks better closed, but the open allows many differnt moves)

  • Very true, but the better you get the more you can do in a closed position. Then again there's always the choice of dropping down to open just before executing the move. If you do it right it looks to be part of a combination move as opposed to a lead in.

  • or we could all just learn lindy, which is constantly changing and moving from open to closed, and requires a much stronger connection with your partner (sorry im a lindy kid, but i started with swing, as most do)

  • lol this looks like my swing dance class, only with like 3 couples....

  • grl in green shrit know wat shes doing
