They judged him based on first impression, not real evidence. Sometimes first impression is correct, but many, many times it's absolutely wrong. And if you sentence someone based on that you will end upp with a whole lot of people being innocent. Keep emotions and your own beliefs out of the courtroom.

We all need to do absolutely everything possible to avoid an innocent being executed. In most states the mandatory appeals process plus that it takes 12-20 years post conviction to execute plus the public scrutiny is a good start but not enough
