  • Ignore ALL the grammar!

  • Actually, You DON´T have to be 18 :) You can go to afs.com and there you have to be UNDER 18. Im from Iceland and I'm 15, going 16 this year and I'm planning on going to Japan as an exchange student (living with a host family for 1 year) and I just have to wait to get approval from AFS in Japan.. If youre under 18 but over 14 you sure can go :D

  • What types of shops are foreigners not allowed in? Are there signs outside or something to indicate that? Just wondering. :)

  • I really want to go to Japan and study there (I still have 2 years to go before I go to university). But I have an allergie. I can't eat gluten (wheat). Do they know what that is in Japan? Can you easy find food?

I would love to be somthing like a teacher in Japan like you are now but the only language I know good is Dutch. My English grammar isn't very good. :(

  • Wow, the entire first minute just made this entire video for me. Grammar, spelling and punctuation for the win! Now to watch the rest of it... lol

  • Not allowed in certain shops?! What is this bullshit I hear?

  • triple like!

  • I just wanted to say THANK YOU really for posting all these videos.

I'm going to Kobe next week to study and you answered alot of my questions!

I hope you're all well and keep being awesome! ^^

  • oh my gosh, your hair looks so pretty in this video!!! *o* =^w^=

  • Annie!!! Lions youth exchange is a great international program where teens aging from 16-21 can visit another country! You can stay with host families without studying abroad :)

....initially i was supposed to go to japan but the tsunami and radiation cancelled my trip -____- ....but i did go to Italy! My host families were great too:))

    <3 your videos!

  • Whats it like living with a host family? How did they treat you?

  • @PeircedinBlood I have a video on living with a host family where I talk about it in detail, it was a really good experience and they treated me very nicely.

  • hello ! i just discovered your videos today because i'm always dreaming about being a exchange student in any country but specially japan so I love to watch this videos where people like you share their experiences ! well i'm mexican and i have some troubles understanding what you say sometimes! what is your major again ?? is major the same that a univesity career ?

and also do you think I could work as a spanish teacher in japan ? or is that they're not interested in learning spanish ?

  • @SmallHarryaWatLang2 My major is international studies, and yes, that's what you study at university. There are definitely jobs for Spanish teachers in Japan! English is the most popular thing to teach (for foreigners), but there are many people there who want to learn other foreign languages too! : )

  • I'm a fast reader and typer, but I had to pause to read that.

  • @SevenSwordsUS Confidence, Shmonfidence, learning a language is the act of BUILDING confidence. :D

  • @brotherannie Exactly! :D

  • btw love the new hairstyle you look pretty :D

  • @annie i know this isn't related to anything in this video but what are your thoughts and reaction's to amy winehouse's death? D:

  • @sims2fan161 I liked her music a lot, the music world lost a beautiful voice.

  • @SevenSwordsUS Who cares? We have the highest salaries in the world. The average Norwegian have the most money in the world even after the tax is payed. And when it's payed, hospitals, school etc is free.

  • @sjureman Man, I'm living in the wrong country! XD

  • @brotherannie Lol. Not today. Yesterday we were struck by a massive terrorist attack. You've probably seen it in America. First, a bomb exploded at some government offices, and after that the guy who placed the bomb started shooting at a political summer camp. 7 are killed in Oslo, and 85 are killed at the summer camp. There are still over 50 people missing after the shooting.

  • @sjureman Not good!

  • @BabyduckDance10 SAME HERE!!! i was so happy when they woonnnn . My whole family was for USA just because Canada sucks !

  • thanks annie!

  • @SevenSwordsUS You mean taxes?

  • Hey Annie,

Thanks a lot for doing such great video's they're really helpful with your tips and suggestions to learning Japanese. I'm hoping to do an exchange at Kansai Gaidai halfway through 2012 but I need to lift my grades first!

    Thanks!

  • So when I say sort I mean that you do have to take the language courses as a part of the program, and some programs require that you have previous study, but you aren't really in a school setting.

  • I went on a program to Japan without studying abroad... sort of. Experiment in International Living sends high schoolers all over the world. Some of us go on community service projects, language and culture studies, or treks (or something like that). I went on the language and culture program for Japan. You basically spent time in the country and learn about it, spend a couple of weeks with a host family, and take language courses. It is only for a month, but it was amazing.

  • I actually really enjoy these videos! You adress some things that I wouldn't have even thought about! And they are like the furthest thing from boring too :) Btw your hair looked very nice ^^

  • @darkraven2116 Thanks!

  • hothothothothothot

  • @zackari Totally stolen from Tobuscus!

  • my country is not on the yfu list, why is that ? D: is it because my country doesn't have that program ?? :( and how come you went to study in Japan when you were 16 ?? Why did you want to and how did you persuade your parents to let you ??

  • @TheLollipopAhh I'd answer you, but I have no idea what country you're from. It's to be expected that they don't have the program for all countries, but I'm sure you could find something similar if you searched on your own. And I went to Japan when I was 16 because I wanted to go to Japan. And I persuaded my parents by threatening them with a gun until they let me go. (No for real though, they had no problem what so ever with me going there, they supported me 100%).

  • @brotherannie oh, I'm living in Ireland right now :3 How did you come up with all the money to live there though ??

  • @TheLollipopAhh I had to get a scholarship to cover half of the cost. I'm sure Ireland has something program similar to YFU, if you find one I'd love to hear about it and tell people.

  • @brotherannie how did you get a scholarship ?? did you have REALLY good grades ? and I hope but I doubt there would be any because I've always talked about studying in Japan with my friends in school and they've never heard of any programs either ><

  • @TheLollipopAhh I was a very average student back then, but I did have to write an essay. I don't remember the details though, it was a long time ago.

  • @brotherannie so does that mean getting a scholarship has no real connection with your grades ? :D

  • @TheLollipopAhh Isn't Ireland on the YFU list? That was weird. I'm aplying for the same programme as you. I'll turn 16 in August. But do you have Explorius, AFS, EF or Rotary in Ireland? That's the programmes I've applied to here in Norway.

  • @sjureman I really can't answer any questions about what programs Ireland has, I'm just an ignorant American so I'm not really best person to ask. : (

  • @sjureman I'm not sure but thanks for suggesting, I will look them up now :D

  • @sjureman @sjureman I just checked all of those programs. I think on EF, I found Ireland on the list but Japan wasn't. Then on Rotary, I found Ireland's site but there wasn't any information about international exchange program at all :( I've checked several different Ireland rotary sites too ><

  • @TheLollipopAhh That was weird... Is being an exchange student popular in Ireland? It is here in Norway, especcially when the government pays 90% of the costs :D

  • @sjureman I don't think so, I know a lot of students want to but when we bring that up to the teacher, they never come up with any exchange programs, all they say is they'll try to talk to the school about it O.o

  • @TheLollipopAhh Hmm... Don't you have school counsellors? I had to talk to mine, so that my year in Japan will be valid. If I hadn't sorted that out, I'd have to do that year again.

Here in Norway, 10% of all high school students are being exchange students. Most commonly the second year, so there are many programmes here. As the government is rich, the population is rich. Believe me, Norwegians poop money. Thank you oil! Therefore it's so popular.

  • @sjureman Ireland is dead poor now - - we owe the EU what, 8 billion euro ?? *sigh* I guess I'll just have to wait til I'm in university so I can do the exchange -x-

  • @sjureman 90%? Srsly? JEALOUS!

  • lulcat sez wut?

  • @stalker7d7 I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?

  • @brotherannie You haven't heard British slang. Geez... It's impossible to understand. First of all, no brit under 20 knows how to pronounce the "th"-sounds, so the say "I fink your mover looks nice". It's just so annoying to listen to. And they have those weird slang words, and they're used by old people too. They've had it forever.

  • @sjureman Oh baby, I've heard it. Lots of my friends were from the UK and Australia when I studied abroad, but I thought their English was way cooler than mine. They probably got sick of me trying to imitate them all the time.

  • @brotherannie Haha... That's annoying :D

  • NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!!!!!!

  • Cry havoc and unleash the Grammar Nazi's!

  • I really find that these videos are great, since I'm going to Japan for a year and need all the advice I can get, so please make more of them! :)

  • wut is you talking bout?? TROLOLOLOLOLZZZ

  • I hate when people type like they're five years old. I wouldn't answer those e-mails either. So thank you for adressing that :P. Thanks for all the information; your videos are always so fun and informative. Thanks again!

(P.S., don't know if you're a soccer fan, but Japan won over the U.S. in the Finals! Everyone in my family turned and said "Hope you're happy!" at the end of the game. I'm the Japanese nerd of the bunch, I suppose!)

  • Great Video! I'm actually going to Japan in September for 3 weeks so Ive been trying to study everyday, Vocabulary is a killer. I really enjoy watching your videos, you have been a great help.

    peace...
