He will only move if his life is in danger, someone trespass the ground or if he witness a crime in progress. They are not purely ceremonial and any guns they carry is loaded.
these soldiers arnt just brave men but gentlemen, i remember when my sister when she was like 4 fell over right infront of one and hurt herself, the guard was soon to her aid making sure she was ok
@nigel94rich This is at Horse Guards, the old entrance to Whitehall and through to Horse Guards Parade, where Trooping the Colour takes place. The soldier on duty is from The Life Guards, the senior regiment of the British Army and part of the Household Cavalry.
Just once, I would love to see one of these guards haul off and beat the shit out of one of these annoying tourists! Why are tourists so disespectful to these men? Hey, why dont you try pulling that shit at Arlington and see how far you get???
:| pisses me off the way people/immigrants take the piss out of these men that have served our country and faught for our freedom :( hahaha....the way people forget that the royal guards have a loaded weapon and a very sharp bayonet attached to the end and are trained to kill! xxxxRIP to all fallen service men and women.
The reason he moves at the end is to tell the man approaching to 'stand clear of the arches', as that is where he is guarding and the public aren't allowed.
The soldiers seen guarding in this video are Troopers, not 'Guards', as the latter would refer to them being in the Foot Guards, which they are not.
The men who join the Household Cavalry, be it the Life Guards or the Blues & Royals, are ordinary professional career soldiers and are not hand picked at all.
They are trained to crew FV107 Scimitars as formation reconnaissance during combat operations.
@LolFishFail know what you are talking about before you post....they are not hand picked.....they are not ex-special forces. The are members of the Household Cavalry which is an operational recon unit in combat. they deploy to afghanistan on rotation between doing guard duties like this.
@LolFishFail I do know what i am talking about. I was referring to your comment to @dmc081 "The Guards are all hand picked ex-British special forces, so ya. It does need some training." of course Special Forces are hand picked but none of these guards are special forces or ex-special forces. Because These guys are not ex-special forces they are not hand picked.
@LolFishFail i'm not being a dick about it. i was just pointing out that these gus are not secial forces or ex-special forces. they are an operational unit of the British Army. anyone can join this regiment. they don't hand pick you. i have friends and relative who have served with and alongside these regements.
@Musicfan105265 But when I meet them over the internet, when I see them on YouTube, when I see them on British news channels like the BBC - a "few" is not the right considering most are just..........
that the guard was moving at the end happened to me too, he said "step back the arches" because behind him are the stables of theier horses :D it was kind of funny :D
The stables have nothing to do with the fact the Life Guard asked you to step away. More specifically, The Guardroom is directly to the right of the arches!
The guard in the end said to the guy:
- If you mfer take ONE more step towards that door i will shop your head of with this sword before you even know what happen!

@emptyangel
Mounted guard duties rotate between the two regiments and with the Royal Horse Artillery in the summer.
It even rotates within the regiment so that every trooper performs public and guard duties equally, none of the men are hand-picked.
The same applies for the Foot Guards when they guard Buckingham Palace, St. James Palace, the Tower of London and Windsor Castle.
