Its a bit much to presume the guy did this based on his religion or as an operative for some terrorist organization. What is far more likely, is that he was over stressed by his job as a psychiatrist to returning soldiers and snapped. As a veteran myself, I saw many people loose it while in the service unable to cope with the pressures of the job. There is no real way to tell what kind of stress will make someone loose it and from whence it will come.
However, snapping under stress won't save him from being executed by a Military Courts Martial if convicted of those charges. The only punishment for murder, under the UCMJ, is death.

Plus, multiple witnesses reported that he yelled "Alahu Akbar!" before he commenced shooting. Nevermind that though, the fact that people ASSUME that such is his rationale for his suicidal spree is something that can easily become a major falacy. Not everyone who calls God "Allah" is out to get us.

There is a difference between examining clear evidence to reach a logical conclusion and making a broad generalization about a group of people. I am doing the former.
