??? This is some no-swinging crap in the rhythm section... and it's Kenny Clarke, swinging, but the conga player and Bob playing electric... man, that is sad. Listen to Cannonball/'s band on another clip. It always swings... that conga player should be shot. Terrible and Cannonball is reaching but not feeling it.
@laughingtiger123 You are a sad and negative person, what you state is wrong and I hope you are feeling much better now. Keep your stupid remarks to yourself in the future. This just proves you have no knowledge of music.
what a group! these guys should have been playing across America every week-----they are the greatest players of the saxophone of that day and this-----dexter is so controlled an funky!
my sons godfather rolando briceno hosted canonball at his home in venezuela many years ago. the man was agreat artistand as such changed. You can hear the Avante garde influence in his playing. Dexter and Ammons are clearly recognized by their lines and style. Cannonball was wailing.
i disagree. why would you expect such a great musician to keep doing the same? this is not losing brilliance this is doing something different with, if you ask me, no less quality then his earlier work.
yeah man, how many times do you reckon he has played a blues? got to keep it interesting, its wicked to hear him like this, do you want to hear the same cannonball solo over and over again? Dont forget what 'jazz' is yo
ohh man..this is a really good video..never heard Cannonball play like this..i like him even more now..what a bad ass..but yeah i agree, mos def some cheeba up on that stage..haha
Cannonball passed in 1975. His playing sounds so liberated here. And, to think he's doing all that with a cigarette in his fingers. You don't see that so much any more. Guys take care of themselves a lot better now.
The way these guys played needs to be reinvestigated. So many young players have no idea of the wealth of information they really offer.
Oooooweeeee, Ammons is SMACKED BACK!!!, A snapshot for the ages with Long Tall Dexter, Cannonball and Gene Ammons. I think Cannonball passed not too long after this. Thanx for posting
Nothing like a good ol' 240p clip.

What a shame - Jug (Gene Ammons) would be dead a year after this recording, and Cannonball two years later. Both should've been around a lot longer.

Cannonball had already lost brilliance in this video, unfortunately.

The album is Gene Ammons and Friends "Live at Montreux '73". They also tear through Yardbird Suite... great late Cannonball and Ammons.
