I have not been to Vladivostok in many years. They had their share of problems in the 90s, but as far as know the situation has drastically changed FOR THE BETTER now. The city is indeed thriving, mainly as a gateway for trade with Japan and China -- the volume of that two-way trade is GENOURMOUS, most of the city is PROFITABLY involved with imports-exports, shipping, customs, etc.

i lived in Russia 11 years and i had to face all this shit while i was a kid no power no water no heat i live in Canada now when i came this was heaven i can actually sit in my apartment and use a computer warm and clean but no matter what i still love Russia i visit the country every couple of years just to go and do shit i can't do in Canada shoot guns at night blow up fireworks drive with no insurance and no seat belt the real freedom is in Russia just not the positive one best to Russia

In Saint Petersburg it's no were this bad, but in Leningrad(Saint Petersburg in the USSR) it was one of the best places I have ever lived in my life. Vladivostock has all the ingredients to be a really cool city - for a start it has one of the most beautiful natural settings of any city anywhere; the cosmopolitan atmosphere (like many big ports) and generally the population is well- educated, entreprenurial and creative. Such a shame.

I have not been to Vladivostok in many years. They had their share of problems in the 90s, but as far as know the situation has drastically changed FOR THE BETTER now. The city is indeed thriving, mainly as a gateway for trade with Japan and China -- the volume of that two-way trade is GENOURMOUS, most of the city is PROFITABLY involved with imports-exports, shipping, customs, etc.
Curious: why would one post this 10-year-old report in 2008?
