I was not a Bush fan but just how did he steal the 2000 election? Please explain this to me.
The controversy surrounding the 2000 election had more to do Al Gore's sour grapes over the fact he lost. If your complaint is about the electoral college system vs a popular election then go back and do your research on why we do things that way.
While you are at it, research the 1960 election before you show your ignorance any further.
Kennedy was the last president whose photograph families had hanging on their kitchen walls while he was in office. He was the last of the "Hero" presidents...he was flawed, to be sure, both personally and as a president, but want cannot be denied is his poise, his presence, and his ability to inspire a nation.
About three years ago they were running an ad for an upcoming TV special focusing on Kennedy and his presidency and they showed one fellow close to him back then saying that Kennedy "wanted us in Vietnam to prove to the world how powerful we were." I couldn't believe it! If THAT really was the reason then I have to wonder if his soul isn't in h*ll on account of being responsible for so much pain and suffering! Those B-52 vids showing streams of bombs dropping on innocent people comes to mind!:-(
@guyNbluejeans Troop levels rose under Kennedy to intimidate the Soviets and to slow the advance of communism in SE Asia. American casualties were well within double digits at the time of his death. Does that make him responsible for how Lyndon Johnson chose to pursue that war. You can decide that, just like you can decide who goes to Hell or how Hell works or with the premise of Hell itself.
@Nominay I don't see how your comments relate to anything I said. Bottom-line is it was Kennedy that got us in there by being the guy that initially put 16,000 troops there ... , while Eisenhower limited himself to only putting "advisors" there (and with no Americans being killed).
@Nominay It was an emotional based comment due to a whole lot of needless suffering brought about by a fool for a president. Besides, why would I want to "troll" to have gomers like you wasting my time? (THAT's a rhetorical question.)
@guyNbluejeans Anyone who says JFK was a fool of a President ought to look into the mirror. It's not a good person who says something like that. You don't debate your low life opinion on substance, just ad-hominin comments. And I don't know what a gomer is.
People talk about Kennedy buying his way into office, I have watched several clips this evening, including a very interesting interview called Kenndy after two years. President Kennedy comes across as a very intelligent man, knowledgeable about the various branches of government and how the whole system works, great man for quoting historical figures and past presidents, good sense of humour, sharp mind and wonderful smile, clearly a very charismatic and capable individual who grew into the post
First time I have seen this but heard a lot about it over the years, I have seen many presidential debates and from this clip alone, Kennedy comes across as very presidential, confident, knows his brief. Nixon for a vice-president looked more insecure and yes, distracted by his knee problem/infection, if I had been around back then Kennedy would have got my vote. Would like to this all of this debate and the other ones, very interesting.
Addison's was Kennedy's lifelong affliction..mainly..incorrectly..treated in JFK by cortico-steroids....
He has said throughout his life that having a tan was one luxury he loved because it made him feel as if he looked healthy..and feeling that way..actually did make him feel better...(I have the same reaction actually...)...so JFK had the tan on purpose and it was obtained through a nice bit of sunshine. Not Addison's or its treatment.
So funny listening to this debate and then seein a modern day debate full of hoots and hollers and stupid ppl applauding for no good reason except then think it is the time for them to clap. Has society just become worse behaving and dumber or is our attention span now only capable of hearing in sound bites?
Yeah but how often do we see ppl applauding anyway? In our stupefied world of Kardashians and Jersey Shore our douchey society is quick on the draw to whip out a fist pump every chance they get.
I'm attempting to answer your question: It is the idiocracy in action, which is actually better illustrated in the movie under the same title (Idiocracy).
It's so funny that even a guy as confident and charismatic as Jack had to be reminded to stand up on the podium, rather than speaking from his seat. It really captures how this was the first televised debate ever, like the candidates weren't even prepared to be standing up. It was all so new to everyone. And that only increased the great odds already stacked against Nixon. His poor performance wasn't solely his fault.
@Nic1700 Kennedy was raised a rich boy yet became a true war hero lt (THE hero of PT109) and man of honor to our Country. He was of course infuenced in the family way of his background, taking after his mothers side but his fathers the Ambassador in most other ways. Kenendy was a far more qualified President as was Reagan and Clinton in more recent years.
Communism was very influential and a concern .. it certainly was in the minds of the the presidential candidates at the debate to even use as a motivational catalyst for Americas outlook towards their own freedom and progress. What laid ahead in the continuing years were a series of events driven from strong opposing ideologies which would inevitably set the stage for more colossal conflicts.
JFK grilled him. Shame his brother didn't get the chance to do the same in the 1968 election

JFK didn't have much competition in Nixon really, far better man than Nixon could ever have been.

Both of them were crooks. Nixon cheated his way to the office, JFK bought his way into the office.
In terms to the debates, Nixon slaughtered JFK in the debates.
AGeekWithAShotgun 1 month ago
@AGeekWithAShotgun JFK may of bought his way to the office but its not how he got there its what he did when he got there.
Nixon cheated his country, his people and the people who supported and voted for him.

"but its not how he got there its what he did when he got there."
The ends do not justify the means. Cut it with the pragmatic bullshit crap.
"Nixon cheated his country, his people and the people who supported and voted for him"
Nixon was an asshole. Founded the EPA, started the war on drugs, he was disgusting.
But do you know what also was disgusting? JFK starting the Vietnam War.

better man?
You call war-mongering a la Vietnam being a "good" man?
Holy shit

It's so upsetting how JFK had so much to offer and thought about the early years (70's) compare to Nixon that resigned in 1974.

Radio audience - Nixon won. Television audience - Kennedy won. And thus the beginning of modern political politics.
