I would support my child in anything they wanted to do as long as it wasn't illegal or dangerous. However, If my child wanted to be an artist I would steer them towards filmmaking because its the most popular and technologically advance medium in the world. Which is another way of saying that it pays the best.
My dad is the exact same way. He and my mom are trying to force me into medical school and are totally against my ambition of going into the film industry and becoming a screenwriter. That is the one thing I can see myself doing, and the one way I can enjoy life and believe that I have truly accomplished my calling. I'd say that writing is the only thing I'm good at, and to me it would be way more enjoyable than being a doctor, even if I didn't get filthy rich doing it.
It's just that making it in this industry is really tough, there are a lot of heartbreaks and sharks in the business, they just want the best for you, but like Cameron said it can used as inspiration.
I am at that point right now James. I am already in Chemistry and trying to shoot my film and living in the lunch box because My stupid dad won't let me stay home.
wow. my dad is kinda lke that. he didn't want me to make movies when i siad thats what i wanted to do in middle school. he said, become a technician or engineer. work on computers and technology cuz those kinda jobs would be available in the future.
BUt still nonetheless i know this is what i want. and from the support i got from my teachers, i know i am capable of doing what James Cameron does best.
@codename617 and obviously you've failed, because nobody knows who you are. and James Cameron wouldn't waste his time on youtube commenting on how he wants to be a filmmaker.
@peteagassi that was rude and unnecessary! You missed the point. Codename617 was trying to say how he can relate to James Cameron and that he is "capable of doing what James Cameron does best" which is directing.
@peteagassi im 21 and work at cvs buddy. i got my whole life to prove not just my dad but also to prove u wrong. but i dont really care much for the latter cuz i dont kno u. n i kno this aint cameron. im not a gulable moronic fan.
@peteagassi youre a fucking asshole you know that? youre like one of those people that are sour about their life because the failed at their dream so they going on youtube and shit to try to make themselves feel better by saying shit to others and making others feel hopeless
no wonder he's an angry motherfucker when filming.

this is exactly what my dad is like... he is so un-supportive of my filmmaking and calls it worthless.
