to manually drain it you need to dump a gallon of water in the bowl..doing so will cause the toilet to drain. i don't know the principals behind it (i'm only 18) but i know that it works for me..
@PrinceWingDog To drain the toilet if the chain is broken. Open the lid to the tank. Stick your hand inside and pull the flapper and the toilet will flush. Fixing the chain is real easy. Just go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a flush chain and just install it from the flapper to the flush lever and you should be good to go. I did more complicated toilet repair and I was able to accomplish it.
