Does contortion actually make you shorter like it does in gymnastics?

@x3loveyuki I've read it is initially supposed to make you taller. Contortionists stretch out the space between their vertebrae (very gradually), essentially making themselves taller. But as contortionists retire, and most gymnasts as well, or even through lack of practice the spine can compact back down again, essentially making you shorter. Fascinating body facts!
