There was a stump that was 22 inches thick that had been cut down just by the thousands of bullets that were flying everywhere. The stump is now at the Smithsonian. It just shows how intense the battle was.
It was allot like WW1 fighting which allot of the battles fought later in the Civil War were like. At the Bloody angle, one of the bloodiest spots of the battle where the Confederate line came to a angle, horrible hand to hand fighting in muddy trenches filled with bodies mixed with blood, guts, and mud filled the angle. Many times canister was used in cannons and tore through Federal ranks attacking the trenches and tore through the masses of wounded and bodies laying in the fields.
Also the Battle of Spotsylvania was nothing like this reenactment, it was not fought on open ground and was in fact mostly focused arround the Confederate trenches as many Civil War battles trenches were used especially later in the war like at Spotsylvania. Spotsylvania was one of the bloodiest battles fought in the Civil War and one of the most chaotic. It was fought over 13 days and was mostly Union troops attacking Confederate earthworks and trenches taking heavy casualties in mud and rain.
This isn't the actual battlefield because they don't reenact on the actual battlefield and in description it says it was in Moorpark California which the actual battlefield is in Fredericksburg Virginia which I have been two a couple of times.
