I've had migraines all my adult life. hubby can see them in my face before I feel them. I've learned to listen & medicate before the pain. The coralate w/hormones, reading, poor eating, stress, etc. I know people who eat well, exercise, no cafine, & still have them. I use excedrin; works pretty well, not always. I eat, tho, unlike most people; seems to help me usually.
Hemiplegic migraine (with aura)...vision loss, numbness on one side, speech loss, confusion, brain just doesn't work correctly. All stroke symptoms. Then the pain comes and for me lasts for at least 2 days. It's caused from my inability to make a protein that causes proper nerve conduction in the brain. We are genetically screwed up and there is no cure as of yet :-(
I've lived with migraines for about 10 years, and there's NO greater pain. I used to get them about once a month, and now less frequently. In my case, they almost always occur in the same spot in the forehead, as opposed to "cluster" type headaches, which tends to affect the whole head. I also think there's a genetic component, as I remember as a child my father would get migraines usully at the end of a work week, and he suffered in silence, as back then the treatments were limited.
I'm in the midst of a migraine right now. The only thing that ever helps is caffeine and tylenol--and only if I take it right away. Sounds crazy but I usually take the tylenol with 5 engery boost or the small bottle version of Red Bul. Both have caffeine, and being liquid, works quicker.
@ReviewCam i suffer from extreme migraines and get them really of ten and i just found this over the counter med.. its called excedrin migraine. it has the same thing as tylenol but with caffeine and it really helps me you have to take it early in the migraine or it will take a while for its full effect but usually i take it and within 4-8 minutes its gone.... I seriously recommend it like 100%
@cowkid57 I use to take Excedrin and developed severe stomach problems from taking it. I also developed rebound headaches and found myself poping them almost everyday. I switched to advil and later Alive and had the same problem. I also found they were not as effective. I now take Imitrex and it works great.
@ReviewCam No, your comment is correct. The latest study regarding the many benefits of caffeine is eight ounces of coffee in conjunction with aceteminophen (Tylenol) seems to be a very effective temporary relief for the pain of migraines. Also effective is two or three ibuprofen with coffee, although if you have a history of ulcers, ibuprofen should be avoided, as it's very hard on the stomach. I've had such severe migraines in the past that necessitated a visit to the ER for treament.
@mariofan4523 Thankfully I've never had to to the ER but looking back at the times I wasn't able to abort a migraine right away and it lasted for days I probably should have. I do keep a cheap generic bottle of Tylenol and tea, coffee, or even a can of Pepsi with caffeine in it on hand in house.. I have also keep a couple of rapid release Tylenols and tiny bottle of 5-hour energy drink in my purse. Once the headach (head PAIN) starts I need to stop it before it gets full blown
I've had migraines since 1970. Studied, kept records. Know the triggers. Believe me, I've been given all meds available to treat. Only thing that works, and works well, are T4's. Medical studies state narcotics do in fact work best, however, they're subject to abuse. How many times the monster migraine has taken me down, throwing up, aura + 1/2 vision in the left eye, makes life miserable. My apt is like a cave it's so dark.
@708 thanks for comment but is bad advice. Its sort of like repeating bible mantras when christianity itself is a mind control cult to control the sheeple , the herd. Prayer waiting is not problem solving. I eat every 2 hours now all day and I walk 5 days a week. I have low blood sugar so most of my migraines caused more from not eating more. Every 2 hours. The 5 small meals a day is stupid. Eat every 2 hours strictly and it helped me.
To keep cravings for all sugars down. I boil for 45 min. Carrots, squash, onions and chinese cabbage. Pitch veggies when done and drink. Its called sweet veggie tea and keeps me balanced so cravings for sugar not so extreme. My migraines cannot be eliminated but can be controlled. I bought a book called Migraines for dummies. Is helping a lot
I've decided on a strict approach. I'm going back to macrobiotic cooking. Cooked mostly grains little bit beans seaweed and veggies. Fish 2x a week. 1 tablespoon liquid vitamin min combo. Co Q10 and 1 calcium mag zinc. Also 100% strict no alcohol no chocolate no sugar. Walk daily. Rest more. Stay home cooking reading when not at job. Charting in expensive journal motivates too.
My migraines are every day now. I'm crying every day. Can someone please tell me a cure besides excedrin. Excedrin has aspirin and that can start me internally bleeding from ulcer I have under control
I have read that some people have been to see an Ophthalmologist (eye doctor) and have been diagnosed with having high blood pressure behind the eyes leading to daily migraines. Its a long shot but it may help. Also get the knots and tension released from your neck and upperback by a sports therapist. This will help alot. This has been the biggest help to me.
I see you drink coffee from one of your videos, that's one very likely culprit.
Other than cutting out the caffeine, you probably will still need to see a primary care physician and have him help you begin a regimen of migraine preventative drugs like topirimate and coenzyme q10 to reduce the number of migraines down to about four-nine days of migraine per month if possible. When this is acheived, you treat these remaining migraines with four-nine triptan pills per month.
What i do everytime i get this headache is silly to hear but it really works... I make my room dark & in that darkness i just keep telling my brain that the nerve which is vibrating & creating headache is actually taken out from my head and is thrown in dustbin and so now i dont have that sensation anymore in my brain....i just keep saying this again & again.... until my brain believes it. It really works...u dont have to touch ur head or face... Just try this if u can... Hope it helps you...
@07080lmn i do something like that i lie down in a dark room totally quiet and i picture in my head the exact spot(s) that it is bothering me and i imagine needles in the spot and the just going into where the migraine is it sounds kind of silly but kind of works
I get ones with the visual side effects and vomitting and all that stuff. What they forget to tell you is some medications work by constricting arteries as a migraine is a rush of blood to the head. I can't take them anymore cos it constricted my coronary artery. Causing heart attack like symptoms. So fuck that.
Not getting the aura is great. It blinds you! But what about yoru heart? I don't wan to on it my whole life. I'd reather have an inhaler to STOP the arua (miagraine one)
dude you get the migraine with Aura......... so do I ... and it really sucks .... mine lasts for like 30-45 minutes and the headache kicks in after it passes.... sucks bad....
DHE 45, is not to bad its the only thing that i can use, due to the throat swelling with other meds

I've suffered from migraines my whole life and may offer some help people who suffer from them. It has helped me over the years.
Preventative:
-Don't take mid-day naps (yes this sounds silly)
-Don't over sleep
-Drink moderate amount of caffeine every day (1 coke)
-Try to de-stress (exercise works well) (Stress causes my migraines)
Treatments Ive taken:
"Butalbital" works well for some migraines ( usually ones caused by tension)
"Maxalt" seems to work well for really sharp migraine attacks
