Jim, I'm so glad you made this video -- Dewey never sounded better -- a really good album! Best wishes to you! ~Cat (p.s.: has John done a cover of this yet?)
Don't hate me but this is my favourite version of Caroline No. It was absolutely inspired of America to cover it, and I don't think Dewey has ever sounded better. Gorgeous stuff, and I love the Glen Campell-ish guitar solo. Thanks so much for posting! America is SO UNDERRATED!
@ps474paul I love this version too but nothing will ever top the original, where it closes out one of the greatest albums ever recorded..."Pet Sounds". Thank you so much for listening to this and America is not underrated with me. I love their music and have seen them in concert. They are and have always been Fantastic!
Love this song...I remember reading somewhere that when Brian was writing this song, it started out as "Carol I Know"....but when hearing it said out loud, it sounded like "Caroline, No"...and he liked that better. :) I do love the way America performs it...wonderful choice, Jim! Thanks for another gem.
@aplacetohideaway Hi Sharron! Thanks for the tidbit of info! Cool! I read that his wife Marilyn had just cut her hair and that is what prompted the composing of the song. Regardless of where the inspiration came from, I am just so glad he wrote it. I loved it from the first time I listened to "Pet Sounds". Thanks so much for watching and hoping you have a Great weekend, my Friend!
@182BEVERLEI So glad you liked it Chris! The original Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) version is posted on YT so you can listen to that one too, if you would like. I have it posted by The Hollyridge Strings with The Beach Boys version following. Thanks so much for listening to this one!
Hi Jim, It sounds more like a Beach Boys Song. America has great harmony too. I have heard this song before ... and it still sounds good!!! The setting sun beach scenes goes great with this song. Thanks for sharing. Pam
@KissMeQuk Hi Pam! Yes, The Beach Boys recorded it in 1966 on their "Pet Sound" album. It was the last song on the album and right at the end there is the sound of a freight train with a dog barking in the background, pretty cool stuff. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment!
@lettermen1 Thanks, Phil! Yes, I believe the original 45 RPM record had Brian Wilson's name on it and not The Beach Boys. He was already kind of going it on his own. Thanks so much for watching!
Terrific video, Jim! I wasn't familiar with America beyond Horse With No Name--I'll be looking for more of their music now! Thanks so much--I love starting the week with one of your fabulous videos!
@sorrowfulflower Hi Heather! Yes, they are a great group! I have seen them in concert a couple of times and they are fantastic. They have had many hits though non recently, maybe one of the songs from this new album will get some well deserved attention. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Very cool will share on my wall on facebook! Thanks!!Mahalo Nui! DenRA
