Hey Kenny, Sounds like a nice lathe you are making. I guess you will have the shaft balanced and threads. we don't want any vibrations which bug me like crazy. I'm in the process of building what I call a "pedestal bowl lathe". Basically a single square steel tube stood on end with a short bed coming off the front, the spindle sitting on top in 2 heavy duty pillow blocks and the motor sitting off the side of the tube a bit below the bed.
Powered by a 2hp 3-phase motor and VFD and will end up with around a 22"-24" swing. Should be a fun little rig!
I have a bad back and bending over my lathe hurts. I'm thinking this may help.
Splendid work! Dave, Dan is a really good woodturner. I like the piece that he made---the two pieces glued together. By the way, is it made off of a box elder wood?
@paloarteinc Hey Jake, Yes that's box elder. He came up with some cool shapes cutting some in half. He made some patterns first to determine how they would work out when cut in half.Cheers,Dave
